    basically admiting that they didn't RTFRN (RN == release notes). If you follow the release notes you are fine. They give you a few instructions and all the commands to use:

    personally I think its kinda gay that these package managers don't always just attempt to update themselves and their depends first. Or warn that new version of the package manager is available and ask to install it first. I think even up2date *gag* warns about that.

    university. Other than the pay, you really couldn't ask for a better place to work according to her. I'd have to agree based on what I've seen. Very liberal benefits policies that include her "life parter" (me) being able to get full health/dental/eyewear coverage if I need it. I can also go to school for free. She's currently working on her Masters for free.

    I hope she stays there, but it would be nice to see her getting paid better for what she brings to the table. It's going to take her another 3+ (she's been there for 2 already) years of 5% raises (if she can contingue to get them at that rate) to get back to the salary she was at before taking the job.

    cuz there is no way in hell they'll remember the crazy ass ones I generate and change every 6 months. i'd rather have someone have to physically breach security than beable to have their way with the systems should they break in via the internet somehow.

    blows any lcd i've ever seen out of the water. i can't understand how any hardcore gamer would ever use an LCD. I've got one at work and its fine for programming etc, but for gaming? no way.

    1 on apache 1.3.x for registry apps? we've got cgi's that run under mod_perl 1 on apache 1.3 and I'd been wondering if we would see any improved performance from switching to a 2.x setup with the registry cgis. (decreased memory usage would be considering a plus as well)

    its not going to stop people from using Blu-Ray for personal and business uses. Its 100% obvious that Blu-Ray is the better replacement for dvd-/+r/w technologies. You also know they will just come out with multi-format drives like they did for -/+

    most/all MAME emulated games that support a light gun also support a mouse but not visa versa. So this means that games like Terminator 2 will work great.

    weeks notice in a small company. I have a friend that is leaving a large military contractor on 2 weeks notice with no hard feelings. But when he left the company I still work for previously he gave a months notice and there are no hard feelings at all. Its really not a great idea to only give two weeks notice IMHO. If I only gave two weeks notice at the place I work right now I think I'd never hear the end of it.

    We are in the process of selling off our entire sun environment and moving to Dell servers running Debian. The machines originally ran Solaris 8 and even back when S8 was new just about every linux distro out there ran circles around it in ease of administration and installation. AFAIAC Solaris is not a viable GNU/Linux alternative. :D

    The fact that neither of these games now work in XP is reason enough not to want to upgrade. I upgraded without knowing that and went back to play them again. Man I was pissed. I had to install windows 2k on a spare partition to play all my old games. I wish game companies could take alittle time and fix whatever minor changes are needed to make their games work with XP SP2. I guess I could buy a console and play my FPS with a joystick.

    I use linux 40hrs a week as my work desktop. I boot into windows about once in a blue moon on the same machine (came with the machine). Its amazing how much more responsive and solid windows xp feels compared to my Ubuntu and FC3 desktops.

    One day linux will have an amazing desktop environment but its not even close right now.

    me to install wireless in our house. WPA with a max length random password, sid broadcast turned off and MAC authorization enabled. It took awhile to get everything working cuz it (WPA) was newish and her version of XP had to be updated to support it etc. If friends come over and ask if they can use the wireless lan it takes like 10 minutes for them to type all the random shit in and for me to add their mac address to the router :) She says I'm paranoid. She's right.
