I'm browsing with the new release of Chrome and it quite clearly fails the test. Just because the counter says 100/100 doesn't mean it passes. There are rendering problems with the squares and it quite clearly prints "linktest failed".

How hard is it to read the Acid3 explanation that passing the test IS matching the reference rendering exactly?

You're wrong. Think of it like this. The first is no choice at all, just theatrics. In the first "choice" you have three possible choices but they all have exactly the same outcome: you proceed to "round 2". In round 2, you have a choice between 2 doors - one win and one lose. 50/50.

  6. TFA Is Wrong on Psychologists Don't Know Math · · Score: 1

Two ways to look at it. No matter what you do, your first choice is meaningless. Only your second choice matters. In that choice you have two doors, one win and one lose. 50/50.

The article obfuscates the common sense nature of it by incorrectly collapsing two separate possibilities in to one.

If the car is in #3, the _four_ possibilities are:
Pick #1, Monty opens #2 (switch = win)
Pick #2, Monty opens #1 (switch = win)
Pick #3, Monty opens #1 (switch = lose)
Pick #3, Monty opens #2 (switch = lose)
    50/50

In reality, the first choice just obfuscates. The second choice, the one that determines if you won is a choice between one win and one lose.

I use blockbuster's online DVD rental service. Originally I was attracted by the cheaper price and the ability to rent a couple new releases in the stores every month. Recently though, I've found I prefer to use my two coupons a month to rent games. The game rentals are more expensive (but free with the coupon) and with Blockbusters new almost No Late Fees policy, I can basically have two two-week game rentals. It's cool to have almost a month to tackle a longish RPG for free with my online DVDs.

I have an MX700 using FastRF and I can tell you I still experience lag, though it's not exactly as you describe it. While I don't regularly experience lag, the mouse goes into a power saving mode after a certain period of inactivity. When in this mode it only checks for movement what looks about once a second. Moving the mouse once it's sat still for a good while (5 minutes mmaybe?) you can notice a significant lag until it wakes up and realizes stuff is happening.

All the other times when it said the crash was caused by a device driver, it gave me the option to track the progess of their investigation. I didn't take it because it requires a MS Passport ID. But, they obviously have have a way to ID the common crashes.

Heck, mozilla can categorize the why a crash happened with their talkback software. What makes you think Microsoft is any less capable?

  18. MS Does Track OS Crashes on Gates Provides Windows Crash Statistic · · Score: 2, Informative

My WinXP Pro isntallation crashes about four times a week. Microsoft does track these. Most installations are configured to create a core dump on a stop error. They use a more detailed mechanism to report these failures. In fact, where as the regular app crash reporting just sends data, the OS crash sends the data, connects to MS in IE and presents information to you.

Most of the time for me, that information is "this was caused by a device driver problem; we are investigating." Once however, it told me, "This crash was caused by a problem which has been fixed in SP-1. Please update your installation."

So, I have no doubt that the 5% statistic is really operating system crashes as the article states. Now, for all those non-connected machines or users that choose to deny the report to microsoft... well.... 5% could be a little low.

  25. I for one AM bored on On to Mars · · Score: 2

We ARE bored with space exploration because, so far, it is a relaitve failure. He compared our space endeavours to earlier centuries' age of exploration. The age of exploration suceeded because we were able to sail great ships across the dessert of the ocean and find inhabitable and colonizable worlds. If the explorers, navigators, and conquistadors only ever found barren, lifeless, uninhabitable islands of rock floating in the middle of the ocean, the age of exlporation would have probably come to a quick end as well.

I believe that space exploration requires the same sucess as earth exploration did. We must find inhabitable and/or life bearing worlds. Science fiction shows often have an uncanny ability to portend the future. Often technological gadgets that appeared in old sci-fi shows appear in modern day life. I believe sci-fi shows tap the social unconcious and portray our natural desires or fears for the future. Take then a look at some of the most popular space oriented sci-fi shows: Star Trek, Star Trek TNG, Lost in Space, Babylon 5, etc. They all have atleast one thing in common, they all explore life bearing and human inhabitable planets from time to time.

I believe that we are in a phase now where we need to concentrate on the next great technological breakthroughs of space travel. We need to find how to get farther faster for cheaper. The moon, mars they are boring, uninhabitable (at least by man unassisted) planets. We need to reach farther into our solar system if not into other solar systems to find more life sustaining planets like our own.

Believe me, once we have a good class M planet (planet like Earth for non Trekkies) that we can send tens or hundreds or thousands of people to colonize, the public will get very much interested in space excploration again. We're just tired of landing on and seeing pictures of gigantic barren rocks whirling around the sun.
