I'm an allout Opportunity fan. Oppurtunity was by far the more interesting part of the mission.
First it was the one that discovered that there once was water, then it's the one that just explored it's own heatshield and of course it's the one with the most stunning panorama of a crater on mars that I have ever seen.
There is a similar smart device in use over here in Munich/Germany. (Google translate)
It detatches via remotecontrol, only if you confirm the incident with an expert. Then it "talks" you through the whole process. If it is not a real heartattack the device won't go off (could be used for fun stuff if it would;-) and instruct you with further first aid measures.
Ok, the A500 looked like a kitchen machine. But hey, I got a A1200 sitting right here on my desk and I think it looks cool in a StarWars-toy way, not in a "Phillip Starck bathroom" way...
Of course it feels crude today, but still, it boots fast, it has a small laptop hardrive (it's really quiet), it's pretty fast at everything it does and it still works.
And personally I think the A600s biggest strength was is cool design. Sooo much Computer in sooo little space. Cute. And it's not really beige, it USED to be a shade of white.;-)
I mean, those hard edges and everything, much cooler than todays biomorphic, ergonomic stuff. But maybe it's just me. I also like IBMs Desktopline...
My point was I would buy an Amiga that lived up to the promise of yesterdays Amigas using modern technology. Maybe a Mini-ITX box with a custom Linux distribution, although this wouldn't solve the Games dillemma. Actually the iMac comes as close as it gets (it's white, too). And I would NEVER get one. I think an iMac is one ugly box of technology.
The problem is that the folks that buy brand names don't get what's it all about. I would buy an Amiga, even with a propriety OS if it would do what the Amiga did. Wich was from my definition:
- look cool in my living room - have a slick gui with extreme ease of use - interoperate with my stereo and TV - run software that gets the job done - offer all this at an affordable price
So far I could just get out and buy an iMac, but here's the hurdle:
- be the perfect gameconsole, run every hot game out there AND is easy to use a "real" console. - Ah, and while you're at it, get rid of the Guru Meditation.
"how excally does 'mankind' benifit from by going into space?"
Errr, hello? It could save mankind from deadly diseases, asteriod crashes or nuclear strikes. It could be our ONLY ticket out if something ever goes wrong on earth. And, NO, this is not paranoid. Remember the dinosaurs?
Opportunity climbed a huge crater down and later up again. I could imagine that due to the steep climbing angle some of the sand fell off. My lame theory, i know it's statically loaded and sticky and I know gravity is only a third, but it could be a factor, maybe?
It's not only bloat, it's also a security risk. You THINK you updated that imagelib with all those backdoors, in all programs that use it, I mean every single one of it?

Ok, there are two rules I follow: 1. Never touch a running system. but even more importantly: 2. Never touch the running system of your girlfriend/wife.
I did that a few weeks ago and upgraded her machine. Due to bad luck I bought a faulty RAM module and "thought" I had double checked it. Well, long story short, I got her machine ready in time for her finals but I went through a lot of absolutely unnecessery trouble. Ok, now she's happy and all but I nearly failed it. I would never ever try my development code on her productive box.
Allthough this might be slightly offtopic: There are games for Nokia mobile phones that use the built in camera as a motion tracker. So you can control the cursor by moving the phone. Looks pretty weird, though.

Hey, darn. That's my hidden citadel. Now I gotta move my lair to another moon. Muahaha...

Not sure if those actually saved lives yet...

Well, it's all a matter of taste.

Ok, I just RTFA and found that they mention my great "theory", nevermind. ;-)

Errrrr, this is NOT a dockingstation? It is firmly installed? Then indeed it's stupid.

Alternative: Stop browsing the web, get outside from time to time and you might just ditch weightwatchers altogether.

(Sorry. Nom.
Well, if this was true then everyone would be using Linux since their next door geek keeps telling them "Windows sucks!".
The truth is, zealots can get annoying...
even worse: My exgirlfriends name is Susann, and I am actively deploying a Samba Server next week.
I guess I'd better stick with Samba3 or else my girl thinks I am out latin-dancing with my exgirlfriend...

really, let's worry about that if we send the first landers that actually bring stuff from mars. Right now there is nothing remotely dangerous...
I just read " eReader.com is having a free eBook pr0n this month"
;-)
I bet this would finally accelerate the acceptance in the market.

Translated for women:

Mom: Connecting your call now
Sales people: "yes dear" every 5 minutes or so
Husband: "no you can't have XXX"
Mistress: "Honey, we need to talk!"
Yeah, I realized that too. I blew it. ;-/
I want a pizza too...

I'm 28 and I can inform you that you are absolutely, stunningly right.
