Very smart comment. Sadly I ran out of modpoints. I was always sceptical about the "Apps first" approach but with your example I finally got it. Its really true that people dont care too much about the OS. The same way they run Windows because their favourite games run on it. But the sad part is that you have to deliver both, the existant killerapps and some new ones to make a switch. Thats the problem apple is facing.
I play EnemyTerritory a lot. Then I like Neverwinternights, BzFlag and Freeciv. All the i.d. stuff is there too along with UnrealTournament and some classics such as SimCity 3000.
I never missed much of the rest of the gaming world.
Rest assured, they do. I run the X.org server already, since its part of Dropline Gnome 2.6 testing. I only had to rerun the installer. No difference recognized so far...
I wish they would join wih the freedesktop.org X-server folks and bring true alpha to the desktop before redmond does...;-)
Not sure. I really liked spatial environments back in my Atari days. The only thing you really need for dragging around icons in an efficent manner in spatiality is space on the desktop. Thats why it sucked back then. Now with high resolutions everywhere I am willing to retry the concept. Dont like it still? You can turn back to the old default.

Sure, microscopic evidence would be king. But I think that a simple reproduction of the Viking results would still harden the theory. That would be a good start. We'll see what the future holds in stock with all those findings coming in I believe it will be hard to ignore such experiments on future missions.

If this turns out to be what it seems to be it is a dream come true. I wonder how this might affect future missions. Hopefully they will start digging at last and not only look for indirect signs of life such as water.
There were some experiments onboard the Viking landers that showed some odd results but weren't invested any further.
The fact that the fine rovers are unable to detect life is a shame I think. They were designed to search for water only, I know. But they should at least have been equipped with minimal biological experiments too, just in case. I can't wait for a samplereturn mission...
I was just wondering if this is finally the device Leela is wearing in Futurama? I knew this series was prophetic. Can't wait until they start installing these tubes in my city...
If grandma was running as root and open a console and type 'chmod a+x virus', maybe. Windows is broken by design, not because the users are stupid. I don't say it's entirely impossible but still it's highly unlikely.
This depends. If you search in the right spot it's actually very easy. When I was a kid, my dad and I used to visit Solnhofen where they found the Archaeopteryx. They have digging sites for tourists. With my nine years old it took me about half an hour to find a fossil there wich I still possess. If you know where to look they are all over.
May I ask what graphic card you are running? I wasn't able to get further than 1024x768 using the Xves driver from the package. Are you that lucky to have a supported card or did you use some sort of voodoo I haven't figured out yet? Or are you using, yikes, the framebuffer?
Hrm...it's not done yet. If they really go for WinFS and Avalon and add all the other stuff they are planning on it might be something radical.
But then again, most of it isn't implement yet and they just announced to ship another "WinXP reloaded" before Longhorn finally arrives. Afterall it's Microsoft and I wouldn't be surprised if we'd see a release without some of their "keyfeatures".
My bet is they will release a halfassed version in 2007 and until then Linux might finally have a decent desktop share. This will be very interesting to watch!
Come on, If neither would be supported and I had to choose I would still go for Win98. It is so fast to install it again that it doesn't even matter and it didn't have all those RPC holes in it yet. Personally I'd trust my mom with a Win98 machine on the web more than with WinXP. Needless to say that most users out there run their machines with admin privileges anyway so this doesn't make any difference either.
This is still better than someone stealing your car because your car opens with his key. Happens all the time.. I guess I might just stick with my 1984 X-19 Bertone.

Soory, Id prefer a USB 2.0 based solution as much as the next guy but Bluetooth definetly isnt hard to use. Yesterday I connected a Nokia 6310 with a Sony Vaio Notebook via Bluetooth and I had NEVER done this before. I might not be totally PC illerate but it was a matter of turning on bluetooth on both devices and authorizing both devices. Then I was able to surf the web using the cellphone as a modem. It was easy to explain to my customer how to do this. He was only half listening but got it in two minutes. If it could get any easier I would like to know how?

Whats next? Now that we have gmail, this could be their next big thing.
