This is soooooo lame. Forgive me, but I have about 70 years on this planet. I didn't START this war, i didn't attack any NCY-buildings and I def don't intend to. My personal believe is that the slashdot crowd (and Opensource folk in general) are open minded and world-aware people with a FOCUS on Computers and Electronics. So why don't you just let us do what we live for and continue with whatever meaningful you have been doing. I BET every Slashdotter has an opinion about the current situation but they don't discuss it on Slashdot since it's just not the right place. FYI I'm german and I get flamed pretty often, lately, so I come here to relax...

Its a cute lil distro, but maybe you should consider to download the latest Slack8.1 (or even Slack9 current RC1) depending on when you burned your CD. Just being courios, what is it that youre running on your boxes right now?

It is a Slackware optimized version of gnome with some hardcoded addins (such as the dropshadows in the pulldowns...) wich makes it run quite fast even on slower machines and a easy to use Installer with autoupdate-features.

But it is rather "Slackocentric" so if you dont run that very Distribution you might be out of luck. Still its really a neat Project.

I'd never say Linux looks ugly. I personally think that Linux Desktops nowadays beat Windows (especially XP) Desktops downright when it comes to looks.

Just check out Dropline-Gnome (with tranparent, shadowed Cursors) or Fluxbox. No competition here. Although i must admit that OS-X still looks a little bit sexier. But is there anything cooler than a real high-res FB-Console? ;-)

Sure, everybody wants to live but quite a few people did great things during rather short lifetimes (Mozart, Douglas Adams, Jesus, Alexander the great, even Torvalds did it when he was young etc...) so why would anyone like me want to live forever? If i haven't had my fifthteen minutes yet i guess i never will so it's only fair to make place for the young. (I'm 26 now, I guess I'll give it another shot thought ;-)

I am a rather fresh Linux User but I love Slackware since it is the only distro i fully understand the startup scripts and wich gives me a logical patharchitecture where i find my stuff in the right places. I started out with Slackware because my local Linuxguru told me to but i tried a few other distros (Sonys PS2-Linux, Debian and SuSE) and found them mostly confusing...Since then I keep spreading the word in my neighbourhood and afaik most Newbies like it. Combined with Dropline-Gnome Slack makes a neat Multimedia/Desktop-Box as well.

    Looking forward to Slack9!

We have Paycards now for a couple of years. They are included as a chip on the standard Eurocard. The problem is there aren't many places where it is accepted. I was starving in line) and the Munich Transport Authority but never saw any real shops where they would take it. Even worse, cigarette machines don't accept them.
