    I doubt anyone would be able to make much sense or use of the data anyway. The government classifies so much stuff, who knows what it is? Telephone numbers? Ionization cross sections of some rare earth elements?

    However, you CAN keep one of these "second-rate" email addresses indefinitely.

    That's what I thought too. Then one of the services started charging and the other one (altavista) stopped offering it altogether. Doh!

    I bought a domain that I can move from ISP to ISP. That is how you keep your email address the same.

    I was in the Quad Cities "International" Airport yesterday, and HEY! free wireless internet. Score! But then in Detroit it was $7 to hook up. :P

    Then I thought, there should be some user maintained web page that summarizes what kind of networking airports have available. I couldn't find such a thing on google. Any hints?

    Yes, no firewire was the show stopper for me too. My storage drive is firewire. My video camera is firewire. Guess I'm sticking with RH8.

    I'm guessing that all the offspring must be female too -- no X chromosome. So if you want a son, you'll have to use a male. But I suppose you don't need male offspring any more anyway, as the females can reproduce themselves. :)

    The parent is right. Other languages don't become fractured. That's because they have standards, often international ones, not because they're not open. If Sun were worried about fracturing, they'd submit java to a standards organization (like ANSI). But they haven't. They want to keep complete control over Java. They can change it whenever they want and keep the source.

    Because NASA is primarily another big subsidy program for the miltary-industrial complex of the US. NASA isn't primarily interested in science (e.g. the Hubble). And they're sure as hell not interested giving money to other countries. NASA gets money so they can give it to the large aerospace corporations that line your congressman's pockets.

    It can even be argued that the older analog oscilloscopes are better than newer digital ones.

    I think that would be a pretty damn hard argument. When I went to school the only thing they had were analog scopes. Now as a professional I use only digital scopes, and there is no comparison. Having storable digital data far exceeds the usefulness of a flash on the screen in every way.

    Fortunately, you're wrong. Just the fact that the Supreme Court took the case is a good indicator that some of the justices are skeptical of the previous rulings that went against the man.

    No, you don't. You're giving something away for free. People aren't going to expect a lot. If they need something more reliable, they can buy it elsewhere.

    Start simple. Just allow open access. If you start having problems (I assume that you'll be using this access point regularly), then throw in a cheap PC to do the fancy bandwidth/packet management. The most important thing is to get it up and running soon so people are attracted, then iron out the bumps out as you go along.
