In 2001 we bought a Canon IXUS V and one spare battery. We have been using those two battries in tandem up until earlier this year where the camera died. We never had an instance where we had two flat batteries, even when the camera died both still had a good battery life. If the battery is going to outlive to product what does it matter?
All UAC did was train people to press "Yes" on every dialog even more zealously than before. A system based around asking important questions to people who neither understand or care is not a good one. sudo works because everyone using it does care.
What MS is doing here is clever IMO. Instead of trusting the user to not do anything dumb, they've instead given them a big "Press me to fix your computer" button to wail on. People will see their computer is being slow, hit the button and hopefully the problem will be fixed.
No doubt there are people who use theirs like this. iPods are for entertainment after all. Also your kid is pretty smart, paying more upfront to have access to free games instead of having to spend all his money on a new DS game every month. For more spoiled kids its less of an issue, they get an iPod and DS and get a regular supply of games. I imagine that demographic would lean towards the DS because spending money on games isn't an issue.
(How far things have come from being able too choose between Gameboy and Gameboy and having a handful of good games to choose from, and having to buy magazines (cutting into valuable game money) to find out which games were worth buying.)
iPhones on the other hands are phones and productivity devices and whittling your battery to zero playing games isn't feasible for most iPhone owners. So on these devices time-wasters might thrive, but more fleshed out games that have hours of gameplay aren't a good match.
They are, but not to the extent you might think. The store you are buying it from is paying its staff a much higher rate than those in the poor country, the same goes for all parts of the distribution chain. I find that a few months after release prices settle to reasonable levels.
It really don't matter how good a phone is for games if it sucks the battery dry. The DS has great battery life, much better than the PSP, and I still manage to fully drain the DS from time to time. If that also meant I can't make calls and communicate it'd be a big problem. So until battery technology is such that I can play games, make calls, listen to music and watch videos for a few days without charging then I'm not ready to have my phone take on all those duties.
Been doing this ever since I was a kid. Try to finish entire stages of Super Mario World by just flying, don't collect the extra hearts in Zelda, in multiplayer games make it so whoever comes second loses, finish a game with only the intital weapon. Lots of things like these.
Interestingly these self-made modes and challenges are now not all that uncommon in retail releases. With games awarding prizes for things like only using one weapon all game or the Don't come second mode was in a Rayman game my friend had.
I can see this getting messy. For instance Rainlendar and Winamp both have TWO listings in Task Manager's application list, yet in my current configuration both just have an icon in the system tray, nothing on the taskbar itself.
Are these going to count as one, two or zero applications each?
The character limit makes you aware how much fluff we add to what we say. Most comments on this article could be half as long and lose little. I wouldn't claim it is bringing succinctness back to English, sum ppl jus rite lyk dis nstead.
Other sites do it, one takes anecdotes with word limit of ~50 makes good use as readers can absorb many stories quickly increasing how much they enjoy their time at the site. In a time poor society I'd appreciate more people going straight to the point.
(FYI, I wrote this post, realised how long it was and trimmed it down to below half as long without sacrificing any content)
I really have to disagree. The web browser's job is to display websites, and if I want to view 40 at once and it lets me, why shouldn't I expect it to work as perfectly as just 5 tabs would. Sure I understand it might need to use a lot of memory to do so, but there really isn't a good reason the GUI should start to slow down and potentially lock up. If Firefox can't handle 40 loaded pages then it shouldn't load the other pages until I try to access the tab or something similar.
The Australian constitution is a mess of a document and really not very long.
We have freedom of speech in regards to political speech to an extent, but no explicit freedom regarding anything else.
The compression isn't getting better, cameras save as Fine JPEG and that is as about good as JPEG can do. Maybe a few tweaks here and there in newer imaging chips, but thats it. Until say cameras support formats like HD Photo, compressed files aren't going to get any better/smaller.
While Sennheiser they do make some very good headphones, certain entries to their range are simply outclassed by competitors. For instance Audio Technica's ATH-AD700 is just much better value than the 595s or 555s. (Don't even mention the woeful 515s.) My point is that Sennheiser know they have brand recognition and price higher accordingly, when you could get a Beyerdynamic or Audio Technica of better quality for the same price.
That said I don't mean to discredit Sennheiser as a brand, the 201s are phenomenal value for an entry level headphone. They make a great gift for anyone. The HD800s should be a good headphone, that said I'm not going to pretend I've ever worn a headphone that costs over $300, or that I could differentiate one from the set I own.
Wikipedia, some site, Safari, Firefox & Konqueror are the top five results, IE not even in the first ten. Also I did a few other Live searches and wow they've impressed me with how irrelevant their results can get.
For many you don't, but for anything remotely niche if the initial run doesn't sell there won't be reprints and you'll miss the game altogether.
That said I don't think this is the case in the US from what I see on Amazon or retail sites. There are tons of copies of 'rare' games I'd love to buy being sold off on Amazon for around US$10, yet here the same game is sold at AU$80 and each shop carries maybe a dozen if you are lucky (for a population of 1m) and when they're gone that is it.
I think this same problem applies across Europe to a lesser extent too where publishers are equally wary and game diversity tends to be far below what gets published in the US.
While a through intimacy with film isn't necessary basic knowledge would help. The best example I can think of is animated materials. Its just very different from most other video and as such most video encoders have a special animation preset. I imagine if someone was more familiar with animated material (western cartoons, Disney-esque film, classic anime, modern anime, cel-shaded films) they'd be and able to better create a video codec for compressing and minimising quality loss on these types of video.
The Australian constitution only has provisions for free speech in regard to political matters. I presume that is why they were limiting it only to political speech.
If we all had infinite time then sure, but when a friend rings saying they're moving into the new place tomorrow and they want to get internet up and running ASAP and want to know who you recommend, you think anyone is going to wait for you?
Incomplete information is a fact of life and the better use you can make of it the better off you are.
I'm fine with my theoretical kids shooting people in an FPS once they are mature enough to handle it. I'm not fine with them being foul-mouthed assholes however.
I would have thought that this would have been the prevalent logic around here. Shooting people in an FPS is normal, being an asshole shouldn't be.
It doesn't really matter in the end because thanks to the loudness war its all going to be ruined anyway. Even with all the extra room 96Hz offers I'm sure they'd opt to ruin it all anyway.
I mean if the difference is light and day at Youtube quality you can only begin to imagine how much is being lost overall. I really don't know how artists let this happen, its an insult really.
She is 17 now, how do you know she is 17 in the picture?

Its a social problem, not a technical one.

Of course you should argue, you are as smart as he is!

Except that the prickly pear is delicious.

If such an option existed I'm sure there would be an option to turn it off or tweak it to not eat all of your cap.

Try the "Plugins" tab of the Add-on window as opposed to "Extensions". Both Flash and Java are listed and can be disabled.

A quick search on Youtube finds a couple of practical examples.;
Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy Metallica - Death Magnetic
