I used to have one - after needing replacement 4 times in 1 year, I gave up on it - the software written in Redmond - was soooo buggy it would crash and reset the box on an increasingly regular basis.
I am quite sure that they at the very least use agregate data, if not more detailed info.
Make life miserable for the isp. bounce EVERY spam that comes through them to sales@isp, info@isp,abuse@isp, and postmaster@isp.
I did this with uu.net when they refused to stop the deluge of spam their customers kept sending - i got taken off a lot of spam lists i think simply because the sales people were telling their contracts to.
ANY isp that allows these vermin to spam needs to be shut down, and burying them in their own filth is a start. If they gripe you tell them you'll stop bouncing it back to them when they stop sending it to you in the first place.
It was funny how mad the uu.net scum got when they had to deal with their own spam. I got some great responses from some of the sales people - almost wish i had saved them.
To give to the inmates who make these spammers their bitches. I can't wait to hear how brutally these 2 get treated by some of the other lowlifes of society. Its about the only thing that might scare some of these spammers out of business.
The worst offenders are already known, such as Ralsky. I'm sure almost everyone here would celebrate his demise, and the slower and more brutal, the better.
You are correct - any changes to the bill must be re-approved.
However, expect this to be a rubber stamp. Everyone needs to speak up loudly. Call your local newspapers and television stations and ask them to report on how this bill will actually make spam worse.
When calling a television station, ask for the news director.
Hmmm - lets see Bond had the media mogul/software villian, Anti-trust was a rip on Bill Gates...
Anyone want to bet an SCO type company will be the next super-villian? You do NOT want to piss off hollywood.
For example, they could create an evil company, thinly modeled on SCO and its executives. They could for example make the bad companies ceo into kiddie porn, drugs, prostitution, etc.
Of course the company would be a work of fiction, and any similarities to people living or dead is strictly coincidental...
Was running a pos television router made back in 1980
I'm gonna rescue the poor old thing (the xt) before the router goes to the dump - all 3 full racks of it. (Less one 8x8 segment that I plan to use for target practice with my.50 cal rifle - see what kind of holes I can make:) )
That had to be fun back in the day setting up an xt to network with some overpriced proprietary hardware.

Reports of Half Life further delay mistaken?
It will ship at Yuletide, it appears

SOURCES CLOSE to Valve Software tell us that despite wires - including us - picking up a Les Echos report that Half Life is delayed, it won't be. And it isn't. Apparently Valve is close to issuing a statement about all of this - and our sources maintain that it's still going to ship in the "holiday" period - Yuletide to you and me.
ummm...WHEN was the last time you got a spam without forged headers?
I can't remember the last one.
If we could identify them then put the lawyer types to work getting restraining orders. It would be fun to see all the spammers in prison for violating a court order. Heh you could then see even more lawyer types working hard to get the scum out of prison. Win-win for the lawyer types.
To quote Heinlein, (and whoever he borrowed this from if its not an original) "Never appeal to a man's better nature, he may not have one. Appealing to his self interest gives you more leverage."
As for bullets, they kill to fast. A good old fashioned necklacing or two, like they used to do in South Africa, video taped and posted on the web for all the other spammers to see.
(For those who don't know, this involves placing a tire soaked in gasoline around the vermin, keeping their arms pinned, and igniting it.)
Yes that last comment was flame-bait, pun intended.
Maybe a way to avoid any shaky first amendment issues - commercial speech already enjoys less fa privliges than personal speech.
First require all spammers to register and be licensed as a business. A nice solid license fee (not so high as to risk legal challenge, but in line with what other businesses have to pay that are licensed).
A $.05 tax PER ADDRESSEE for all unsolicited commercial email would end spam fast. $5k to send out 100k spams would put an end to it fast. (Does anyone know what rate a bulk snail-mailer has to pay per piece of junk?) And tax evasion laws have some very nasty teeth - nasty enough for all of us that wish to hear about spammers getting brutally gang-raped in prison to be quite happy.
And of couse make it a felony to attempt to hide the source of the mailing by forging headers, bogus return addresses etc.
Of course I still believe that just selling hunting tags and making it legal to hunt spammers would produce better results.
The Italians have a radar system (their equivalent of aegis, I believe) that wipes out marisat communications. I had to tell the captain he'd have to wait til that cruiser got far enough away before he could talk to the office.

there is a space on federal tax forms somewhere for illegally earned income - i forget the exact phrase.
Tax evasion penalties are far more drakonian than most criminal ones
Actually its MUCH more
$2k by each adult, +$2k per child: $8k for a "typical" family
very standard behavior for the well to do

Grainger, or Greybar. You can get 12' 24 outlet strips from them - be prepared to drop $75-$100 though.
I use these all the time in racks, 1 for primary power, 1 for generator backed supplies.
that won't do it. Many major firms have custom bios installed.
The laptop checks via the internet to see if its id (serial# ?) is on the stolen list. If it is it self-destructs.
Some friends who used to work for a major silicon valley firm said this was done at their place of employment.

Lets kill this POS before its too late
I already have money set aside to by my spammer tags :)
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would end almost all US based spam given one document - a signed pardon.
just visit various spammers, liquidate them, no consequences.
Hell, I'd even make a very large campaign contribution to Bush for that piece of paper, and I can't stand the man.
Both sides will lose.
The winner: the lawyers walk away with millions in legal fees from both sides.

however, if you go stab someone with a knife you will face multiple charges, including:
Attempted murder
assault with a deadly weapon
etc.
you won't just face the charge of using a knife. Thats just an option to add another 4+ years to the sentence.

What a fascinating tale this is all becoming.
I don't know about re-written, but perhaps expanded.
First have the main list for commercial telemarkets, as now exists.
Add a second list for politicians, and a third for non-profits.
That would allow people to filter according to personal choice, although I'm fairly certain most would opt out of all 3 types of calls.
Sorry, surveys are also exempt from the DNC list.
Abc used T4 as a primary feed, and also as a network HD feed. Made for an interesting scramble to move things around today.
Though personally I would love to see all that soap opera crap disappear along with oprah and all the rest of daytime television.

Never had any trouble in any of those areas - Klaipeda, Lithuania; Poti, Georgia; or Vladivostok. Only around Italy.
Of course no one treats a merchant ship as a threat. Not until someone sucessfully uses an LPG tanker to take out a city or two...
