Your bank does that not pay pal. The banks "dubious" reasoning for this is that high purchases should be payed first i.e mortgage, auto loan, powerbills, etc. source: bank executive's own words on an NPR interview about the new US credit/bank regulations a few months ago.
I agree with you that doing something even as simple as calling 911 is the right thing to do. However, lets say you have a family you have to support as the only bread winner.
Role play: A crime is happening in front of you and the perp sees you calling 911. Guess who is next. Yes the logical thing for the criminal is to run to escape but we are talking about some one who is a violent criminal - logic is not necessarily going to guide this persons actions.
How many of us have actually seen a brutal incident while it's happening? Unless one is trained as first responder or military then we really have no idea how some one respond (shock/freezing up/panic/running). Heck, I remember freezing up for about 20 seconds when I, when I was young, saw a friend get into a minor fender bender on an icy road - I couldn't imagine what would happen if I saw something more serious than that, I'm older and wiser now but hell if I'm going to support a law criminalizing non-participants. This is dangerous to legislate natural reactions of a bystander when the bystander is not the actual perpetrator, the law does not account for all circumstances.
If the company goes belly up some one will step up to the plate and release a liberation patch whether officially or unofficially. Just keep your documentation of purchases and no sane judge will give a damn about what you did to access files that you bought that are on your machine.
There is a DM someone who sets the rules of the game and make sure everyone plays with in the imaginary boundaries. The DM is an authority figure and the players must acquesce to his/her rules. This is basically a model for prison life and some would say life as a "good citizen".
If the rules are in dispute you negotiate and resolve the issue before moving on. Negotation is definitely something you want to teach to violent offenders since they may not have had any 1st hand experience with it.
Basic mathematics and reading. Playing a game and being good at it requires one to learn the rules of the game. You want to find that numbers advantage? the DM isn't going to hand it to you on a silver platter. Many small gamers learn to read so they can figure out what to do next or what the screen is telling them and the same can apply in a prison setting with low literacy rates and math skills.
Abstract problem solving skills. Ok this makes the criminal more dangerous but it could be a skill set that could be used for good and finding a respectable job. (yes I know about job aps and disclosure of arrests/prison time)
As some one said before socializing with others as well as team work to accomplish goals together.
Here is how I use it. Year one I use it. If year two is the same as year one except some raise in income I fill it out myself. If year 3 is different from year 1 say I buy a house then I use it again to see what forms and what deductions are used. Then I start at year two again nothing changes I do it myself with the forms I know Things haven't changed for me in the past 4 years so the cost of 50 dollars over 4 years has amortized to roughly $12.5 a year and keeps getting lower.
So this sparks an idea. Could the open source community develop a tax preparation software suite where the costs would be less than existing options out there. How much good will could FOSS receive from the public with an offering of this magnitude. ~~~ I'll stop dreaming now.
Is American consumerism so out of control we take out loans on anticipated income now, in order to spend it as soon as possible (with extra fees tacked on due to interest / finance charges) ?
I wonder what happens to consumers who take said loans if the IRS "corrects" their return and eliminates their refund.
I guess they bought their fancy toys/doodads by the time that happens though, and they can default on their anticipation loan in the same way they stopped paying their credit card bills and mortage; however.
Yes, but that's not all. There are also companies that offer payday advances with huge loan shark interest rates and fees. Usually these businesses are located in poorer neighborhoods and help the low income patrons of these services dig themselves deeper in the hole.
I read the first line of your post and started to respond.. then I stopped and looked up and read the rest of it and saved myself a lot of typing trying to explain why we would not be able to vote them out. Mod parent up.
and your being asked to take on additional projects/responsibilities so that the national average of productivity can go up as an indicator of the economy... how ecstatic would you be?
~Thankfully this is not the situation at my institution but I can certainly relate.
So are there any fantasy set games that have similar mechanics to Eve-Online with some semi-decent graphics? Not everyone enjoys the space setting that Eve offers. (I am a fan of both genres)
The Diplomacy was almost like a card style game in Vanguard. I never played card games in real life but became very invested in the Vanguard diplomacy. The cool thing about the diplomacy was that it changed local prices and buffs for players in the city area. The only reason I didn't stay in Vanguard was that I was pulled into EVE online.
They do, but they cost the same and some times more than the text book. Some will have a kill date attached to the file for a small discount off the full price.
I set up my e-mails to my boss and boss's boss in 2 sections, executive summary then detailed information. I pretty much know the things that they want but give the additional detail in case the need more info and I'm not present to answer questions.
Have you ever read something and thought "get to the point already"? When directors and above is wading through tons of e-mails executive summaries help move the process along faster.
Hands-free Bluetooth devices are O.K., and you'll be allowed to use any phone in the event of an emergency to call 911. Your GPS unit will still be able to direct you, as long as its properly secured to your dashboard.
"Communication devices such as CBs that are hard-wired into the vehicle are not covered by the ban," the official states.
If helpdesk people get paid for their 5 mins of log in - set up time then your brother definitely has a case under FLSA to be compensated for pre flight checks etc.. I'm assuming U.S. here.
Do I/they really feel like surfing the internet... How does business operate the day before/after Christmas/Thanksgiving when everyone is at home using the net... this is a non issue.
I used to buy 15-30 movies and 12-20 CDs a year until they sued that grandmother over her kids using her internet connection to file share. I now only play MMOs, read books and listen to the radio for my entertainment. So we are looking at 300-1000 US dollars a year in lost sales depending on various priceing.
If enough people consciously boycotted and promoted boycotting the RIAA/MPAA in front of Best Buys/Targets/Walmarts (especially on black friday) through fliers and other means..they could start to make a dent that would matter and help change the behavior of those Associations.
My wife was watching the show I sat down for a couple minutes then promptly left when I saw one of the characters using a sharpened #2 pencil to write.

edit: In the above situation for the bread winner it would be ideal to get to safety then call if you don't think you can handle the situation.

Thanks for the Lord Dunsany/Edward Plunkett reference. My library carries it and will definitely check it out.
If I can't control this myself to avoid hitting the trigger how is this fair?
In addition, there's the Pan American games where the criterion of being an American. North/South/Central.
