Given how Starforce works fine on some systems, then totally buggers others up, without knowing how Microsoft test it, I'm not convinced anything has changed. Starforce is still a damaging trojan.
What I love is how folk have been brainwashed into this mentality, that you don't need to backup the disk and, if something happens, you should buy it again.
Am I the only one who remembers earlier games on floppy where the first thing the manual said was "BACKUP THE DISKS!" Why the hell shouldn't we be allowed to do that now? I've got stuff I've bought online that uses Elicense. First chance I had, I downloaded warezed versions. If Elicense ever goes tits up and I want to reinstall the software, by not breaking the law, I'm fucked. By downloading a copy (which isn't really breaking the law since I legitimately own the software) I'm covered if the company should go under. Even big companies can go under in a heartbeat. (Just ask those who invested in Enron, Barings Bank etc...)
I've got a 120 gig HD hooked to my PS2's network adaptor.
The drive tray hasn't been opened in two months now. I rip images of my games and send them over the network to the PS2. I could glue the tray shut and never have to worry about it.
Indeed. Not sure why this is news. If you bought a game in the last 5 years, you already knew this was the case. (One reason I've stopped buying PC games.)
One is 96k, the other is 256k. So taking the latter, my number is correct. However, taking the lower number, that would put 10 per meg, meaning somewhere close to 250 or so.
Regardless of which is more accurate overall, you're still better off download an emulator and some roms.
The argument I've always made is the leap in quality from VHS to DVD was huge. It was analog to digital etc... But the jump from DVD to HD isn't as big. I've seen uncompressed screenshots of DVD and HD next to each other from Lord of the Rings, and to be honest, in some cases, I felt DVD looked better. Most cases the difference was negligible. And that was on still images. When it's moving, I would challenge all but the most anally retentive videophile to tell the difference.
Throw in the increase in copy protection and playback restrictions, and you can shove the whole thing. The only interest I, and a lot of my friends, have in HD/BluRay is the storage capacity. For movies, we just don't care.
Let's not forget the format war either. VHS vs Beta proved that the superior format does NOT always win the battle.
25 meg download? LOL! You could get, what? 100 NES games in that file size?
I've got all the Mario titles on my GBA M3 flash cart. I tried the NES versions, but having got used to the graphical upgrade, I can't go back. (Though I have for RBI baseball. The M3 software automatically patches the roms with an emulator to run on the GBA. Wonderful.)
Was SMB3 included in All Stars? Overall, All Stars is an absolute classic and worth getting a SNES emulator for.
I immediately think of the first release of Devil May Cry 3 here. The US "Easy" difficulty was the Japanese normal or hard. (I forget which.) So it's not just Nintendo doing it.
Not sure why you've been modded as flamebait, but still...
It cuts both ways. The other week I was reading an article about how Counterstrike was modified for the Japanese audience. Biggest change I can remember is it's no longer terrorist/counter-terrorist. It's got a more futuristic edge, because Japanese audiences wouldn't go for original concept.
Japan has the best games IMO. Most of the games I love either started out as Japanese, or were designed by the Japanese, or, in some cases, were only ever released in Japan. (It's taken HOW long for Beatmania to finally get a US release? Yeah, thanks, but I was playing it back on the PS1.)
Nice to see someone mention the Harry Potter change. It had it's correct name up here in Canada. Never could figure out why they changed it.
Calling wikipedia an "encyclopedia" is like calling a plate full of turds a gourmet meal.
Wikipedia is a train wreck and a joke.
There was an edit to the entry for John Cena, the wrestler recently. In the middle of his bio someone had written "FUCK CENA".
Yeah, what a wonderful encyclopedia. (Not saying I don't agree with the comment, just that anyone who puts any stock in the accuracy of the content is a lunatic.)
Wouldn't be the first time Joystiq has been duped. They rip their content off from other sites anyway. Not an original thought between any of the writers.
Conclusive proof that the internet is populated by idiots with a mental age of 12, since I know I haven't given a crap about this day since I was that age.
Every fucking year the internet goes to hell for a day with unfunny crap like this.
I'd also recommend Myth II. It's about seven years old now, but it's got co-op and competitive play, an awesome selection of units, a ton of maps you can download off the net, and it's STILL being patched and upgraded by a dedicated group of fans.
You should be able to pick it up for next to nothing now.
Not seen anyone mention Neverwinter Nights. The new Platinum pack has the game, both expansions, and a bunch of other stuff as well. Pretty cheap too.
For the gamer who doesn't have time to fight through a game and unlock everything, or just finds the tedious jumping through hoops dull, the ARMax is well worth the effort.
Throw in a USB drive and you can back up your saves and download user created content.
The game has so many flaws it's not even funny. (No indication as to how far until the end of the missions, no map, no indicator as to where the secondary objectives are, no in-game save etc...)
And to see OPSM pimping it as "THE LAST GREAT PS2 GAME" just makes me sick. So many people are gonna fall for that, when Black is, at best a mediocre game, and at worse, one of the dullest FPS games ever released.
This whole story is bullshit. I remember years ago, there was some scaremongering about how on audio CD's, the ink would eat through the disk and render it unplayable in a decade...
Yeah, that's why disks I have there were printed in 1983-1985 still work just fine.
I've got burned disks here that are seven years old that are just fine. Perhaps if you burn at high speeds there may be issues (but I doubt it) but this is just spurious nonsense. IBM are obviously trying to sell something.
I do live here
My condolences...
Horse Groomaphone?
The only doom for me from the World Cup will be when England goes out.
That's so ridiculous. In the age of broadband and bit torrent, who "casually copies" stuff anymore? Downloading is easier (and often times, quicker).

Oh I wish I had mod points...
Fried Gold!
"But this game isn't finished. There's virtually no script, no ending, nothing."
"Ah screw it, call it open ended and ship it."
Indeed. Not sure why this is news. If you bought a game in the last 5 years, you already knew this was the case. (One reason I've stopped buying PC games.)
Well I've got 2 RBI roms here.
One is 96k, the other is 256k. So taking the latter, my number is correct. However, taking the lower number, that would put 10 per meg, meaning somewhere close to 250 or so.

Nice to see I'm not alone in my thoughts.

Anyone who gets into HD right now is a mug.

A spoiler warning for something this old? Are you insane?
BIG SPOILER! VADER IS LUKES FATHER!
Get a life!

I paid $20 for my CD based MP3 player. Works great! Even has a little spinner on it to skip tracks meaning no fumbling for buttons.
Still want an iPod though, but would never actually buy one. Not paying over the odds just for a name.
This was an interesting article, but as the first comment says, totally ignores every other MP3 player out there.

Yeah right. This, abusing customers with Starforce.
We'd have been better off if EA had managed to take over the company.
