  3. Shift Worker on Late To Bed, Early To Die? Night Owls May Die Sooner (livescience.com) · · Score: 4, Interesting

I worked rotating shifts for fifteen years. One location changed shifts every week, another changed monthly. It was terrible. There were times that I didn't know if it was six AM or six PM. I couldn't eat at night because my stomach wouldn't digest food at two AM and when I had breakfast at seven AM and went to bed I would experience GERD. Now my sleep times are mostly normal.

  10. My manager often called me to come in on my day off. There were 5 people to cover 5 different schedules. Sometimes I would work because the time and a half pay or comp time was good. Other times I'd unplug my phone because the ring or answering device would wake me. There are times when people need that mental health break or to be able to have time with family and friends, to goto a movie or to dinner.

During the summer the room would get warm and I installed a window air conditioner. More noise. I slept for four hours then woke up. I still wear a sleep mask and sometime use earplugs at night.
