And yes, I'm going to ignore the low-hanging fruit about whether some US states would fall under such a ban if it were instituted on less than a country-wide basis.
I'm not the one talking about invisible non measurable properties or categories. You'll have to ask him.
I think genetically human embryos would be human. He doesn't, apparently. Not sure why.
I pick up a pizza for the family on the way home from work fairly often.
I don't even call, much less go online.
Sounds like this tells us about online behavior...
The other thing that comes to mind is: isn't 7PM like, the evening meal time in many countries? How is "getting something for dinner" the same as "foraging"?
... to get the meat junkies off their fix. The eco-balance of meat is truely abysmal. Like just a few notches short of plutonium or something. If we could switch to a substitute without anybody noticing, that would be awesome and also finally get anti-biotics out of meat production and back into healthcare, where they belong. That would also get agriculture back into sane waters.
I'd be very happy to eat a meat substitute that fulfilled all the functions of meat (including tasting good) and didn't require animals to be killed.
If this turns out to be it, great, if not, I hope they keep working on it.
To my way of seeing it, Musk's move is really creepy. It's one plutocrat talking to another plutocrat about the uppity 'help' needing a yank on the leash.
But apparently as long as someone is disliked by the cool kids, doing anything to them is acceptable.
Or might it be because the GUI people have to justify their paychecks? How long has it been since the GUI problem, with the type of hardware generally used, has been solved? 15 or 20 years?
I think this is a factor in a lot of fields. Change for change's sake.
For example, we have to reinvent grade school education all the time. After all, the tried and true methods won't get anybody their PhD with "original research".
What I find especially odd is most of his supporters are old enough to have been cold warrior types. It'd be one thing if Putin wasn't ex-KGB. There wasn't much in Russia to fear (they were pretty blasted out by WWII) but their KGB seemed to know damn well what they were doing.
What I find odd is that the old white leaders of the Dems today were all giving Russia big wet sloppy kisses while Putin was still KGB and while Russia literally was a communist dictatorship with gulags and everything.
This has nothing to do with AWS auto-scaling. The system that had issues doesn't run in public AWS. I can't say more than that unfortunately, but some random professor speculating based on leaked posts without any knowledge of the actual systems involved is a terrible source of information.
So, we're the mumbo jumbo people, because we won't chant along with you that these particular biologically-human human embryos are not really human because hand waving?
No, you're the mumbo jumbo people because you think some invisible sky daddy is miracling a magical "soul" thingy into a petri dish.
Really?
Because I believe that a human embryo is human, because of biology, regardless of what intentions it was created with, I'm the irrational one?
I think the core of the argument boils down to 'what is and what is not human', and since this is new, the one side could easily use the 'looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, therefore it's a duck' argument; doesn't matter if you assembled it molecule by molecule, if it's indistinguishable from a naturally-occurring human zygote, then it's the same regardless, and (to follow the pro-lifer thought train) therefore it could be a 'vessel' for a human 'soul', and 'experimenting' on it is therefore an atrocity and a crime against God. Keep in mind the driving force behind the pro-life movement is the idea that humans need to have as many babies as possible, regardless of the consequences, so that all the souls in Heaven can be born. That's how these people think.
The whole point of inducing it to form would be that is is a human embryo.
So, we're the mumbo jumbo people, because we won't chant along with you that these particular biologically-human human embryos are not really human because hand waving?
Hold on a second. You mean using artificial embryos which don't come from real eggs and sperms also constitutes "killing unborn babies"?
The process is created exactly to *prevent* real embryos from being used for experimentation.
I'd call this progress in the right direction - this will *save* millions of innocent unborn babies by using artificial, not real, embryos.
If the anti-abortion and/or "no playing God" crowds still protests about this, I'd call it goalpost moving.
That makes no sense to me.
If you induce a human embryo to develop from human cells, then what you have is a human embryo. Implanted, it would develop and mature.
The whole point is that you want to experiment on human embryos. So it's a human embryo.
You haven't solved any ethical problems at all. You've just found another hand waving way to try to say that these human embryos aren't human, because argle fargle.
Everything could be made secure. But it isn't and it's not going to happen anytime soon either. Not until people start dropping dead, and by then there will be so many insecure devices that instead of fixing the problem it's cheaper to make a Draconian example of the "hacker". This is already happening, the horse has bolted from the stables, and we CAN'T close the door, so now we crucify the person who finds the horse.
Well... to play devil's advocate, stealing horses actually is illegal.
We don't just shrug and say "oh well, you should thank the horse thieves for testing your security. This should lead to stronger barn doors."
The answer is obvious. The goal is transparent. The push is to replace characters we have loved with more politically correct equivalents.....not to write badass stories with compelling plots.
Precisely.
Analogous in another area: Boy Scouts. Did they build an alternate scouting organization that was compelling enough to thrive? No, they did a basically hostile takeover of the existing one. Because "see, we own it now, ha ha lulz". That's the actual point of it.
Then why do so many of them come here? Why do they protest so much if denied entry at the border? Why do people risk their lives, and the lives of their children, to cross deserts, rivers, and seas, in hopes to put their feet on American soil?
Well, because we are eeeeevil, of course! Don't you imbibe pop culture and know that?
Of course millions would want to come here because we are so racist and evil.
You people seem to assume that this act's list of endangered species actually is built upon sound science.
So a review of this is certainly a good idea.
That being said, we all know what interests drive this so I don't expect a sensible outcome either...
Of course it was!! Heretic!
One party is the party of sweet reason, the other is the party of eeeeeevil. Didn't you know that?
(The sweet reason party is the one that doesn't believe that a sexual species actually has distinct sexes, BTW. Or that the brain is affected by genetics. It can get confusing...)
Does the /. zeitgeist even have a pulse anymore?
You know it's wrong, even if it favors your political tribe. Really, you do know it.
And yes, I'm going to ignore the low-hanging fruit about whether some US states would fall under such a ban if it were instituted on less than a country-wide basis.
Dearborn, you mean?
Hundreds of Twitter users took to the platform to share both their anger with the piece and their love for libraries.
Hundreds! Hundreds, mind you!
(I love libraries; that just struck me as funny.)

No, they do it because that's how they were raised. People's "tastes" form at a young age.
(not seeing the slaughter also helps, I think if a few more kids saw an animal being killed it would make a big difference)
I was wondering why vegetarianism was rampant when we all lived on farms, and so rare now.

Wow - the Slash-geist is in favor of doxxing. Wild.
Doxxing is not cool. I don't care if the guy is the world's biggest liar and jerk. Ignore him or prove him wrong, don't call his boss. Sheesh.

Why not? The private dog food tastes better?
"It's so ... white!" he said. "Like, white buttons and text on a white background. It's so white that light just seems to fall out of it!"

Well, if scientists cannot experiment with real embryos due to ethical concerns, the logical thing is to experiment with simulated ones.
Progress needs to be made and the "shouldn't be playing God" mentality cannot have it both ways by ever expanding what's considered a real embryo.
"Simulated"?
These would be real human embryos, created by an unusual method.
A "simulated" embryo would be a computer simulation or something.
Hold on a second. You mean using artificial embryos which don't come from real eggs and sperms also constitutes "killing unborn babies"? The process is created exactly to *prevent* real embryos from being used for experimentation.

This doesn't solve any moral dilemmas. If you can induce human embryos to come about then those are still human.

They also do bad software and failed projects!
They should feel right at home here then.
You don't hear about people who are relatively happy in Europe or richer Asian countries and aren't clamoring to go to the US.
You can't hear them over the clamor of the millions pounding at our gates.
Then why do so many of them come here? Why do they protest so much if denied entry at the border? Why do people risk their lives, and the lives of their children, to cross deserts, rivers, and seas, in hopes to put their feet on American soil?
