Around the shop, we used to gamble for sodas, with coin flips being the deciding "random" element.
I didn't buy a lot of sodas for others. I did drink a lot of free sodas.
Coin flips are certainly controllable by a skilled throw. I expect this is why at sporting events, someone other than the coin-tosser attempts to predict the result while the coin is in the air.
The guy from HR pulled me aside and told me I needed to start disabling the VPs accounts on the machines I controlled since they were going to sack him in an hour or so. He put me into a really awkward position, since I ended up seeing the VP before HR (he was asking why he couldn't log into the servers). I sort of stood there for a few moments with a stunned look and informed him the HR guy was looking for him.
Here, they pull the future former employee into an HR meeting and tell IT simultaneously. We tell HR that their access has been disabled, then HR has security take the former employee outside.
Slightly less stressful, and an option you might be able to suggest if you're ever stuck in this unenviable position.
The simple fact is: robots don't explore space, people do, and when they do it through a robot they're doing it from boring desk.
And of course, people who play video games would never be able to relate to watching a screen and manipulating a set of controls to elicit a particular response.
Networks are systems. Systems are not always networks. It may take a sysadmin longer to figure out the wiggly details that a netadmin would just know (from specializing and doing it all day long), but it should not be impossible.
Don't feel too bad; a lot of people don't understand why trying to do Wake-on-LAN to an IP address doesn't work for more than 15 or 20 minutes after power-off.
Or to have a debit card draw off a separate account.
The minor hassle of having to make a transfer from one account to another before making a large purchase is offset by not having a compromised account number possibly draining the main account.
Amazon keeps their wares in a warehouse, where they don't have to pay taxes on goods that are just sitting there.
Last I checked, property taxes do cover business inventory - be it in a distribution warehouse, factory, or retail store.
What, good security types don't work for $40k?
Still, it's impressive that he was doing this on a IIe 5 years before they were released.
Are all of you who work for asshole-bosses also assholes?
A lot of them are, yes.
Parent is not offtopic. Everybody dies. It's just a question of when.
Ethyl alcohol doesn't exactly taste good.
This is a lie. It's delicious.
Then again, some people like cilantro. Preference in tastes vary.

If I need a wheel invented, I'd rather hire someone who has invented wheels before and has a good idea of how it's done.
We can sort out the details with the patent attorneys later, but I'd like my wheel tomorrow.
Don't forget the simple english version. Often takes a few tries to get a long article, but also enjoyable. http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
Surprising.
There, there - it's all right. I'm sure everyone knew what you meant.
Tpyos are a pet peeve of mine.
... or maybe even Rockbox Doom.
It is kind of disturbingly cool to play Doom on an audio player, even if the controls are a touch clunky.
He wasn't enjoying the pictures; he was studying them, to learn every supple delicate curve and fold of skin.
They even said they only stored the pics to study them.
1 space between sentences on Twitter and SMS, and probably any other highly space constrained mode.
2 everywhere else, as it should be.

In other words, PayPal is not for people who travel internationally a great deal. Rather, it is designed for the other 99% of the public.
This guy's insightful. +1 in my book.

Running that pig through the MICR code reader is a bitch though, and the routing number doesn't always scan.
When the cleaning crew comes by to empty my trash cans, I thank them.
Every time I'm working late and they come to my cube.
Networks are systems, but systems are not always networks.
And 7proxies, too.
Well played.
Just as I lose points for quoting it, you lose points for admitting you recognize it.
