    Ah, so you reckon the summary wasn't talking about space as in "all that regions outside the Earth's atmosphere" but was talking about space as in "the limitless three-dimensional expanse where all matter exists" just so we didn't get confused with lasers that curve through time? :)

    In the UK at least, the rule is that you should always leave enough space between you and the car in front to be able to stop without rear-ending him.

    Even if the guy in front of you slammed his breaks on, you should have left enough room so that you could stop safely.

    What if it wasn't a yellow light he was stopping it but a kid stepping out into the road?

    I imagine that the type of stupidity you need to program varies a lot depending on the type fo game/AI you're programming.

    For instance, for a chess-type program, I could imagine calculating all the possible moves, ranking them as to strength and then using a level-based algorithm to pick the final move so that for an easy level, the AI oftens pick a good move but not the best move. More like a human player.

    For a shooter, the first thing is to restrict the AI to the same capabilities as the human i.e. no seeing through walls (unless the character has this ability!), no super-accurate aiming, no instantaneous reaction to events, no ability to see you at a ridiculous distance, and so on. It would also be fun to have the various AI opponents as different skill levels so if you start shooting a squad of soldiers, some react well and some react more stupidly. That way, you need to recognise the better soldiers and pick them off first. The reacting stupidly doesn't have to be unrealistic. They could panic and run away, drop their guns and fumble and so on.

    and things to which I'm accustomed - like using the command line - are not at all intuitive to the Windows user.

    The linux/unix command line interface isn't intuitive to anybody! It has to be learned - it can't be "intuited".

    with useful options like:

    What you call barbarism I call self-defense. You don't respond to a terrorist attack by filing a lawsuit -- you respond by killing and/or imprisoning those responsible.

    And as many as possible of those not responsible as well, judging by American, British, Israeli, etc. tactics... after all, what's a few 1000 collateral damage as long as you get the bad guy...

    of course, we're comparing a cheap family car with an upmarket one, but quite honestly, neither seems to be designed with a great deal of taste. If anything, the Honda looks a little more stylish without all the 1970s faux-walnut trim. ;-)

    Surely it would be better stated as:

    "I'll respect your copyright rights as long as you respect mine"

    So, you stop extending copyrights to ridiculous lengths and stop using DRM to restrict my fair use rights, and I won't pass copies to my friends or buy bootlegs from dodgy street vendors.
