  1. Take Some Time Off on What Do You Do When CS Isn't Fun Any More? · · Score: 2, Redundant

This isn't something that's exclusive to CS but rather all fields, burnout. Take some time off, go outside, take a trip. After a couple of weeks or months you may find yourself itching for the keyboard. If not, do whatever makes you happy. If you don't know what that is, find it and do it.

Just look at the 5 main steps that are listed, each one is covered in the 3 year old Oreilly book.

I haven't read the PDF, but what information does it provide that isn't readily available on the net for $0? Seeing how there are plenty of articles and resources available for free, why should I pay $24 to download a PDF? I guess its convenient for "suits" who are not web-savvy enough to be able to research wireless from readily available and free web sources.

Why bother with expensive KVM switches? I looked in to getting on these while back when I added a 5th box. First of all, the cabling is usually not included and can cost just as much if not more than the switch itself. Anyone who has a lot of boxen lying around also tends to have a plethora of old keyboards and monitors. Even if you don't why bother with a switch when you can just SSH in or for windows use winxp remote desktop? I guess KVM switches are great in situations where space comes at a premium or you have a lot of cash burning a hole in your pocket.

The rest of the updates are unecessary language packs. I think a lot of people would be willing to download a 217 meg update. If you don't have a cable modem at home, download it at work and burn it on CD. As for cost, ever hear of mirrors? Besides, Apple should take responsibilty and the bandwidth hit to fix the buggy software releases. Using the bandwidth rational then I guess Linux distros should start charging for downloads and what about Windows Update?

Here at Penn State everyone has to take an English class called English 202 which covers resume writing and researching. Plus it is specific to your major, English 202D is for business, English 202C for Liberal arts, etc. Interviewing skills and networking should be included in a mandatory class.

I took a great class called MGMT 424, Interpersonal relations in organizations. This class taught you how to deal with interoffice politics, how to deal with irate customers and employees. How to network and how to express your opinions without rubbing off the wrong way. Overall, I feel it was the most useful class I had in college.

Just about every OEM windows pc has all those features listed if the configuration includes a CD burner and DVD. Windows XP has all of those features with the exception of DVD playback but why would anyone need DVD playback when every DVD drive you buy includes a player? Plus, many of the newer DVD's include their own software player.

Maybe if they were trying to market this book for the slashdot crowd, but the fact is most mainstream IT people don't know about the whole "hacking vs. cracking debate" and I don't see anything changing soon. Hacking was picked up as a way to describe computer crime in the mid-80's by the media. If the book was titled "Cracking Linux Exposed" it would not sell nearly as well as "Hacking Linux Exposed."

The fact is that most of these new domain names are too much money and don't have the recognition value of .com . When people think of the Internet and domain names in general, they think of .com. The only reason why anyone would want to buy any of the new TLD's is to protect against cyber squatters and only corporations or people with deep pockets will attempt that since there is a plethora of new TLD's. There are the other ICANN-unapproved new.net domain names that require a special plug-in to work. I doubt anyone is registering new.net domain names since your audience would be severely limited.

The fact is a lot of these new games don't reward you for a good performance. There are plenty of examples out there, especially a lot of these new 3D racing games. You get the fastest time and then it ASK'S you for more quarters to continue???

Old arcades were fun because if you were good or did pretty well the game would continue. A good example of this is a game I bought a few years ago, Ironman Ivan Stewart's Off-Road. Off-Road is really easy to learn, there are 3 controls:

    • Steering Wheel
    • Gas Pedal
    • Nitro Button
The best part about Off-Road is that if you win the race, you play for free plus you get to modify your truck to go faster. In the old days, a good Off-Road player could stay on for at least 20 minutes with one quarter. Name a game made in the last couple of years where you can do that?

Smart card technology has thrived in Europe for over ten years and lagged in the US for a reason, infrastructure. The current model for credit cards in the US works fine because of our standardized telcom infrastructure. Europe has a variety of systems so the centralized server model for checking credit cards wasn't a viable option 10 years ago so that's where smart cards came in to play. The most visible US credit card with "smart card" technology is Amex's blue. An Amex blue card has been sitting in my wallet since their debut, but I have yet to use its "smart card" technology yet.

I have two Desktop systems (both Athlon) and they have turned out great, I haven't had one problem yet and the performance has been fantastic. The reason the Duron only accounts for a small percentage of AMD's sales is because the price difference between an Athlon and Duron is down to the single digits. A few months ago Durons were a good value when the high end Athlons were over $500 dollars, but now there isn't a big enough price gap to justify purchasing a Duron over an Athlon.
