I can understand the tech behind this that's cool, but is it something we really need? What will the humans be doing, drinking cokes and eating some pizza? we're big enough already, I'd rather see tech going to improve the antiquated dewey decimal system.
It's strange that after so many years of making great computer hardware Apple's niche is almost redefined for them via a glorified walkman. No, that's not flamebait, but merely an oversimplification. Still, this is part of Steve's overall 'digital hub' theory, so the Macs still fit in, it just feels like they're getting a bit more out of focus compared to the extranious hardware.
thanks for the response, I think I know what I should aim for now. With how cheap boxes are these days I'm really tempted to slap something together, but I think I should spend a bit more for an AMD64 later this year.
How does this equate to an AMD64 chip? I know they can run 32bit apps, but how fast would a 2Ghz AMD64 chip run Doom3 vs a new Pentium 3.2Ghz?
I still have a 1.2Gig AMD box at home with 512Megs RAM, and I want to know which upgrade path will give me better gaming (and email checking;)) performance.
This makes complete sense, looking at how PHP has taken so much of the bloat out of server side scripts compared to ASPs megahousal approach. Add in the fact that PHP is free/open and continuously developed, it could be a no brainer; if the market(ing?) allows for it!
How does one update from PHP4.x to PHP5.0? I'm running Drupal/Squirrelmail and the like at home, and want to see the diffs between the two, as well as understanding how to update them.
actually I totally agree with you. As someone who has run Linux as a desktop since RedHat 6.0, I had fun learning all the ins and outs of Mac OS X, via the help on MacOSXhints site, and IRC channel. Helpful folks that obviously aren't afraid of the command line.
I had to walk a newbie through it's UI the other day to burn an ISO - damn, talk about a UI that needs an overhaul. don't get me wrong, it's all I use when I need a GUI burner, and I'm responsible for burning all of our code and apps for distribution, so I like it, bu tit could use some...useability.
But don't get me started on the apps we produce...blech!
If anyone has spent any time on Macslash, you know that this isn't true. Most Mac folks that have been Mac folks for a long time, have no clue or interest in running anything Unix related on or with OS X. Pll that are running OS X that come from a Linux background are much more adept, and less apt to only do things via a gui that has 'lickable' buttons.
I've got some old OCZ (PC150!), but I've always liked them, their chips and their service. Cool to see them win the 'high-end' though not a surprise, I think they sell the best RAM out there today.
Anytime you see a 'smaller guy' win something, it's always a nice thing.
seriously, vi is where it's at. If you can admin Linux with just vi, you're on your way to taking any Sys Admin type gig. I ran SuSE 9.1 the other day at work on a sandbox rig, YaST totally got in my way, and when I wanted to install apache2, nope, couldn't find the dependancies. Uh, thanks!
So yeah, if you're running Slackware/Gentoo/Debian like me, learn vi, and start editing those conf files.
While not the only thing to consider, is a similarly equip'd system cheaper than one with XP on it? I'm just wondering what 'value' joe user will see when considering Linux. Unfortuantely a cheaper price will need to lead the way.
Additionally if you can order boxen with Linux, then you SHOULD be allow to order 'naked' boxen from Dell, with no OS present. Currently you CAN do this, but only through their 'small business' section.
That's how I'd like to do it, but if I have to get Linspire on it, that'd be fine, I'd just need to do a fresh Slackware install once the box was in my hands.
strong comeback, perhaps you're 16. as for my 'fucking problem', I can see beyond what you see there, I see a girl that needs too much attention for her own self worth. a needy sole like that will never make a good mate. beauty comes from within, and then appears to us; I see no beauty there.
Ceren is soooooooooooooo cute. you must be blind, or 15. either way, you're dead wrong. take some advice, get out of your parents house more often, and stop wearing so much black.
I too am annoyed by the same. Texas is a big state, we have many different regions so to stereotype us all as cowboys is the same as stereotyping all Californias as Jeff Spicoli surfers, "Whoa dude!"
I do like going to resturants/bars in CA and not having any smoking however...
I give shout outs and props to Anti-slash for all of their work. Special props to faker, he says things like I would.

that article was annoying.

So I stand corrected.

One of the Fedora developers sneezed! Quickly slashdot his blog now!
(j/k, it just seems like a new test release doesn't warrant a mention, perhaps on OSNews)

It's funny cause it's true. I just saw Leslie downtown two weeks ago actually when I was on 6th meeting a pal at Lovejoys.

but it was in my book titled "OS X: The Missing Manual" and I can't find it.
