I'll admit it, when OS X was announced I thought, "Oh wow, that sounds perfect, I guess I'll dump Linux (at least for desktop work) and go the OS X way." Once the Betas started appearing I had time to play around with it at a consultant gig I had and I realized, although it was a nice GUI with the console for your, it wasn't as *free* feeling as Linux. There are plenty of examples, but in Linux I can choose what I want installed, how I want things to look, act, etc, and in OS X there are just too many things that you *can't* do.
Mac users flame me if you want, but I prefer to hear some... Ok, that line was a joke! Still, it comes down to personal preferace. I thought I'd have the guilt mentioned in the article, but I didn't; I prefered Linux and even bought an iBook just to put Gentoo Linux on. It's oh, so nice.
I've seen the same thing, running Firebird 0.7 too. It seems rare and goes away with a reload, but still, points to some problem. I suspect it has something to do with one of the ad sizes.
I just found out about this a few weeks ago, it changed my plans of rebuilding my current box; for 319$ (or a little more) I can have a ~2.6Gig box with those nice/quiet Dell cases. The fact that I don't have to buy MS on it turned me around, it'll be our new main workstation running Gentoo Linux.
Next I'll think about replacing my server! At ~300$ I can't afford not to upgrade!
This is a good point, considering how much of an impact goatse.cx has on/. postings, you'd think this would be more important to the readers. Of course if they're not reporting on it {insert conspiracy theory here}.
Of course I started a chain of emails to try to get them to start using a Gentoo topic icon (since they have em for all of the other distros, including Caladra) to no avail. I sometimes wonder who's running the show around here.
Er, the topic is about Intel, I honestly think that there are more important issues we should be addressing. My posts here are simply a small ripple in the ocean that is/. with all of it's goatse.cx, gnnas and fps post.
still, I appreciate your candor, and will drop the commentary for now.

exactly! so what if he gets excited about his convictions, he's passionate and has a pulse, I think that would be a refreshing change for this country vs what we've been living through with the ever smirking Bush.
offtopic, perhaps, but something that I feel is being overlooked; esp after the changing of the WMD asertion.

Thanks, you've said a mouthful, and I totally agree with you. Next ppl need to be educated about how Gentoo is not totally unstable; things change, and the Gentoo project has matured very rapidly in the past year. I'm currently running gs-sources (gs == gentoo-stable) kernel on my server, with only -x86 (stable) packages and sane USE flags. It's as solid as any other Linux thank you.

Thanks for posting this, I heard this on NPR this morning, and wished I could find it to share. I'm a Dean backer by the way, I think this is the kind of passion is what our country needs (though I suspect most think Kerry is more 'presidential').
don't forget new tactics like sites that won't display their content if you DON'T allow popups from their site; NY Times being an example of this type of behavior. I know, you can't have something for nothing, and they make money on their ads, but still, there should be some middle ground, otherwise it's just time to start blocking all URLs that server ads.

ssshhh! thanks for the update, but please, be _quiet_ about it!

ssshhh! that joke was already posted above.

I've never _heard_ of this power supply! (get it?)

Already fixed in Gentoo too, got the GLSA email last night.
Seems that fixing the Yahoo connecting issues caused a bunch of holes.

Please go back to watching Fox news now, catch ya later!
