I work in the construction industry and instruct our guys that work on site to blast the openings of their laptops/computers with canned air at least once a month.
I get them "spill proof" keyboards as those are sealed and keep things from getting deep in the keyboard. Just turn it upside down and shake it. Plus you can wash them if you really want them clean.
I find that there isn't much more you can do. The sand/dust causes extra wear and tear and the equipment will have to be replaced more often. I buy the "full coverage" warranty for equipment that will primarily be used on construction sites and it pays for itself when you constantly have to replace burnt out PSUs, video cards and CPUs that overheat and die due to clogged fans..
GOOGLE: "PowerMeter is free software that displays details of home energy consumption received from either a smartmeter or another electricity monitoring device."
vs.
MICROSOFT: "After signing up for Hohm with your Windows Live ID and Postal Code, you simply enter some information about your home (for example, occupants, appliances and systems) and you will receive your energy report with personalized recommendations. The more information you provide, the more accurate and relevant the recommendations will be."
Give them Ubuntu. Out of the box it's similar in look and feel to windows. If you want it to look like OS X then install AWN and Compiz (or if their system is old/slow turn on Metacity instead of Compiz) and the advanced effects thing (I forget what its called but it lets you make those squishy windows and the cube for switching between workspaces and lots of other effects.
Exactly. If I have 500GB of blank media then I paid 500GB worth of levy purchasing it and I will happily fill it up with 500GB of data. Copyright holders can go see whoever collects the levy for their cut. I'm sure as hell not paying twice.
The way I see it is on one hand you're paying for ONE news source and on the other hand you can go to Google News and at a glance see news from MULTIPLE news sources both locally and around the word.
These days we also get a lot of great personal accounts/coverage from normal people in their blogs, podcasts, websites, twitter, etc.
A couple months ago I saw a fire near my apartment. I search the name of the street on Twitter and there were tons of tweets describing what was going on with pictures, warning people that the street was closed, the air was thick with smoke and to steer clear. It wasn't until hours later during their 6pm evening news that the news corps reported on it.
Personally, I've always felt this problem is somewhat escalated on the Mac because it's not as obvious what is all currently running.
On Mac OS, the Dock includes both running and non-running programs, and because it's a document based operating system, closing the window doesn't end the program, you have to specifically go to the menu bar and exit.
For a Mac user it is obvious and when they switch to Windows they wonder why when they try to close one window every other window with that app closes too.
Whichever one you're used to, the other seems "different"
Some of my favs, in no particular order:
1) Chemistry set
2) Electronics set
3) Rocket kit (build and launch)
4) RC Plane kit (build and fly)
5) One really cool gift was a big kit with a toolbox, various wood, paint, and a book of all the different things you can build. Things like a wooden clock (it included the electronics part, you just built the face and painted it). A bird house.
Yes, some very insightful comments there. Too bad I'm all out of Google mod points:
I used to work here. One of the employees got caught after he put a camera in the woman's washroom. There was a bunch of kiddie porn on his computer. But he was a relative of the owner so he got to keep his job as long as he did some BS counseling. As far as I know he still works there.
And:
I don't know what other people are writing about; I went to this theater and they were able to unify the Middle East, cure world hunger, turn lead into gold, and even got rid of my friend's horrible case of lip herpes. Everyone should see movies here because all the reviews are true. Even this one.
And also:
The management staff here tried to sell me meth and then threatened my life when I refused.
Hell something that simple...why would they need to steal GPL code, unless they got themselves a seriously lazy programmer/contractor?
The real question is why waste your time reinventing the wheel when you can take GPL code for *FREE*?? All you have to do is give credit and release your modifications (if any). Especially when you're trying to make the world believe that you are a friend to the open source community.
"Despite what their Facebook status says, we broke up with Apple first."
The alternative was them not doing anything and then months later we see a story about how "ClamAV silently stops support. Virus outbreaks ensue."
It will be different this time:
Astronaut: Hello R2.
R2: BEEP BEEP BLOOP CHIRP
*Astronaut looks confused*

They're extremely different.

"Autonomous Exploration for Gathering Increased Science"
Is much better than the other proposed name:
"Cultural Learnings of Mars for Make Benefit Glorious Planet of Earth"
Exactly, you should have to screw the motherboard into the case, plop in the CPU, apply thermal, stick the heatsink on, put in the PSU, etc etc.
This is like buy a prebuilt Dell and upgraded the RAM.
So each cell has it's own this.getSexualOrientation() function.
Whereas mammals have a global static variable where SEXUAL_ORIENTATION = MALE or FEMALE.
This is interesting because I thought we all inherited from a common ancestor. Was sexual orientation not defined in the root class?
Antivirus XP 2010
Who cares about throttling. Why isn't your data on a file server? Especially if there's intentions to share it.

Slashvertisement. Nothing to get. No benefit to you anyways. Too bad adblock doesn't block these fake news stories.

The levy is currently 24cents for audio cassettes and 29cents for CDs.
Kinda expensive if you DONT download/copy media. Gotta get my moneys worth!
The vehicle was stolen while the officer was inside.
Sleeping in the back seat again?

I have 3 racks of gear and 1.5 racks of UPS. It's kinda ridiculous but I get around 1.5-2 hours of full server room power.
:D
I got one full UPS rack at a firesale last year when the economy tanked
It's ok, there's another company with an even better electric car. I'm heavily invested, you should consider it as well. Electric car
(The same thing happened to modems decades ago; at 300 baud, you heard tones; at 9600 baud and up, it sounded like white noise.)
BEEEEEEP, CHIRP, CHIRP, KTWANG, shhhhhh, SHHHHHHH!!!

disabling any backup software will improve "performance and avoid unnecessary conflicts" as well.
I didn't RTFA but I assume that they're whalers on the moon and they carry a harpoon.
