    Instead of discussions about how a car without need for a cockpit would eventually look, or the handling of a car where brakes, power and possibly even wheel direction could be modulated to each of the wheels differently I see a bunch of upvotes on why it will be boring. Some sad $%#!

    I'd rather be a dick than run a logical fallacy marathon that equates a couple couple of guys that want to build and race autonomous cars with the end of racing. Perhaps just wanted to run your mouth or farm upvotes.

  8. Actually knew a guy that got sent home for a week or two(can't remember which) for harassment, and this was on a government contract. Don't forget the person you fire can sue you too. Obviously you have never had a real job either...

    The usual bit-wise arguments on slashdot. You are missing the first rule of racing- that people will race anything. Have you ever been to a real race? There are usually several different classes raced during the event. So there will be a new class for autonomous cars. People will enjoy seeing it for varieties sake.

    First offense: sent home for a week
    Second offense: sent home for a month (hopefully they will spend the time looking for another job)
    Third: shown the door.

    sequencing the human genome cost 100s of thousands of dollars a decade or so ago and it is a few hundred dollars now. I don't see why gene therapy will be expensive.

  18. It's funny how Mac Apologists will rationalize anything Apple does is good. If they sell monitors it's good. If they don't sell monitors it's good too.
    Dell has been successful selling monitors because many people and institutions like being able to buy a complete system in one transaction. Who the heck wants to write two PO's? Apple not having a monitor is just another part of the AppleFail ® program....

    Actually it's the worst time to buy. If interest rates were higher, house prices would be lower and you wouldn't have to carry as much debt and refinance when rates go down. Buying now is a kind of debt trap....

    I am sure though that if this is done by guesses and experience it is still less efficient than a machine planned route. Also they may have previously been getting route plans that violated the rule....

    Not to mention that UPS is at a huge disadvantage from a cost perspective vs USPS, since their infrastructure is already there for mail and the routes are already traveled, not to mention being supported by the taxpayer. Even a pseudo-government organization like USPS can eventually get their act together enough to harm UPS's business.

    As USPS and Fedex have improved their offerings(and they have... usps tracking used to be a complete joke) can you assume that there wouldn't have been a reduction in miles without the change? Suppose shipping across the board cost twice as much. Would their be as many jobs for UPS drivers as there is now? People would just skip Amazon and Ebay if it was that expensive. Your understanding of economics is very simplistic and flawed.

    If UPS can lower their costs it makes their service more attractive and they get more business. Maybe it saved or added jobs?
