My concern with running PocketPC (I've been on Palm OS for 4 years now) is the interface. Is it just a version of Windows made to fit on a PDA, or is it a genuine PDA OS complete with shortcuts for dealing with lack of 1024x768 desktop + mouse + keyboard?
What about software? Do you have to purchase every single application, or is there a good deal of freeware (games, etc.) available?
I've been shopping for a new PDA and it seems that the Dell Axim X5 at $200 beats anything else on the market for features and price. With Palm, for example, you'd have to pay close to $400 for a PDA with color, MP3, SD, CF, etc. and I just can't see spending that much on something that I use for maybe 2 hours a day.
Does this mean the original Halo will be available for the PC?
Doesn't anyone still hold a grudge because Halo was supposed to be the game to take the throne from Tribes on the PC, but was denied from us by the XBox-exclusive release?
For those of you that don't remember, most BBS's would only charge you a "credit" if your download completed successfully. With Leach Z-modem, it would grab the very last packet and then claim that the download failed. You get the file and get to keep your credit!
Wow. I can remember logging in to no less than 3 BBS's to play all of my Trade Wars turns every day. It always sucked to find your fighters destroyed, your planetary defenses overrun, and someone squatting on your planet.
Perhaps one day a gaming company will get multiplayer space battle right. (And I don't mean like Earth and Beyond.)
They covered this on their "junkyard bloopers" show that aired last week. They may be re-running it -- look for it. There is a lot more that goes on behind the scenes than you are aware of.
Yep...you just need a listener on the "outside". Still traceable point to point, they just can't tell what you were doing.

Parks have not caught up with the wireless society. Let's make it happen!
As good as that sounds, I'm sure there are plenty of people who would prefer to keep technology out of our parks. I would hate for the sounds of wind in the trees, children playing, and birds singing to be drowned out by a cell phone symphony. Think about it.
The problem with enabling SSH and HTTPS is that you loose all tracking. Privacy is a good thing until you are running a free service without accountability (as others have noted.) Of course, you could always run SSH over 80 via a proxy...Sounds like they're in for some problems.
Step One: Set up wireless network...
Step Two:
Step Three: Profit
Tired old joke, but it seems to be a popular business model. There are a ton of websites and services with the same idea: give away lots of free stuff with no hope of gaining a profit. Look what happened to AdCritic.

We started our website with just a couple of videos and now have over 80 -- enjoy!
You can! We blow stuff up all the time.
For what it's worth, I documented my experience wiring my home for network and phone here:

Note: This article is now two years old, so technologies like wireless and gigabit ethernet were out of reach.

This video demonstrates what dry ice will do when bottled up. Pretty impressive...wouldn't want to mess with it personally.
Gasp! They could end up doing something like this.
Sounds like fun. :^/ Hope you respawn within the round.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for mods (Counterstrike is by far the best mod of all time), but DoD doesn't even hold a candle to BF1942.
Thanks!
Will there be a http://slashdot.org/slashdotgames.rdf feed?
Ahh...but what about Leach Z-modem?

How can I verify its legitimacy?

*shudder* The way you so casually use the words HomeSec and budget in the same sentence makes me cringe. Sounds like something out of Orwell's 1984.

Perhaps a traffic shaper would be usefull as well to keep one node from eating up all of the bandwidth.
The problem with a free service like this is that it will be free up until the point where someone abuses it.
Perhaps you should watch Animal House.
Way OT, but I love your .sig! Where did it originate from? Did you write it?
