  1. Re:Perspective on Google CEO Confirms Online Payment System · · Score: 1

It was obvious they had to start something like that. Today's micropayment industry isn't developped enough as to match their needs.

Google has many services that could benefit from a working and integrated micro-payment. Google Ads, Google Answers, etc...

And they are not going to give that market to Paypal.

    Look at it:
    - it decreases their payment costs
    - it increases their margin on each transaction
    - it improves their usefulness

Everybody is talking about Google vs Microsoft. I don't see a fight. Google is selling services. Microsoft is selling software, most of which I hope will be commoditized soon (OS, Office). Why do I come back to Microsoft? Because they had started adressing part of the micro-payment problem, using smart cards (i.e. the end user physical object). But their smart card project was quickly and quietly abandonned.

What's funny is that (for example) most dance teachers are gays. So I guess they maybe enjoy their showers more than their heterosexual teachers counterparts! :)

The only advantage I see using eclipse now is because of the many plugins it has. But a year ago, IDEA was still a clear winner. In the last conference I went to, a quick polling (from a Borland guy) revealed that 60% of the users used eclipse, while 30% used IDEA. So people don't have so much problems stumping up for licenses. Maybe it's because I am in an European country. I guess that in other parts of the world, financing has a different impact on such decisions.

With regard to IDEA and plugins, there are many plugins for IDEA too, so it's clearly extensible.

Actually when you think of it, the hard part of an editor is to correctly select an article. Once you've selected one, spending 30 seconds more to review a potential list of duplicate won't decrease quality.

If I was responsible for the site I would monitor more my editor's work. If they can't do their job correctly.

Or let people mark articles as DUPEs. And let me browse slashdot with dupes off by default.
