The lower end tuner cards I have been working with use the pc's sound input and therefore are a hassle to setup multiple cards in a single linux machine. (I've tryed a dual tuner mythtv box) WinXP wasn't able to use them both at all. It seemed to have trouble keeping them straight.
A remote wouldn't be able to distinguish between them if they all use the same signals. Some people think this is a big deal. I would just use a wirelessmouse and/or keyboard.
I share the dream. Am in the midst of building a Mythtv LAN.
My advice is to get cards that capture the sound themselves instead of through the soundcard.
To the orginal poster. This site seems to have a bunch of cool stuff similar to what you want.
Whats the limit to how many PCI slots a cpu can use? is it simply a matter of IRQs in the BIOS? Could a CPU that controls PCI slots independant of the motherboard use a larger number of PCI slots? This could be a huge breakthrough.
Are current windows oses limited to less than 14 irq?
communication between anti viri companies is great, BUT I hope this doesn't turn into a type of "registry" that can be hacked or spoofed and allow networks to be compromised wholesale.
They had an Icee counter at the old Sears store in south minneapolis 20 years ago. I don't know if the store is even open there anymore. 3 or more floors of goods a good old fashioned department store. at the time it was the most boring thing for me to be dragged around by my mom as she shopped most of the time we went there it was to look for shoes for my huge feet or "good clothes" but I always looked forward to an Icee.
might explain my penchant for frozen adult beverages.
software will never be a replacement for technical knowledge. Many products out there tell Joe consumer they can make wonderfull music/logos/dvds using thier $20 software but what they don't tell them is it's still not professional quality. The music mixer can only support 2 tracks or handle a proprietary audio codec and only output to 12kps mp3 (or maybe midi). The logo creation software can't make it's text follow a path and the output resolution is 72dpi. The DVD software only captures video at less than half good old low res tv resolution. All things that get left off the cover of the box. Or even if it gets left on the box, Joe has no clue what they mean so they get it anyway. It reminds me of an info-mercial I saw that said "Thick 24 gauge steel!" (which is slightly thicker than tinfoil)
I got a call from a client that was using a major software publishers title to create something I'm not sure what because the person couldn't tell me if it did images or webpages or documents. So it would have been a miracle if they knew what file formats could be outputed. Which they didn't.
The "dumbing down" of technology can have a downside when none of the output is usefull. An old saying possibly paraphrased "If you make something even an idiot could use only an idiot would want to."
I'd trade my truck for a level editor. (since I'd never leave the house again I wouldn't need it)
I DLed the thief level editor after seeing they used the same engine but it was too much work and took me away from the game so I don't know if it actually worked.
SS2 should just be re-released with new models and higher bit count textures.
thats my 2 cents.
My favorite mod of travel was invisible with a pyro sphere around me. The thing I would forget to look out for was falling debris from stuff getting burnt.
I have heard of American courts ruling that speed limits that were routinely not enforced were no longer valid and could not be selectivly enforced(but this was a long time ago.
In Germany many driving fines (if not all) are a percentage of the violators income based on how important the infraction is. A logical penalty that makes a fine as much of a deterant to higher income as lower income. Drivers licenses are also more expensive and can be lost easier in Germany.
The article raises the question if memory would be better in the Iram or in system memory. I say it's better in both. Windows sucks at memory allocation and hits the pagefile too often. So yes add RAm to your system TOO but it will always take a performance hit accessing the pagefile on a mechanical drive.
The place where I think solidstate hds are most necesary is when working with a database. Much like a suspected government system speculated on/. last year.
Another nice use for the Iram would be my Photoshop and Illustrator pagefiles.
an OS installer (Program) should be able to figure out disk paths a little better.
I am currently running a RAID 0 array on the mobo's IDE controller. 4 ata 133 disks (Sisandra says it's %14 faster than a 2 disk sata150 striped raid and it's cheaper). To get this to happen I have XP installed on a hd on a PCI IDE controller because tho i could boot from a CD on said controller the windows installer program couldn't find the cd it was booting from. So I installed from the cd on the mobos controller to the hd on the pci controller then moved the optical drives to the slave channel on the PCI controller and setup the RAID on the mobo. leaving me slightly unhappy because I was looking froward to booting from the RAID.
my boss just called me in to fix a usb drive that had been "malfunctioning" since last night. I plugged the powersupply in and "wah lah" I danced around him while he flipped me off.
re: no licensing for PCs, "no one" (statistically compared to cars) dies from computer missuse. but I would agree that shouldn't preclude ppl learning about what they use. I mean it's 2000 freakiing 5 and ppl i work with who have been using PCs for 12 years barely know what drag and drop mean!
i of course was speaking about a single known instance.
this specific machine was running win ME and had a 1ghz cpu with 128mb and 16 meg video. so with all the adware there was no chance in hell it would boot in 5 minutes.
this "5 minute fix" B.S. further enforces the impetus to dispose of an older computer.
I say it's B.S. because the more training one has in fixing computers (and the newer the machine) the more likely it can be fixed quickly. so the speed in fixing should be worth more. I mean really would you pay more to fix an old gremlin waiting a week to get the part or to fix a corvette whose parts are more likely to be in stock?
Last christmas I upgraded a win95 machine to win98 for someone for $50. the hard drive was so slow that it took hours to restore thier data (10 gigs of MP3s) to thier disk. I won't be doing that again.
300 is only worth it if your computer is fixed AND you get to keep your data.
because the geek squad @ Best Buy is charging little old ladies $300 to "fix" thier PC (when it needs rescueing from spyware) and simply add a spyware detector but not actually use it.

All fans blowing out. Coupled with sealing every hole except for one side replaced with previously mentioned AC filter.
blue raspberry was my favorite.

Google is providing the suers with a service. The service of finding the people that are infringing on thier copywrite.

the only people (or view) i cannot tolerate is the intolerant.
I meant as a scale for pricing. Not that they don't honor it.

I thought this was a dupe. but it's not QUITE a dupe.
