There is no such thing as a limit of bandwidth on a fiber optic line. It is theoretically infinite. If you run out of bandwidth then you start broadcasting another signal down the exact same line. Think of using a flashlight to send morse code. Then you need to send it faster, so you have a second flashlight that is a different color sending at the same time. Twice the information.

Is it still 50% more efficient, after you add in the energy required to "heat and pressurize and treat" the fuel? All of that must be factored into the efficiency of an energy producing engine. If it is indeed true that they have gotten 50% more efficiency, then that would put the internal combustion engine (which has an average of 14% efficiency) to 21% efficiency. Wind turbines are 33%. I am still amazed at the overwhelming use of the internal combustion engine. The only reason why is because for so long oil was so cheap the engines could afford to be inefficient. Well, those days are over my friends.

Should the first Falcon 9 fail, they will learn from it and launch better designs in the future. Orbital still is working on its Taurus rocket. The EELV program (Atlas and Delta) are still pushing strong in the commercial market. If the first Falcon 9 flight fails, it will not be the end all be all of either Obama's current NASA vision, nor America's role in the space program. So please, keep the hyperbole out of the damned summaries guys.

I would like to add an addendum to that. If the Falcon 9 blows up it will not slow the company down at all. These are launches that are paid for. The company is not risking it's own money. This is part of the Demo contract, and several launches have already been paid for and planned.

The Falcon 9 and dragon from day one has been built to exceed human ratings. Everything about it from top to bottom is rated to carry people. Only one thing left to do. Built an escape system.
