It sounds like you are looking for contract programming. The specification of the input is the "contract" that the function enforces. I have done no contract programming, so that description might not be completely accurate; you should research yourself for more info. The poster boy for this school of design is the language Eiffel.
I don't understand what you are trying to prove by providing a definition of republic. I have never heard anyone seriously question whether the United States is a republic or not. What is in question is whether it is also a democracy. You are right that the United States is not a direct democracy, but this is very different than saying it is not a democracy, which was your original claim and is (as you say) only true using an old/ specialized meaning of the word that is clearly not what most of us mean when we use it in discussion.
Also, we (the US) were NEVER a democracy. There has never been a stable democracy on the face of the earth that was able to sustain growth and self-regulate (at least of any meaningful size (country-sized, that is)).
There are several hundred books that address the issue of morality v. legality and I doubt that you have read any of them.
Given that you describe a popular take on highly complex moral issue as being "completely false", I would say the same about you. For example, when Socrates refused to be freed from prison and instead chose to accept his death sentence because violating the law does harm to the state, and the state is like a parent that we must respect, were his beliefs "completely false"? Was his philosophy "non-sense (sic)"? If you want to take the Lyons position on this issue (or maybe something less exreme), that's fine and I would actually agree with you, but being insulting to someone because they take the other side in a philosophical debate thousands of years old is obnoxious and arrogant.
Having him spend some of his time developing social skills rather than doing genius things is a "dangerous waste"? This attitude sounds like the root of the problem.
$50 has been the default price for games on most platforms as long as I can remember, going back to the NES.
As someone upthread pointed out, this wasn't true for the SNES and N64 where some new games cost $60 or $70. Later in its life, N64 prices came back down to $50 to compete with ps titles, but there was definitely a gap between the days of $50 NES games and the days of $50 N64 where the hot new games cost more than that. Less popular and slightly older games were always $50 or less though.
Why not? Free Software isn't allowed to do any marketing? What so the people at KDE shouldn't be proud of their work?
The arugment isn't that the KDE people shouldn't advertise their work, it's that the slashdot front page shouldn't "advertise" their work. An editor easily could have edited the writeup to remove the blatant marketing and simply state the facts (that it's been released, that it supports Low Saxon, etc.).
You omit the critical distinction that while Icelandic is merely an obscure living language, Low Saxon is an obscure living language with a funny name.
Perhaps the question should be: given that you're pirate, why don't you have a parrot, and why don't you go "arrr"? Don't turn the question around to blame others for your failings.
I suppose Windows-standard would be the meaning you were going for
That's not just the meaning for which he was going, that's what he actually said. He said it was the standard renderer for Windows developers, which is the same as calling it "Windows-standard". Your complaints about whether it is standards-compliant is completely irrelevent to whether it is the standard renderer on Windows. If there were five equally used renderers tha all supported W3C standards fully, it would still be the case that none could be called "the standard Windows renderer". And when there is only one, it is the standard renderer, even if it completely fails to comply with W3C standards. These two issues are not related.
Did you read the article?! He spcifically addresses that. He says (paraphrased): "I know that there are programs out there that I could go and download that will get around the problems I describe, but I am only testing what the average user could do with the software that comes with the distro". He's not claiming there's no software available to do this.
You're making the mistake that someone, somehow, magically has the knowledge to identify the "best" distribution to compare against Windows.
Agreed. If they are only testing two distros, then no matter which two they chose, someone would have posted and said "Why did they pick those rather than my favorite distro, which I think is much better?", and been modded up to +5 Insightful.
And the actual house is located out in the middle of nowhere far from my friends, family, job. I would rather live in the city, even if it is slightly less safe or more expensive than live out in the sticks far away from civilization.
Getting a CS degree, ENSC degree, ANY science, a medical degree, is much harder and requires more smarts effort and knowlage.
Are you saying that this is why people have animosity towards MBAs? Because a law degree requires a lot of intelligence and effort, and people don't usually seem to have charitable thinks to say about lawyers.
So there are idiots in the world? There are bad mechanics too.
Of course mechanics aren't infallible. But if you're trying to claim that a non-mechanic is better off doing repairs himself than going to a mechanic, that's ridiculous. Just becuse there are specific cases where a mechanic screws up does not justify drawing the conclusion that mechanics are no better at fixing cars than anyone else. Also, just because there are bad mechanics doesn't mean you have to go to them. If you ask around, it shouldn't be hard to find a good mechanic and go to them instead.
I certainly hope not. Otherwise, any time a company is competing with you, you could just post whatever you want on a website and claim it's a memo from them about illegal activities. I think doing something legally requires a little more evidence than the unverified claims of one anonymous guy.
Data is discrete facts. A datum is a discrete fact.
I didn't know it was possible to buy lawyers at all.
The only thing worse than letting software design be dictated by the courts would be letting it be dictated by a dictionary.

DEMOCRACY:
1 a : government by the people; especially : rule of the majority b : a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections
or
Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives.
Actually, a lot of people complained.
Actually, I have lots of movies that are on a single DVD (each). What the hell are you talking about?
Given that you describe a popular take on highly complex moral issue as being "completely false", I would say the same about you. IMO, use of cartridges wa one of the big reasons the N64 was a better system than the playstation 1.
As someone upthread pointed out, this wasn't true for the SNES and N64 where some new games cost $60 or $70. Video games are a new market? Or do just mean that MS is new to that market?

How about "creation conjecture"? That seems like an accurate description and sounds pretty cool.
Perhaps the question should be: given that you're pirate, why don't you have a parrot, and why don't you go "arrr"? Don't turn the question around to blame others for your failings.

Because microsoft's enemies would certainly never use the courts as a weapon against them.
