going to be much harder to have video games gain the same amount of artistic respect that movies and music have to the general public
Movies and music remove "offensive" things that would have been left in if art was the only consideration all the time. I think that this is especially true of movies which are often edited once they fail to get an R rating since being released as NC-17 or unrated really hurts your ability to distribute to theaters. Please don't interpret this as meaning that I approve of this practice though.
The only really cool thing about it was the media library and that ended up in 2.x
I run winamp 3 now and I like the way the playlist window has two frames, one with current playlist and one with a list of playlists (most of which are albums, for me). I find this really convenient. Is there a way to do this in winamp 2? I haven't used it in a while. Unless, this is the "media library" you refer to, but I don't think so. Also, does winamp 2 support all of the video formats that 3 does? It didn't when I used to use it, but I could imagine that it might now.
Yes, the current version of windows. Hey, it's easy to knock a software product when we look at things that were wrong in all previous versions as well as the version one would be getting today. Do you reply to people who say that new users should buy a Mac rather than Windows by saying that that's bogus since many of it's features are "only available in OS X"?
They don't know what service packs they need to apply, or when to update their drivers,
I guess you haven't used windows in a while, but they have this thing now called Windows Update that automatically tells you when then are new patches you need to install, and can even download them in the background for you (and then let you choose whether to install them, if you want).
Yes, that's what most people in the world (or at least in the US, I haven't spent much time elsewhere) use.
"People keep sending me these emails and the text is in English. And people post in slashdot in English. How am I supposed to understand them? Why can't they write in Esperanto, the truly universal language that everyone knows and loves?" Ok, it would make more sense if that quote were in Esperanto. But I don't know it. Nor does anyone else in the real world. Which is the point.
To me it sounded more similar to what we currently have in outlook. Almost every feature they claim is already there. Examples:
The main device for organizing email, collections are similar to folders in conventional email clients with the following exceptions:
People can customize and set rules to automatically pull items from an in-box and other document sources into collections. Customizing rules can be as arbitrary as the user prefers. People can also manually add and remove documents to and from collections.
How is this first one an exception to current folders? People can curently create rules to file mail and manually move mail to whatever folder they want.
Users are able arrange their collections in any vertical order they choose by clicking and dragging the collection containers.
Not too exciting, I can set my "favorite folders" in any order I want already.
But this has a builtin calenar! Oh wait, I already have that. And it lets you set different colored flags on different emails! How revolutionary. And so forth. I was going to keep going feature by feature but don't have the time, maybe someone else can do it.
The only things I see here that I don't have in very similar form today is the builtin chat and the admittedly cool visualization arcs. Nice new features, but that's hardly "reinventing email".
Really? I stopped respecting them when they came out with the 32x/ 32xcd which they clearly intended to stop supporting as soon as saturn came out, and then did exactly that. Doesn't mean that I haven't bought any of their products (I have a dreamcast with some sega games, including crazy taxi, and the monkey ball games for gc), but I wouldn't say I respect them overall.
It's difficult but seems much less frustrating than marble madness
You're very, very wrong. The master mode/ master mode extra stages (is this monkey ball 1 or 2?) will make you cry. I have watched a friend lose hundreds of lives on one of those (Planets) before finally giving up.
Ninja turtles. Professional wrestling. Transformers. These are the same toys I had when I was a kid. I thought that I would never have heard of whatever kids were playing with now, but I know those. That's so cool.
Images of British sailors with scurvy aside, all it really brings to mind are fruits
Regardless of what stereotypes may exist of people in sailor outfits, that's the uniform they are required to wear, so I think it is highly offensive for you to call them "fruits".
At least in Super Metroid (which I didn't play enough to have an opinion on), you had a map. In the original, it was mostly endless wandering through identical caverns without any indication of what you needed to do. Admittedly, Prime may have went slightly too far in the other direction by "holding your hand" a lot, but it's better than endless, endless wandering with no guidance, hoping to find the one wall you could walk through.
Question: other than the new Zelda and Metroid, what are the best titles out there for the Gamecube that I can't get on my PS2?
In my opinion and that of others I know who have played it as much as I have, Smash Bros. Melee may be the best game of all time. Seriously. However, this requries you to know other people who are also willing to put a lot of time into it and get to a high skill level. The game is so deep that you can play many, many hours and still be learning new things. Like Soul Calibur (haven't play SC II much, though, so can't comment on that).
Also, Eternal Darkness is amazing. Really amazing.
I will buy the entire Talking Heads catalog for $50 instead of going to the store and paying $95
I don't know if this was just a band chosen at random as an example, but if you are serious about getting all the talking heads' stuff, don't forget to buy Stop Making Sense on DVD. I'm in the process of getting now, so I haven't seen it yet, but I have heard from many people that it is amazing, one of (or the) best concert movies of all time.
Who should not use this emblem? If you either promote somebody's product for money or break into other peoples' computers, those of us the emblem was invented for do not want you displaying it.
What's the problem with making money, or trying to do? I dig that he doesn't want to be affiliated with those who "break into other peoples' computers", but what's why does hacking become less noble if you make a living from it? Why are you no longer worthy of using a symbol of hackerdom just because you want to be able to eat?

Apparently not, since it offends Haitians and doesn't offend me.

I know the website has existed since 95, but I had never seen the little task bar app until XP. Has it been around longer?

No one here is endorsing doing that.

I think there are plenty of things that stink that fall in the biology category.
It's smb 2 and also includes the original mario bros. (not to be confused with the original super mario bros.).
Implying that the average person today views Tarzan and Pac Man as great art?
If this topic is on your mind, you need to watch this:

It will change your life.

I guess others agreed with you at one time, since they found it necessary to pass the 18th amendment rather than a simple law.
So why didn't mp3.com just sell them the domain name and trademark and continue its existing service elsewhere under a new name?

Fwiw, I didn't particularly enjoy the original and I still thought metroid prime was absolutely brillant.

My trust in your theory is seriously hampered by the success of The Sims.
