You know. I've got two nice SCO golf shirts that used to be some of my most treasured posessions and I wore them with pride a couple of years back. Now, I want to throw them away and if someone should stop me in the street and ask if I know SCO, I would lie like a Judas and exclaim never to have heard of the company.Hell, I wouldn't even put it on my CV anymore! This is really sad. At least I can continue to wear my "Geek by Nature, Linux by choice" T-shirt with even more pride! It doesn't fit so well anymore though...
I Have a 2 year old Motorola Accompli A008. I just bought it new the other day although it's been available for more than 2 years. It's got a monochrome touch screen with all the normal PDA and phone functions, GPRS,E-mail, WAP, Notepad, Drawing pad etc, plus it can run J2me Java apps like a full HTML browser and games and spreadsheet program. It never hangs, it doesn't have anything that I don't need. And it costs about $100. Now that is a SMART PHONE! Thanks for trying M$, but no thanks.
I don't understand your concept of ripping directly to PC. All my music I rip using a kareoke machine, 10 friends and a microphone and Windows recorder. The quality just never comes out the same as the original. Wow.Your idea is phenomenal!
WTF is it with all the East Africa bashing today??? I'm currently stuck in East Africa (Uganda) intergrating a SUN 4800 for a network management system for a major mobile operator in Africa. 2 weeks ago I was in Tanzania working on a similiar project. America is not the only country that has power you know.
I agree with the previous comment that there's 2 sides to it. It's a difficult one. It's like getting a ex- car-thief to design new alarm systems. With the knowledge that he gained from his profession he might be able to design fool-proof systems , but he will also know how it works and how and where to leave backdoors if required. Also, if something goes wrong with his solution - everyone will blame him and it might not even be his fault!
AMD is a big player in the CPU market, but there are a lot of companies doing memory chips, isn't there? So, why on earth are they doing it? I hope it's viable for them , because they can lose a lot of money if they're not careful. iMHO.
A friend gave me a Knoppix cd on christmas and its one of those gifts that keep giving. Everyone knows its a good idea, but the Knoppix team really made it great.
A Maserati is a car with the same features as most other sports cars, some of the features that some does not have and without some features that most others have. Oh yeah, and it's DAMN ugly!!! Almost like a.., like a... SONY Ericsson or something!
I realized a while back that I played VC WAY too much. When I drive down the street I just keep looking for a bike and I have to force myself not to ram the dude and steal his bike. Another funny thing. The other day me and a friend were talking about games in my garden. He was going on about some RPG and I just said," No thanks, I'd rather be shooting people and stealing cars" just as the neighbors walked past. I got some strange looks...
500 kg of explosives have been stolen from the police evidence warehouse, but none has exploded yet so there's no danger. And crackers and other salty biscuits are making plans to take over the world.
I don't need no stinking high-spec display card in bash. This is not flame-bait but: I use a computer for what it is intended to do. I use my PS2 on the other hand for what it is intended to do and besides, if I want to play games , I want it to run in a stable environment like the PS2.
Me: Hello? Someone: Hi, is this 2..2.0.6.7.4.9.5.1.4.1.e.164.arpa ? Me: Yes. Someone: Did you get my e-mail? Me: Who is this? Someone: Do you want to improve your sex life by having a penis enlargement. Me: I'm sorry , but I already have a large penis.Goodbye. *click*
This is just the type of news that I've been waiting for. Mobile phones have evolved past the stage where they are simply used for making a voice call. With more phones supporting new tech like MMS,EMS, GPRS and HSCSD we need to change the practical uses of phones as well. The phone companies have been trying to get a standard for years now. Symbian seems the best solution so far, with talks of a stripped-down version of Java and even CE on phones. But this is really a cool idea from Motorola and I would buy one for a couple of reasons. One being that I could really play with my phone and throw away my PDA and leave my laptop at the office. You know how great it is to log into your office linux box with your Nokia 9210 over ssh? This could give motorola a coolness factor beyond their expectations. Oh yeah, and the phone looks damn cool as well.
>Am I the only one for whom this conjures up images of Shrinky Dinks?
Yes, Yes you are. Seriously. It's funny and all but don't you think this is just another marketing trick from Apple?A rep from Apple dropping off a baked apple and everyone spreading the news. I'm not saying it's a bad trick. It's almost like those articles on Microsoft site about people switching to microsoft.
I don't have any sleep disorders or anything , but on a recent work trip to Nigeria I had the weirdest, most vivid dreams. I thought it had something to do with the location. But I have travelled before and have never experienced something like that. When I spoke to a co-worker about it , he said that it was the same for him. We concluded that it must've been the malaria tablets as it really fucks your system up. I just thought it was really strange.
Man! The more I read stuff like this the more I long for a society where information can be free. Just think where we would've been today if we were allowed access to all and any information. Well, it would probably be overrun by porn and spam.. Nevermind. Anyhoo.. I don't chat on Kazaa and I don't download on Dalnet.
I like the part where sensors in the retirement home are keeping an eye on grandma and tells you that she's had a "normal day". Imagine getting an update about the day when Grandma decided to stuff society, lighted a joint , burnt her bra and started to get it on with old mr. Smith in the room next door.
This is very clever and everything, but too messy for me. I want a phone with a proper PDA, a color screen for watching my portable 101x80 res pr0n ans decent bluetooth games like mobile doom or outrun or something like that. When will we have that? We have most of the technology available today. Why not combine it? I know some people will say that all they want is a phone that they can use to talk to someone, but some of us want something that we can use to organise our lives, send e-mail and play a game against a friend or alone sometimes..
As a South African I am fully aware that we have good programmers and a lot of open source followers.I myself use Linux and FreeBSD as much as possible. Even at home. The rest of the world usually find it very weird to hear that we even have computers. We might not be the US , but our cities look just like any other city in Europe. But with our budget and problems, we need to take steps like this to save costs. This is excellent and I'm very glad to hear that our govenment made that choice. The funny thing is that recently Microsoft offered a couple of schools (in rural areas where they just recently got running water) *free* copies of MS-Office, but the government made their calculations and realized that the schools would not be able to afford the licenses for Windows and the computers, so they said. Thanks , but no thanks. That was funny to see MS's publicity stunt backfire like that.

Don't worry, I can overthrow your govenment for you. I'll just start by bombing the shit out of all your major cities.
Bye bye karma.

Well, shouldn't the rest of us boycott American stuff then. Please keep politics out of this.
I was just wondering... What was the most comments ever associated with a story and is this not some kind of record maybe?
Draft? Doh! I thought you said draught .As in beer.

No. I did not. 2.4.18 is old.
Well, according to my standards. And I allow my distro to be upgraded by me. Not the other way around.
But IE has had something like that for years. Sometimes it redirects you to a nice blue screen.
