You are absolutely correct, to be sure, but the current conflict we find ourselves involved in is not conventional. We find not a military force, but civilian combatants. These guys attack, hide their weapons, and then blend in with noncombatant civilians for safety. This type of warfare isn't covered by the Geneva Convention, because it didn't exist on the level it does now. So to be perfectly legal, if you see a civilian with a gun, he is a combatant - kill him. If you see a civilian without a gun, leave him alone. This will cause the conflict to drag on and on, as it obviously has. The other option is to treat war like war, and kill anybody you see until the enemy gives up. We don't have the stomach for that though, so nothing is ever really accomplished.

I can tell you what people in a warzone should be doing, they should be fighting. If a foreign power has invaded your land and you disagree with them, fight them. If you agree with the invading power, fight with them. If your own government is attacking its people, fight back. I'm tired of all these refugees from so called war torn areas of the world. Take a stand for what you believe, and if you believe you should be a pacifist, well I don't know what to tell you because you are saying there is nothing worth fighting for, and you're beyond hope or my caring.

I wish we could all be world citizens, and be a world without borders. However, bigotry continues, and governments prevent unity. I can't think of a good reason why I shouldn't be able to have free trade with anyone in the world, or why I shouldn't be able to drive to Canada or Mexico without papers, but the governments don't allow it, and it isn't as much about security and economy as it is about power and control.

OK, pet peeve of mine, these hyphenated Americans. Are they Indian, or are they American? If American, who cares what color or race they are. If they're Indian, why are they participating in the American school system? Hyphenating tends to perpetuate stereotypes, and makes it seem as if the person isn't proud to be American. I am a native American - I was born here. My ancestors were Cherokee, Apache, German, Italian, Scottish, and who knows what else, but I don't hold onto those as my heritage. I'm proud of my ancestry, but I am an American.

Blatant stealing? I think not. There may be an obligation to find the owner if it is possible, like a name on it or check the address book, but other than that who are you going to trust to get it to the rightful owner? The bartender? The police? Chances are whomever you trust to find the owner will keep the item anyway. Maybe if we had a system of lost and found kiosks or something it would work. Might even be a good business model if you charge the owner to retrieve the lost item. Of course the Mob would get involved, and they would make people lose things just so they could pay to get them back.

Your ideas will not work. Voting is useless to effect change unless enough people vote for a regular person instead of a professional politician.
