We use 4xHD projectors at work... we have four of them all projecting on a 3-walled 'room' with a roof. We use it to project CAD images as 3-D images and with some funky Dame Edna glasses, you see a 3D image in front of you and when you move your head, the view changes along with it. So imagine having a car, you can open the door, sit inside it etc... really really cool!
but do you take offense at those that would go to a lap dance place? There was nothing compelling people to stay behind and watch this, much like going to a party where lap dancers/strippers are hired, you can turn away if you like but are you offended?
So children were reading a news/techy sites? Erm, surely it's up to the parents what their children are reading on? And if a site has this as news, I'm sure parents would have a whole lot more to worry about to explain to their children.
I've started seeing Yahoo advertising on roadsides and there may well be on tv (I hardly have time to watch anything 'live')... but isn't this an excellent PR stunt? How many people are actually offended by this?! Who are they apologising to?! In the meantime, all red-blooded males would tip their hat or nod in the most awesome approval and want to come to the next session!
You just have to be careful if you do this because government loans are tied to your income so if you earn above a threshold, you will pay a certain percentage and if below or not working, you obviously don't pay... whereas you don't get such luxuries with bank loans.
I don't think it's actually -0.4%... they have a minimum level.
They say that the UK student loan is the best loan you'll get ever due to the low interest but I remember last year it went up to 4 or 5% which meant you were hardly paying off the interest.
I'm not gonna knock the game yet... it has an interesting twist to the normal beat-em-up mmo's so will wait and see how they implement it. As it's an mmo, you will always have the grind factor etc so will just have to weigh up the good points. Some ideas that come to mind are:
(*) it would be cool to be travelling the world disguised as normal npc so other players may not be able to tell you're a player unless they have higher skill and so you never know how many people may be after the same target.
(*) You could be in rival spy-assassin companies and build company/player reputation.
(*) Being able to use sniper weapons, cameras etc like an FPS
(*) Ability for espionage, infiltrating rival companies or sabotaging their objective etc
why is this modded as flaimbait? Do people with mod points actually know how to use them and what the different options mean? I'm fed up of people totally ruining your karma for a disagreement.
as for your post, I'm just surprised why it is frowned upon... it's not as if everyone is capable of doing it and especially as it's human ability rather than using a machine, I can't see it as cheating either. Just goes to show how much the house always wins.
I have a lot of respect to bio-engineers who use both engineering knowledge and biochemistry to make medical appliances. I find it difficult enough just as an engineer, let alone having to think about a whole other field of knowledge!
As a normal Slasdhotter, I haven't read the article but from the summary this is a great invention and I hope people like them are appreciated.
I think free-to-play games with microtransactions must strike a careful balance in rewarding those who put money in but at the same time not putting the free players at a disadvantage. For instance, I play on Jade Dynasty and shop items tend to be items that makes things easier such as getting mounts and cosmetic items but nothing that would put them at a clear advantage over non-payers. Besides usually people sell shop items in the market for in-game money and it's not actually that difficult to earn money if you're willing to put some time grinding.
heh, looks like the OP got Flaimbait and so did I for responding, I wish people did more discussion rather than just put down with what they don't agree with.
as for my comment, I stand by it saying that the majority of people will not be using Linux. They will be coming into contact with it more due to school etc but until their everyday programs become available on any os flavour, it will never truly be the year of linux on the desktop.
Just because this netbook will be coming in dual-boot doesn't mean that everyone will be using both OS... it's like saying that everyone who owns a car travels at 100+mph because their vehicle is capable of it (hehe, managed to fit in a car analogy finally!)

'User demand is not there for [other forms of] Linux'
Totally incorrect.
Just you wait, many purchases will scrub both Androis & Windows 7 and install their favourite distro be it Debian, Fedora, SUSE, or the dreaded *buntu (only joking, xbuntu is pretty good).
ah... it's the year of linux on the desktop (or netbook) eh? Where have I heard that before? I guess I'll get karma burned for that eh?... in 3...2...1...
PS, how long do you have to wait before submitting another post? Mine is ages:(
No offence but I don't think uni research is anything like a corporate environment. You tend not to interact with other departments, customers etc but mostly feed your results/data to your professor etc and if you were to give a presentation to others, they would normally be within your circle of colleagues at work anyway.
may I ask what the type of business or it's customers were? I may be very naive but I think that those who don't mind interacting with randomly dressed people are a very small percentage.
I've just been reading through a lot of the comments and with lots of people saying "fuck it, wear whatever you want and I'd quit if anyone told me what to wear" and I wanna call BS.
Do you guys really believe that people would wear whatever they want to work? Just prop up a mohawk, cargo pants and a pufffer jacket and go and work at a big software company, any engineering company, any food company... actually, do you really believe that you could even pass an interview wearing that?
Get real. You could only do stuff like that if you run your own business and I damn hope you're not hypocritical if you have employees that dress like that. Employees represent the company and having eccentrically dressed people will deter the vast majority of the population... else you're just being an ass trying to make a point but in fact wear 'normal' clothing going to work and not necessarily a suit. Shirts and trousers will get you pretty far.
We will be saving millions of pounds going with Google compared to what we have currently and I'll be surprised if there aren't any penalties Google incur for not meeting specified service level.
Personally, I've not had any problems with Google Business software and it's much better than before. And I stand by my main original point in that companies look at alternatives during times of economical stress and so it's up to others to create something robust enough for the corporate environment rather than complain about lock-ins when there may not be viable alternatives
Will it cost more to outsource your IT on a dependable company, reduce your own IT staff and infrastructure?
Google have made it easy to transfer mailboxes etc from Outlook and we will no longer require to have as many IT staff, Exchange licenses for every user etc... in effect, we're reducing staff in non automotive department, so how does the comment "moving away from an area where you've already invested in talent saves money" apply when we're focusing on our business - automotive engineering?

That'll teach those penguin lovers!
How would you DRM singing? Armed patrols would shoot you if they catch you humming a tune?
Don't give them ideas!

and then how quick can the homebrewers get it to not only play dvd's but upscale it to 1080p :)

hrmm, I knew this tritanium umbrella will come in handy one day
but seriously, there must be a first stage screening/review before it's accepted to proceed... right?
Is this update optional or once I connect ii to the net and it auto searches for updates, it won't let me carry on until it's updated?

I think I've missed something as all I can hear is 'whoooosh' ...
