    I doubt that, since Linux supports HFS (and HFS+) just fine.

    Pardon my ignorance, but couldn't you just figure out which file is the sound file and replace it with say... a 1/6 of a second long sound clip of nothing at all?

    The Mac startup sound is in ROM, so it cannot be changed. You hear it immediately after turning on the computer, before the hard disk has even spun up.

    Given that a lot of torrents are copyrighted content, are ISPs really going to want to do this? The moment they start caching these files on their servers, they become a huge target for lawsuits.

    Google's caches are full of copyrighted content. Are they a huge target for lawsuits? If not, why not?

    Not any more than we'll see the US/Canadian telephone international code change from anything but 1. It's just not worth the hassle to change it.

    The biggest problem I've run into with it is the fact that OO 1 cannot open documents that were saved in OO 2 format.

    OOo 1.1.5 can do this.

    Nothing at all. I'm sure Ms. Kroes doesn't find it hard to imagine, either. I'm kind of amazed, on the other hand, that no one here seems to realize that Kroes's "hard to imagine" statement is simply diplomatic talk for "Microsoft are full of shit".

    But what the heck, I'll bite. If you think the fact that humans have no souls is an argument for allowing "excision" of babies from mother's bellies, at least then be consistent and advocate for legalizing killing humans of any age. The mere fact that it lives off of its mother's body doesn't make it any less human; they are still sentient beings (from just a few weeks after conception, in fact).

    Just notice that even such "harmless" decisions as "1 child per family" program in China have some not-quite-expected consequences where there many, many more boys being born than girls.

    Anyone else using iRATE? For some reason it isn't listed in the article, but I've been using it for years and it's the best way I've found to (legally) get free tracks from the web and get new ones you like based on how you've rated previous ones.

    So says you. Have you ever seen recent Mac hardware from nearby (and I mean recent as in less than five years old)? It's not just beautiful, it's solid and durable. Look inside one and the attention to detail seems immediately obvious. I have never seen a PC box or laptop that comes close, although some try.

    Yeah, so I'm an Apple fanboi. Sosumi.

    Once every while you have these people that are, as we say in our language, 'sticking'. They won't take hints that the conversation finished, [...] Now what is the least rude, most helpful way and effective way to let them know?

    When addressing an autistic person, I'd just be explicit and matter-of-factly, but in a nice way. Like: "I enjoyed the conversation but I want to go and do something else now. Talk to you later", or "Thanks for the chat but I'm tired now and want to rest. See you tomorrow". A person who can't read hints will appreciate getting unambigious communication for a change.
