You can run cmd.exe as a different user and run the batch file from there with elevated privileges. If an installer is poorly written, that's not Windows' fault, although the process of making a "proper" installer could be better documented
cannot speak for later versions of Windows since I stopped using them, but I never saw a version of windows that does not force you to completely log off and back on to access privileged functions, encouraging people to run with privileges on all the time, because they cannot just enter the password for privileged activities. Su does not exist, nor does sudo.
That may have gotten modded up as interesting, but it's just plain wrong. All modern versions of Windows have the "Run As..." command whereby you can start a process as if you were logged in as any other given user. This includes doing things like starting a Control Panel applet or CD Burning program as Administrator or running an installation program as a Power User.
To do this, just shift-right-click on the shortcut, or use "runas" on the command-line

You mean like you what can currently do with paper and glue? Advertisers don't seem to be vandalizing each others' billboards right now, I don't see how this is going to change anything. Nor do I see spammers putting stickers over movie theater ads in my city.

Dear Slashdot,
I have a great idea for fixing a problem that's been plagueing us all. By simultaenously implementing IPv6 world-wide, converting the US to metric, adding mass transit to rural areas, teaching everyone Esperanto, and making Linux ready for even the most stubborn grandmother, all the worlds problems will be solved. There's just this problem of implementation, i.e., how do I do it? I'm sure some clever/. can come up with a solution. Thanks!
I already posted this elsewhere in the thread, but it's probably going to get buried, so here it is again without The Bonus
I think this was a parallel to Buddhism. Neo is clearly a Buddha figure (enlightenment (being The One) allows him to escape from the suffering of the Matrix), and if you read Buddhist texts they tell how the Buddha was a rich man that enjoyed nothing but worldly pleasures. The dance/sex scene was showing that in the world of Zion, Neo is not yet enlightened and is still a part of the unenlightened activities. Contrast this to the end of the movie where he is enlightened in the world of Zion (you know what I'm talking about, so no need for a spoiler here)
Step 1) Go to google Step 2) Type in "NT messenger spam" Step 3) Hit the "I'm feeling lucky" button Step 4) Stop NT Messenger Spam Step 5) Submit question to "Ask Slashdot" anyway Step 6) ???? Step 7) Profit!
The compiler can determine at compile-time if you're comparing similar types, and error if you're not. Also, it doesn't need to do any run-time type checking to figure out which > to use.
The Java equivalent would return an Object and take two Objects as parameters. All the type safety you work so hard to preserve is lost, and at run-time you're taking a performance hit every time this is called for a myriad of reasons.
Does this mean Java will get operators soon? Back when Java was introduced, lack of templates was called a "feature", just like the lack of operator overloading. Have the designers seen the light?

Can we just rename "Ask Slashdot" to "Ask legal advice from a bunch of non-lawyers" ? It's been a long time coming
Anyone else reminded of the Precious Roy sketches from "Sifl and Olly" ?

Hint: Reviews aren't supposed to have spoilers - a review is primarily to tell you whether or not you'd be interested in reading the book.

Whose fault is that?
Scientists estimate this will be the blackest material ever manufactured, until they perfect the technique of mass-producing Hillary Rosen's soul.

I'm sure this hasn't been covered by people who want to make fun of AOL's CD spamming policies. In fact, I'm sure using a major search engine would fail to produce any results
So you're new here?
