    hm, what about using some simple LED light that would act as a button for Kinect? but, I think Kinect is too complex and it probably 'slows down' CPU due to processing. and lag is probably unavoidable.

    We should harness the free market and build a system that takes inputs from whatever security feeds users subscribe to and weight those security feeds based upon the end user's preferences. Also, we should be able to override the choices for any given case.

    I think they have a good system at http://www.virustotal.com/ users have ratings and leave comments. too bad it wouldn't work for large files. but we could use hashes for them.

    but would having MD5 and filesize make it harder to produce collision? iirc, torrents for eg. use chunks of known size. also, I always wondered: is it possible to make a (let say textual) file that contains correct md5sum of itself! (kinda recursive)

    The whole idea reminds me of "Data Execution Prevention": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Execution_Prevention and "restore points", etc..

    I disagree, big pixels are not so bad, esp. because the price for higher DPI is probably poor colors, contrast..
    similar to cameras.

    another one to consider is Jetico Personal Firewall, but I'm not sure if its free either.
    anyway, if someone paid for windows, it seems reasonable to pay little more for such an important piece of software like firewall.

    I'd add Look'n'Stop firewall. it seems to be very good, because its lightweight and has 64bit version. thankfully it does not work as antivirus and all that.

    you mentioned WIPFW. thats probably the best/fastest of them all. but its not easy to install 64bit version of it, and takes a lot of knowledge to configure. also, iirc, that kind of firewalls don't support blocking by application, only by protocol.

    well you could ask the same question about airplanes. besides there is not such a big difference between 'mechanical' and 'electrical', they are all machines. and both can fail if designed wrong.

    I disagree, what we really need is a way to take people off drugs and stop healthy ones from ever "trying it out". there must be some kind of cure. the real problem is the destruction that drugs bring to brain and body of an addict, and their lives.
