Its not just me though (as this thread shows), if you look through the gentoo forums for this problem you will see that some people have the problem and others don't. People who have the same nvidia drivers will have differing results. Its a very strange and hard to track down problem.

But from looking through their website and doing a strict count of what products and services they have, I would say that 70% of them are experimental, and 10% or 20% count for the search engine part. But that's based on count.

There is another option, which would fit with Microsoft's history. They might just not agree with the transparent png standard and implementation of CSS and be silently protesting their adoption. It wouldn't be the first time they've done this. I wish people wouldn't say things like this. Humans barely have a grasp on what life really is and what conditions it can exist under, especially off our own planet. So how could we make a judgement that life couldn't exist around a pulsar, despite its homo-sapien threatening conditions.

Ok, that's an acceptable explaination I think, but its just weird. Especially considering the timing. I mean, if you look up Steve Jobs in wikipedia.com, it has this paragraph:

"In the autumn of 1974, Jobs returned to California and began attending meetings of the "Homebrew Computer Club" with Stephen Wozniak. He took a job at Atari Inc., designing computer games with his friend, Wozniak. During this time period, it was discovered that a slightly modified toy whistle included in every box of Cap'n Crunch cereal was able to reproduce the 2600 Hz supervision tone used by the AT&T long distance telephone system. Jobs and Wozniak went into business briefly in 1974 to build "blue boxes" based on the idea which allowed for free long distance calls.

Which almost links the two together. Were did the catalogue number come from? Did Atari make 2,599 items before they made the 2600? Also, seeing as Jobs and Wozniak liked to hide numbers in their products, like the Apple I's price being $666, I would think that they could have done the same with the Atari VCS. Perhaps only they know the answer to this.

That's interesting, windows also crashes because a programmer fucked up something. I know what you are getting at, but I think that increased complexity means increased "fuck ups".

  14. Re:Why? on Why Does Windows Still Suck? · · Score: 1

According to urban legend a philosphy professor once asked a single question on an exam "Prove that this chair in front of you doesn't exist." And the person who got an A simply wrote "What chair?" on their paper and handed it in.

So likewise, the question here is "Why does windows still suck?" and the person with the first and most seen comment simply states "Because I'm a gamer", which to me implied that windows would not be needed if people like him didn't need to play games. So windows is still needed and windows still sucks. Otherwise, we wouldn't use it.

I just got paid $50 to reinstall windows for some lady who had a machine totally infected with spyware and viruses. I was thinking of selling her on the idea of using Linux, but the major hold up there is that her son was a major game player. And that was the only holdup for me. So there you go. If gaming was better under Linux (and it is getting better all the time), we wouldn't need windows so much.

Interestingly enough, the topic that I'm presenting on at the next Bloomington Linux Users Group meeting next Tuesday is "Gaming under Linux".
