Please tell this to US advertisers who frequently compare themselves to other competitors. It's infatile and certainly doesn't make me want to buy their product.
I don't know if it's done in other countries, but certainly not in England. I was quite shocked to discover the practise when I moved here.
Free speech is one thing, but you also need to use common sense.
I saw a notable decrease in Spam after my server was shut down for a total of 3 weeks during the hurricanes this year. Down from about 40% of all mail being spam to 20%. It hasn't increased by much again, either.
Whether or not it's because of hurricanes or the internet at large is getting better at blocking junk before I even see it is open to debate. I'm not in the habit of shutting down my mail server unless I'm forced too:-)
So, it's a little extreme but it does work. Bear in mind shutting down your server also creates a major headache with mailing lists. Greylisting might be a better option but I don't recommend this for large sites. YMMV.
Much apart from the fact that they've replaced Firefox's nice clean interface with that ugly monstrosity but they've also included ActiveX support. The lack of support is the primary reason I switched to Firefox!
Why don't they just use Firefox 1.0 with minor (MINOR) cosmetic changes?
This is a stupid idea and will only serve to irritate the rest of the Internet. As much as they'd like to think it's not a DDos, it most certainly is, and they're just sinking to the spammer's own level.
I hope Lycos rethinks their plans, or I fear the retributions will be far more damaging. Any net user who downloads this software is going to leave themselves open to prosecution.
Have you tried VideoNow? I was skeptical that my toddler would have the concentration for it, but he loves it. Much cheaper than a personal DVD player and I can confirm that they survive being thrown onto a tile floor and jumped on. Several times.
I think you're expecting too much of it. It was written in the 1960's, and at the time it was revolutionary. Those cheesy looking special effects where done first on this show - on a very tight budget. They weren't that bad, either. Interracial kissing? Would have gotten you killed if you'd done that in public back then.
The original series had a lot more humour than the other shows as well. I wish they'd put more of this into the newer series.
Or, just give your kid the ones you played with. They're probably still in great condition:) Our tonka trucks survived my older brother, me, and 20 odd years of visiting children to my parents. My son plays with them now.
Fisher Price are similar, I don't think it's possible to kill a fisher price toy. He plays with my old fisher price stuff as well.
No, I'm not cheap. He has new toys of his own, but I'm impressed how well mine have held up.
(which actually means two words.. "Play well"). I played with Lego from the time I could pick up the blocks, and 26 years later I'm still playing with lego. It's a great educational toy as well.
9/10 times I use my credit card before anyone else flames me:P Not all stations have pay at the pump, or more importantly one that works 100% of the time (I really wish they'd solve this).
They used too, ask your Parents and Grandparents. It was stopped, like many other services. Remember when you didn't have to get out of your car to get the tank filled (*I'm assuming you don't live in a state where it's illegal to fill your own tank, such as New Jersey*), a nice attendant did it for you. In the better petrol stations he washed your windows and checked your oil as well. This still happened when I was a kid, and I'm only 26. I'd happily pay extra for this convenience. [1]
These excellent services stopped being provided in the name of cutting costs. It's far cheaper to have you hem your own pants or charge you $10 (which I think is quite cheap) than to pay 3 people to do it for you.
[1] Get out of car, get toddler out of car seat, take irritated toddler, who I just woke up, into petrol station. Apologise to other customers about the screaming child. Pre-pay for petrol (since my local station is pre-pay only now). Put toddler back in car seat, this pisses him off even more. Fill car. Get back in car. Spend next 30 minutes with a screaming child in the back seat because he had his sleep interrupted.:-)
Stopped having any kind of major crashes around the 0.6 milestone. 0.7.3 and 0.8 where both rock solid and as soon as Enigmail is updated I'll be giving 0.9 a whirl.
Oh sure, outsourced companies (yes, probably ones in India too) use this all the time to make customers think they're really being called by the company not some third party vendor.
Pleasant disposition? My Mother had a siamese cat named Balthazar from 1989 until his untimely death in 2001. He basically spent his entire life either eating, or sleeping on whoever's lap was nearest at the time.
The only time he got upset was when it was a) time for his flea treament b) the dustbin men where outside [prior to those horrible wheelie bin things being handed out in the late 90s]. Then he'd just disappear into the deepest, darkest corner of the cupboard under the stairs and you'd hear muffled hissing if you tried to get close.
I don't recall him ever attacking anyone except maybe the vet, but that's every cat's noble right.
YS is back? Brilliant! It was total crap when it was originally in print, but in a skillo funky way that we all loved.
My first real computer was as ZX Spectrum, I spent hours writing programs in BASIC, even learned some Z80 assembler as well. Last I check, it still works fine as well. One of these days I'll get it shipped over to me and figure out a way to run it on these funny NTSC sets they use here. I suspect Radio Shack has something to convert the signal.
I don't think I've ever been in a public place with a TV on in the background and it bother me so much I want to turn it off. I avoid places that have loud music/TV's anyway. Much less antisocial than pissing off a bunch of people:)
Now, if they could invent a zapper that would kill the cell phone of the idiots who think they can drive and use one at the same time I'd be happy.
I had similar problems with my cable line, they replaced it, the roadrunner line kept giving enormous packet loss, digital TV was impossible to watch because the picture kept breaking up. Eventually they installed a booster which helped a little. Apparently, these things are adjustable (I'm not a cable TV expert, but I'm guessing they can increase the signal strength coming to me from the head end) so every time I called they'd boost the signal a little more.
Eventually after a few weeks of this nonsense I just said "Why not turn it up all the way?" the answer was "Oh we can't do that it'll just overload the signal", "Just do it anyway", "OK if you insist but it'll not work".
It also has some of the worst traffic pollution in the entire world. Besides, cold weather has absolutely nothing to do with catching winter colds.

AOL fires a bunch of employees, and later in the week a "glitch" causes a bunch of screen names to stop working.
:)
Upset former employee's parting shot maybe... or me being paranoid. (more likely)

Runs good on anything higher than a P200. I've not tried it on anything slower, but I wouldn't be surprised if it ran fine on slower hardware.
What XP needs is memory, LOTS of memory. Once you turn off the silly themes and all the other unnecessary fluff it's very usable on slower hardware.
You're obviously listening to the wrong kind of music. Many (too many to list in fact) electronic bands release their music in surround sound.
OK, so you're a Beatles fan and this may not be your thing. I could be wrong of course, I'm a Beatles fan...
Very sporadic detection. I ran it along side Ad-Aware, which picked up far more than Symantec ever did.
Similar findings with McAfee VirusScan 8.0 as well.

barfy (256323) (emphasis mine). Clearly, you've not been around long enough. Slashdot has never had any standards.

Bring it on. I hope they do, and then we'll patch them. Then FF 1.1 will be even better than FF 1.0.

The message filters don't have that stupid limit on the number of rules you can set. This costs me many hours of wasted time every year at work.
RSS support, this is sooo useful
IMAP actually works in Thunderbird, it barely works at all in Outlook (Or Outlook Express)
Enigmail is free, and much more reliable than the commercial offerings. (PGP support)
Extensions, of which there are dozens... if you can't find a feature it's very likely someone else has made an extension.
Flipside, things Outlook has that I like...
The best scheduling system of any mailer (unless someone can point me in the direction of another mailer)
A much better dictionary, and a grammar checker
Stopped having any kind of major crashes around the 0.6 milestone. 0.7.3 and 0.8 where both rock solid and as soon as Enigmail is updated I'll be giving 0.9 a whirl.
Wow... I wish I had as much money to you where I could buy a $150 toy and not mind if it broke.
