From what I remember, Anon ordered (via IRC) an owner of the company to fire Barr in return for calling off the continued attack on HBGary Federal. So this is a clear victory for Anon, who are basically dictating to this "security" company how to run their business.
I don't think he's referring to a product release "launch", but actually running an existing non-Steam game from within the Steam application.
The only reasons for this are:
to show off to your friends on Steam what non-Steam game you're playing
to chat to friends on Steam within the non-Steam game (Steam hooks non-Steam applications so that shift+tab still works)
maybe to have the game in your list of Steam games so you don't forget about it?
I think we should get away from the term "usernames" and replace it with "userphrases" instead to emphasize the importance of choosing a good username...
This sounds like a great idea. I'm off to patent my "touch display chair seat" invention. It just requires you to get out of the chair and turn around to see the display and interact with it. Imagine the possibilities. One could even use it to display data, instead of the monitor.
If you can receive treatment without the need for X-rays or CT scans it is something that deserves consideration (and even prior directives to care givers/family/facilities for permanent inclusion in ones medical record)
I think that's really irresponsible paranoia. X-rays and CT scans are done for a reason and all sorts of problems could be missed if people are encouraged to avoid them! I'd imagine the risk is much greater of untreated/undiagnosed conditions than a couple of X-rays or CT scans!
You have had the luxury of viewing and evaluating these videos for yourself, and now you want your government to forbid you to be able to do this?!?
Wow, I think people who live in a country where speech is reasonably free just don't appreciate it.
The ground troops that coerce civillians to provide information on enemy traps/movement etc. put their lives at an infinitely greater risk. I watched a documentary last night ("Dispatches - Bravo's Deadly Mission") where US troops just took over some civillians' property at gunpoint so they could camp the night there. One of the civillians was later found beheaded. The ground troops don't care if any civillians are put in danger, as long as they can glean any information about booby traps etc. to protect themselves. The possibility that Wikileaks "could" get innocent people killed in the future is a fairly small concern compared to the constant revenge murders against US collaborators/informants since their occupation began (Which of course the US doesn't care about as long as it can be kept secret from the public).
All "old" films were in "HD" - shot on film stock with enough effective resolution to be able to be projected onto a large cinema screen. Assuming that the prints survive, any could be scanned and released as a 1080p Bluray, but distributors would feel they have to spend large amounts digitally remastering the picture quality so dumbass consumers wouldn't complain about grain or specks of dust. Also, I doubt this would be as profitable for them compared to releasing the latest generic blockbuster stuff.
That would be like saying the motion picture "Pretty Woman" is prostitution profiteering, and equally ridiculous. I fail to see any comparison between such abstract entertainment, and actual profiteering like those contractors.
Maybe they were taught computer science, and not IT administration? I think it would be pretty pathetic to teach Windows installation in a CS course. (Although I admit, it shows their laziness and lack of interest to not bother to learn that simple stuff on their own.)
For me, quick time events are the worst offenders of all that have ruined many modern games for me (Resident Evil 4/5, God of War series, Uncharted, etc.) .
Interrupt the game, destroy the atmosphere by displaying console-specific button prompts, and then force the player to play some lame simon-says game resurrected from the dark era of "interactive movie" games on the mega-cd. Yeah, that's a great idea...
The website seems to be using Visual Basic?!?!

'I'm very disappointed for them in particular. I would hope that larger companies would not put profit ahead of all else. Generally, companies should pay attention to how and where their products are used.'
I find this absolutely hilarious coming from Brin, pretending Google is some sort of moral authority now that they've pulled out of China due to the recent incident, having sold out to the Chinese government for many years previously providing services customized according to the state to oppress its citizens and restrict their access to news and information!
In case anyone wants to play around with this tech without paying (or rolling your own):
I tried out this free (as in beer) windows software yesterday: http://golubev.com/rargpu.htm
It seemed to work very effectively - I was able to brute force 5 lower case letter only passwords on RAR files in a couple of minutes on a GTX260.
It also has some advanced options to specify mutations of strings to try, and to use word lists.
The summary is just a very misleading slashvert, it makes it seem like one original copy is for sale. It is just some document that has been declassified and is now being published in a hardcover book...

I'm not familiar with that unit of measurement, what's that in Libraries of Congress?

People following Jo Moore's infamous advice might just achieve that elusive "sneaky reveal" - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/1823120.stm

So there are old films that will never be in HD

Also, in that same disastrous sentence: "if it had been released", not "if it have been released"
Coding is hard! Let's go shopping!
Someone, please draw a cartoon of this so I can print it out and gaze at it frequently when programming...

and never you mind horrid java-script hells of a "web page" all of these "services" feature
Yeah, it's better to stick to properly designed web pages like *cough* Slashdot?!?!?
I don't think much damage will be caused by "overriding" hard disks, let's just hope it doesn't overwrite anything.
