BeOS died because it had no applications. No matter how cool BEOS was, no matter how fast it was, no matter how fast it booted, no matter how cool the files system was IT STILL HAD NO APPLICATIONS!!!!
No one, except you amiga freaks, buy an OS simply to watch it boot and to brag about how they run it.
They later payed, what was it, $20M or something in damages because of it.
No they didn't. Novell eventually bought DR-DOS and made it Novell DOS. Which was later bought by Caldera and they resumed the lawsuit. That was settled but many people, including myself, wish they hadn't settled.
Caldera had the best chance to nail ms to the wall but they settled for the cash.:(

USB KVMs Compared

IOGear makes the best KVM switches that I have ever used.
I have used switches by Belkin, IOGear, Cybex, and a few others and they aren't even close in quality.
Only the IOGear does not display any video ghosting. IOGear video is rock solid with no fuzziness.
I switched to USB after I saw that IOGear uses 'USB sniffing". This neat feature eliminates that 3 to 4 second delay that every other USB KVM has and makes the switch as responsive as a PS2 switch.
IOGear has top quality stuff but their cables are a bit expensive.
Imagine a beowulf cluster of these!

Think this through for a second.
These PC users, who say having to purchase a new mac is too expensive of an option, have no problem upgrading every single piece of their computer every two years.
They are effectively replacing their PC every two years.

I am EXTREMELY happy with miine and I the only thing I wish was better integrated would be the ability to record voice memos while on the phone; i.e. record a phone call.
The integration is damn near perfect. It acts like a phone when the lid is closed and acts like a PDA when the lid is open.
Great phone. I wonder what phone you have. If you don't like it that is fine. I just wonder how more integrated it could be.
that they don't care about the hacking as long as the hackers do not mess with the subscription service.
And there is a rumor that a prominent hacker has figured out how to get around subscriptions, but he isn't say how.

Fine MS?
If microsoft were to lose the case, they would LOVE a fine. Think about it.
Let's pick a rediculously high number for a fine. Say 20 BILLION. It would never be that high but let's say it is.
Microsoft has 40 BILLION in cash. Microsoft could pay the fine and keep right on doing what they are doing now. They would view it as the cost of business. And worth every penny.
For example. Say 20 years someone offered you a deal. We'll give you 95% market dominance, no real competitors, 40 BILLION in cash, a personal fortune worth 57 BILLION, and BILLIONS of profits every year. the only catch is that after you achieve all of this, were gonna take 20 BILLION away. And the resulting settlement will protect you to keep doing what got you here in the first place.
Every single person would take that deal.
If microsoft were only to be fined, that is simply the cost of them doing business.
the ruling needs to do three things:
Split microsoft into 3 companies; Apps, OS, Internet
Force microsft to use a competitors languages to develop their applications.
Lay bare EVERY single API call in all versions of Windows.
And don't say that would create 3 monopolies rather than 1. Think it through.
Oh, it's rat mind control. Not rat bastard mind control.
That was my point. The guy said that is was a bad machine to do rendering because the graphics systems wasn't meant to do rendering.
One has nothing to do with the other.
Well, that's one. :)
What the hell does the video card of the machine have to do with it's rendering ability?
It could spin a freaking teapot. Big deal.

BEOS had no apps. That is why it died.

That crappy bear is the only beer I have ever poured out after taking a sip. I should have taken a hint that it is served in an oil can.
Nothing probably grows on that spot even now.

Someone had to say it.
For an OS that everyone hates, you linux goofballs sure to imitate it an awful lot.
3 platters = 6 sides.
5 sides for dats (40 gigs each) and the bottom of the bottom platter for positioning.
The bottom half of the bottom platter is used to read sectors and such, like a grid. It doesn't hold any data.
MS will 0wn joo!
Geez
They don't ever read first.
Why do you think there is almost no linux software to purchase now?
Because every cheap linux user thinks 'Well, I'm not gonna buy my software. It should always be free!'
You cheap idots are killing your own desktop chances.
Sounds like a problem to me.
