Look this has nothing to do with the TSA, the airline probably told the security people to stop Ted 'I got away with murder' Kennedy from hauling his bloated ass onto the airplane because transporting his disgusting fat-body requires two or three times the fuel of a normal human being. Ask yourself would you want to sit next 300 pounds of alcohol-soaked, chewed bugglegum? Having to apologize to the stewardess everytime Teddy grabbed their ass? Oh and before you lefties start your whining, this has nothing to do with his politics. The man could be anywhere on the political spectrum, he would still be digusting fat-body.

Technically that was Republic of Texas. Of course, shorty there after was the battle of San Jacinto which ended with the loss of 1500 Mexicans (split roughly 50/50 between killed or captured). The Texans had 20 wounded and 0 KIA (IIRC). This defeat in turns leads to the American victory in the Mexican-American war and the annexation of land that now accounts for almost 1/3 of CONUS territory.

Unfortunately it goes like this: the feds cut taxes, the feds then have less money to give to states in the form of block grants, states then have shortfalls in funding for education, transportation, safety, ect. States make up for this shortfall by raising taxes (income, sales, property, ect), raising fees (tuition, business, license, ect) and cutting funding to anyone that gets state money. John Q. Public (that's you) then gets bent over with higher taxes and fees from states, counties, cities, as well as state funded enterprises such as universities. Any increased fees paid by businesses or professionals gets levied back onto the consumer. I am amazed that after hounding the left about "no free lunch" that the right engages in the exact same kind of games. There is no free lunch. The liberatarian fantasy about no taxes and making everything pay as you go is just that: pure fantasy. Every road a toll-road, every sidewalk a toll-sidewalk, every bikepath a toll-bikepath, victim of a crime or acciendt you get to pay the ENTIRE cost for the emergancy services. It does not work.

because many (American) scientists are part of the most reviled class in American society: the (not-quite-yet) dead, white males. To name our planetary probes after such people would enforce the "fact" that such programs are simply an extension of the facist, neo-colonialist, imperialist, racist, sexist, xenophobic, homophobic, paternalist society that oppresses people of color and/or gender. Just because these scientists are the same people that have burnt their lives out trying to answer questions that might better the lives of all does not mean they should get any credit. They are the evil white man and that is all that matters.

As for Tony Blair, he is supposed to be a leftie, but he is currently trying to force through (despite his huge majority in the commons) a law giving universities the ability to charge more than others, while making all students have to pay back every fee, loan and bursary after graduation. This could easily add up to 15,000, not a very typical left policy.

From reading the Economist I was under the impression that pay back was only required if, upon graduation, a student landed a well paying job - although I do not remember if they discussed what defines a "well paying job". Also, it sounded like the Tories were more against it then Labour. Anyway I guess my questions are: is public financing of higher education economically viable? should people be responsible for their own education?
