I would recommend extending your current skillset. "Education" doesn't mean going to class at a university. You could see about online sertifications (linux, windows, cisco, project management) or even go to evening classes at the local technology training school. You might even go to some sort of "bootcamp" training session or possibly one of those geek cruises. Perhaps your employer could meet you half way on that. You might have to take some paid time off for that but if they could pay for the training, it's win-win for both sides. They don't have to hire someone who has a needed skill that you don't have and you have an extra skill in your bag of tricks if you ever find yourself looking for another job. Sound good?:)
"If you are like me, you don't look forward to conference meetings. Until now. We are going to be getting a Conference Bike. They even have a movie on how you can find love with the bike, very interesting. Great way for everyone to get out of the office and still get work done."
Honestly, who couldn't tell that this was some sort of lame attempt at free publicity for ConferenceBike.com or a source of referrals for this gomaze individual. He'll probably get credit for every purchase that came from a HTTP referral from Slashdot. Pathetic.
George Fara (author of No Debate[non-referral link]) was on an Episode of NOW with Bill Moyers. Full transcript is here. I found the program to be incredibly interesting.
Consumers won't neccesarily be affected by this. What do they care about file formats and future compatability? However, governments and other entities that care about reading their data archives in 50 years will most certainly be interested.
Can they pipe music over the comm system of the tanks? Yes. Were they build for the express purpose of blasting Slayer and Metallica so that the soldiers would get juiced up and ready to kill? No. It's just an auxiliary line in. You'd be surprised at what a bored combat soldier will rig up for entertainment in their vehicle or bivouac.
The thermal targeting system is precise enough to allow for vehicle identification. Different vehicles put off different images. Some vehicles get hot at the axle of the wheel, others get hotter on the tire itself. Different vehicles have different placement of exhaust pipes and these show up on thermal sights as well. I know for a fact that the Marine Corps does normal (daylight) Armed Forces Vehicle Identification (AFVID) and they also review thermal images of enemy and friendly vehicles so they can tell the difference and not just go blasting away at anything that moves. You are being very obtuse in your criticism, Mr. AC.
What was the response time for developers to release fixes for GAIM? We're going on 3 weeks now for AOL to release the fix for AIM. Not to mention that some of the vulnerabilities in GAIM were found in older versions of the program when upgrades were available.
Where is this documented? Oh, and WHY WOULD THEY REMOVE THIS FUNCTIONALITY IN THE FIRST PLACE!!
Thanks.:)
Don't use so many caps. It's like YELLING.
Yay lamesness filter!!:D
You could have started with a simple demo by either installing it on a workstation or just booting his workstation off of a knoppix or some other live-CD distro and trying some test files. Not to mention that you could demo the PDF generation.
e-reader-whacking anyone? With no human oversight in this it's quite possible that someone will be able to turn in complete crap and get an A. Not that this ever happened with human oversight.
So is TiVo just going to start downloading these extended commercials to people's units? What will determine who gets top billing for their product? How much space do they plan on taking up. Will these commercials also be in HDTV when the time comes? I don't want 20 gigs of storage taken up for a tampon commercial.:)

Neither can you. :)
A Jabber IM client would be a nice touch too though.
