and I can't RTFM I'm going to make wild speculation and say something that may/may not be true. When installing hardware always make sure that you are wearing a nice wooly jumper to make sure that you protect yourself from all the static that will build up. Also if you are trying to install a memory DIMM and it doesn't quite work, just press it hard so the mother board creaks
For absoluate performance yes. However I realise that you really need raid 1+0 for redundancy. I'm not saying its sensible but it will run fast. Of course it might crash faster
Nice article covering lots of little tech bits. However I would of thought that better performace might of been got from RAID-0 stripping of the disks or at least setup the swap and system on differenet disks to minimize the load
They are a series of patches which aim to fix bugs and imporve interactive performace. Some people also feel that they can be more stable than the normal kernel
Well I've been using test5+mm4 under heavy load with no problems. Now the mm4 did include the XFS fix and its been totally stable under constant I/O. Looks like 2.6 is shaping up very nicely. Would like to put it into real production but won't quite yet as there might be still one or two nasty little surprises. Overall thought hats off to Linus et al
Well to me it seems that if Sun isn't careful it could end up going a similar path to Sun. They both use to be good in the general workstation market and slowely got pushed into niche markets. Then in the niche markets commedity x86 solutions started taking hold. Both then started to look towards Linux as a solution to break back out. It will be intresting to see how it all play out
Yes nagios is the best. I've had it running totally on Solaris and you can also hack in Windows support. Also wit hthe right plugins you can monitor load, disk space etc...
Gaim 0.70 stopped working for me last night with a Protocol not support message. 0.71 just won't load the plugin coming up with MSN is unsupported. Of course this could be to do with my config. However now I will start to have to look at alternatives as I'm on a number of MSN accounts for business reason.
Prehaps MS has worked out that some people are using MSN for support of non MS platforms so wants to kick us all off. Then again if trillian has died as well prehaps I'm just been to suspicous.:)
You can see the thoughts going through Dells head trying to find an excuse
"Ok they. Look better, um ok no they don't. Well they perform better, um no. Ah they are more reliable, um ok not necessarily true.Ah they run Linux and Apple, oh damn its BSD isn't it"
Its nice to see this and hopefully it will be around for a while. I would be intrested to see what sort of technology the use for storing all this and quick recall. A nice FCA Array would be a nice starting point I suppose

Would this driver help WinPrinters/WinModems work under linux as with there bgin so many driver types as WinModems being such a 1/2 way house.

I think it would be argued that as the original manuscripts are over 2000 years old copyright has expired so they are free to reproduce
