If it can solve issues with programming with concurrency that Java and C++ have then it might be worth it but if it solves those problems then they will probably be incorporated as some point. I'm just tried of people like my boss saying that you just need to download Intel's compiler updates and then you're code will work with multicore perfectly. I've yet to find a magick bullet addon or compiler that's solved that issue, but if Google thinks they can do it the least I could do is check it out to see if it works.

Dragon Age 2 Announced

That really depends on how you play in a real dating sim. Good ones have far more variety then just playing the nice sounding options. That's a good formula for an average ending with a good chance of a bad or null ending. Now if Dragon Age added about 10 times more character conversation trees and made them more time dependent then it would be getting dangerously close to a dating sim. Then again I found it wierd that I could start the story for the Elves leave and complete all other stories then come back to finish the elves and werewolfs. I side with more temporal consequences in my gaming like coming back to find everyone dead because I took to much time.
The article didn't help explain what he was doing other then increasing the number of pixels in a photography. If I rescanned an image and turned every pixel I did the first time into 6x6 more pixels then I'd get a better image too, and without his horrible dog bone looking artifacts.
Given you did take the time to read the book you could have at least fact checked the Ox study before claiming that there is no data recorded on it. In truth the data that he analysed still exists. Look at the JPG at the bottom of this page.
Maybe I tricked you by only giving a summery of the Ox experiment because originally Galton wanted to say that the Median was the proper way to Judge the crowd which would put the crowds response way off from the mean. Galton wanted crowds to be stupid so much that he wanted the Median to be the measurement because the Mean would prove otherwise. The concept of the Wisdom of a Crowd isn't that the crowd is some God infallible and immutable. The concept is that the crowd is only better then the individual.
How About "The Wisdom of Crowds: Why the Many Are Smarter Than the Few and How Collective Wisdom Shapes Business, Economies, Societies and Nation" It is a nice counter to Charles Mackay. It's funny how people like to say crowds are morons and then try to prove it Scientifically like Francis Galton did with his Ox Experiment. If a crowd is so stupid why is the Mean of Francis' experiment within 1 pound of the weight of the Ox? From what Fark is ranting about he seems more irked about his crowd not self organizing when he wants it to. Wikipedia and Youtube self organize not just because of leadership but because the crowd wants to organize. If you have a meaningless concept that doesn't have the interest of the crowd then it wont self organize. And just because a group of people can be tricked like in the many witch burnings doesn't mean they have more or less wisdom then the individual since I've seen individuals go far more mad than that.
The block is obvious now isn't it. The PS3 is on the list of Available soon so you can watch it on your TV for a small fee so it will be literally replacing cable.
So would joining a book burning be alright if it meant getting some money or just getting a head in life be ok?
If you discard morals in exchange for a dollar then what would stop Google from say selling every one's search data on gay porn and personal data mined local data to say some religious organization who wants to find and cure the gays? Removing ethics from business only causes business to remove any safe guard they may have to stop some disaster from happening.
It's good that Google is at least standing up for what they believe in rather then surrendering the moral ground
Rose: Doctor, they've got guns.
The Doctor: And I haven't. Which makes me the better person, don't you think? They can shoot me dead, but the moral high ground is mine!
It really just seems like there can't be something for just boys anymore.
There is and will always be one thing (besides drawing in the snow) that is only for men. See the Equal Right Amendment wiki for more other wise I'd be more of a troll then I already am.
Just what kind of TV did you buy in 92 that had a digital tuner built in? I bought a HD TV in 2004-5 that didn't have a digital tuner built in. If I were to upgrade I'd have to give it away with the converter for it to be of any real use for broadcast TV.
I had 20/18 in one eye after lasik. If you're eyes are corrected to 20/20 you might see better if you have a more dense nerve bundle at the back of the eye. It's an individual thing on how much better you can see without glasses or correction of some kind. As far as the article is concerned if you have bad eyesite you have glasses to correct it so you should see perfectly and if you need glasses and have an iPhone you're an idiot or just too cheap to buy some glasses. If you take people who have what I uses to 20/400 and put them in your average people of 20/20 then yea you're going to be able to say the average person doesn't have good eyesight but that depends on how you want to twist the numbers.
I think using the world spelling with kanji is misleading. Kanji are not letters and they do not represent sounds like Latin characters do but rather represent a word or concept like ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs.

Time To Dump XP?

That's what so many IT pro's don't understand about Vista and 7. They install it and immediately turn a bunch of new features off and revert to the "Classic" Start menu.
If your picking a development PC for features like the "Start Menu" then you have the wrong priorities. Development of an application should have very little to do with the fancy little features that MS likes to use to sell it's OS to consumers. Reasons to upgrade to 7 over XP should be related to the very basics of development. Your app needs more then 2 gigs of ram then don't use XP. If you need more then 2 gigs of ram for your app then I want you to sit down and write up a clear argument for it because if as a user I see any single app taking up 2 gigs of ram I'm going to kill it unless what ever it does is so uber-special I can't live without it. Another reason to go to 7 is that I have an app that I want to have utilize a multicore processor and even though XP can use multicore processors 7 is better at it. Then again most people don't have the time to figure out how to optimist for multicore so what's the point in upgrading with XP does all the baseline functions.
So what if people can't do fractions right in their head on the fly clearly they forgot to figure in inflationary gas prices.
given 10,000 miles at $1.5 per gallon 1980's
18 mpg = 555 gallons = $832.50
28 mpg = 357 gallons = $535.50
Savings = $297
give 10,000 miles at $5 per gallon Worst Price in the last 5 years
34mpg = 294 gallons = $1,470
50mpg = 200 gallons = $1,000
Savings = $470
give 10,000 miles at $3 per gallon Todays Price
34mpg = 294 = $882
50mpg = 200 = $600
Savings = $282
So do you want to save $292 in 1980 or do you want to save $282 at todays $3 per gallon or do you believe prices will go up to around $5 and thus save $470. So depending on how you want to twist the number you're saving the same amount roughly or your saving a lot more for option B vs option A
If i was particularly worried I'd make an app that wiped the memory if the SIM card is pulled or if a code wasn't entered on a periodic basis to prevent airplane mode from blocking a wipe. Pulling the battery and the SD card are really your only options for the paranoid wipe. Then again on hard wired internal memory it would be a pain to break open the phone to take out the chip so you could look at it without running the apps on the phone. Though I'm sure law enforcement would be able to get the manufacturer to do it but that eats time that the Secret Service would rather use instead of waiting for the lab results. It's not like a PC where you can just pull the power and remove the HD and put it in a new PC as a slave drive. Though wiping it makes it look suspect. How about a remote Nuke, Pave, and Decoy Data to remove suspicion.
Is it that hard to see that Nintendo announced or leaked info about having a 3DS coming out in 6 months to a year and the next quarter the hand held sales are down? Who in their right mind would buy the current hardware knowing that the future hardware is about to come out and soon. Nintendo doesn't even need to beat out the Apple App store since they already have a decent store for the Wii it shouldn't be too hard to port over the functionality that they already have. As much as Apple might have some games for their cute little iPhone and iPad get real. I wasn't that impressed with the DS having a touch screen but at least it had buttons. I can just imagine breaking my Android in Game Over rage, and I don't think apple customers would be immune to that ether.
I use Qwest DSL and have used several other ISP's over the years with it you can look at the list yourself if you want. Though that just makes billing weird with half going to the DSL provider and half to the ISP.
I've always been under the impression that Open Source made profit from Support and Certifications. Unless they are completely free and then they make money off the donations from the public like a monk. I could be wrong but I don't really know of any other ways to make money with Open Source. Support always sounds like a protection racket though and certifications like a con.
It also ran without any commercial breaks which also made it seem more genuine to the people who tuned in late. The exaggerated level of panic is the only thing that was an urban legend.
Why even mention the 360's use of DirectX 9 and ignore that the other systems. The other consoles all use a custom built version of OpenGL. If the PC had a version of OpenGL that was just as advanced as the PS3 and Wii then maybe the game developers wouldn't have to learn a new graphics language like DirectX just to write a decent game. But no MS forced out OpenGL and with it all the developers who don't really want to learn another langauge and are just fine learning a few custom OpenGL extensions. So the rub has nothing to do with DirectX being used to target but that OpenGL is the primary target of game developers and DirectX is meaningless to most save for the 360.
