  1. Re:Games... on Sony To Release PSP Handheld Console In 2004 · · Score: 1

I only know NURBS allow for models to curve more naturally than polygons. It seems that since the PS couldn't push many polygons, and this is higher resolution than the PS, making characters out of a few NURBS would look better than a few polygons. As for the optical drive, the disks are smaller than a Gamecube disk, 60mm compared to 80mm. The disks are protected by a casing too. This protection means the disks could be made thinner too. Thus the disc takes less energy to spin up so the battery lasts longer, while allowing for full voice or video, if the developer desires. I suspect the PSP will retail for $200 or 150 at release. This kind of technology doesn't come cheap. At that price, and with the GBA well entrenched, Sony will have to bring something remarkable to market. That something is PS-level polygons, combined with modern texture processing, NURBS for nice looking organic characters, plenty of voice and music, and video.

Is it possible that the founding fathers lived in an environment where all valid religions were based on one god, and so there was no reason not to use God in some important government documents?

  3. Re:Microsoft shouldn't block this... on Play PSX Games On Your Xbox · · Score: 1

A PS2 still will not render PS games at 640x480 because the 33MHz chip from the PS is doing the rendering. Rendering at 640x480 up from 320x240 is four times as many pixels on the screen. That would make racing games actually playable for me. I can't race a PS game when I'm staring a a 3x3 block in the center trying to determine if that is a left or right turn. 6x6 would help. Anyone know if the xbox renders at 640x480? Will it render N64 games at 640x480? California Speed is one of my favorite arcade racing games. I own it for the N64, but to play it at 640x480 would be so much better.

This is going to make going to the amusement park into even more of a hastle than it already is. Besides, the parks try and take in as much money as possible, not keep the lines short. Unless short lines bring in more money, which is true but only to a point. People will wait in lines for so long before they get pissed.

In California bicyclists are legally allowed to take up an entire lane. It is out of courtesy that most stay to the right and let motorists pass instead of making every car in that lane go their speed. Maybe people in cars should be courteous and just stick to the center of their lane and let motorcyclists pass between the lanes when they can. You could argue its dangerous and I'll tell you the lanes are 12' as a margin of safety. Therefore all cars and trucks should have a legislated maximum width. I propose the width of a Ford Focus as the maximum. All future SUVs will have to narrow by a foot. In exchange motorcyclists may no longer ride between cars.

Well since this guy is only going for terrorist-grade quality its entirely possible he'll hit his $5000 price point. If the terrorists get a pickup truck to a quiet road 26 miles away in Fremont CA with the missile in the back, they hit 70mph, fire the missile, and 4.5 minutes later San Francisco just got hit with 22lbs of anthrax or radioactive material. We'd better hope the defenses at Travis AFB 41 miles away can scramble a SAM there quickly enough.

Having spent the afternoon reading almost all of his site I've got a theory on why he's building this. He needs to raise 100K for a third-generation prototype of his X-jet engine that I bet will power the cruise missile. Most of his site is about his experiments with pulse-jet engine technology. He's done some impressive things and improved on the design enough that he has or applied for a patent. This engine has impressive possibilities even including civilian aviation. I'm sure his $5000 cruise missile will attract plenty of attention and hopefully funding. His technology is not ready for use in a manned plane. Making a drone is pointless because it could only compete on price. The cruise missile is the best option I think for what he is trying to do, which is design a new engine.

They have different goals, designs, and rocket engines to suit each vehicle. How much of their knowledge is really compatible is unknown. More importantly, these tech industry guys aren't footing the entire bill themselves. Certainly John Carmack isn't paying for everything. You suggest Paul Allen and Bezos should pay for everything just because they can? Even if they did it might not stop Carmack from continuing with his own company funded by VCs. If not Carmack than another guy with big dreams of becoming as wealthy as Bezos and thinking he could do better for cheaper. Like most of these articles say, this isn't a cheap undertaking. Its merely cheap enough that billionaires and a group of millinaires can afford to try. At any rate, if Armadillo Aerospace's design scales up and succeeds, I think Carmack would like to change his status from millionaire to billionaire. That won't happen if Allen and Bezos do the funding thus getting the fame and fortune from it.

How old are those pictures? Could they be mockups or just uncompleted prototypes? If a company was working on the engines, or wanted to show what the final product will look like, I can see them photoshopping some things. This is the same company that a week ago announced what they were doing, and then said they weren't looking for any funding, and were returning to work in secrecy. You could claim they have no product at all, but more likely they wanted to grab some fame and then go back to work. IIRC the carrier plane has already flown one test.
