Did the two systems launch at the same time in Japan, though? If not, to really be fair you'd need to compare the two systems' numbers based on x months since their respective launches, not just March numbers or 2005 totals.
I didn't follow the Japanese launches so I don't know what the timeline was there.
I've played in videogame competitions with cash prizes, though not Diablo 2 (I've never played it). I've also played in games and enjoyed having a high score or ladder rank - things I assume Diablo 2 has.
The point is, any sport or game becomes unfun for those competing fairly when others compete unfairly.
Hey, why get mad at Sammy Sosa for using a corked bat while you're at it? Or get mad at bodybuilders who use steroids? After all, they are just competing on their own terms - why get mad at them?
Let's take QuakeIII for example. It has a mediocre, shitty storyline..
Um, Quake 3 was a multiplayer tournament game (the single player mode is simply a tutorial that simulates multiplay). That's like complaining that Marvel vs Capcom or Mario Kart's storyline was a little thin. There is no story, just a setting for multiplayer action.
Uhm, maybe because those aren't game engines? The Doom 3 engine will be used to make more games than just Doom 3, after all. Tech demo screensavers are just screensavers.
I've only played Zelda, but I can't imagine using a dual shock or the insanely large standard Xbox controller (never used the small version) to play that game. The controller works really, really well for it. But it would probably suck for a FPS or, definitely, a fighting game.
An estimated 7% of the initial PS2s released have a problem which will eventually cause the laser to fail. Look it up, it's been in the (gaming) news quite a bit.
I don't know if that would really work well. Admittedly, I only have Zelda for my GC, but I can't imagine using a handheld with all those buttons, two analog sticks and a d-pad. And I can't imagine playing Zelda without them!
Very odd. I've had experience with 4 different DVD players, and all have been able to play VCDs. Even my first Panasonic, which was a first-generation player... Maybe I was just lucky.
Also, I meant store-bought VCDs, not home-burned ones. I don't know the compatibility with those.
Don't forget Alpha Centauri! It's a sci-fi version of Civ, with better graphics and interface than Civ2. A really, really good game. And you can get it for $9.99 or less on the budget racks of most stores.
You do know that DVD has the fastest market penetration EVER, right? Faster than any other consumer electronic device ever... There were something like 50 million DVD players sold in 2002 alone. Also, a large percentage of PCs play DVDs. PS2s play DVDs, as do Xboxs. The PS3 will almost undoubtedly play DVDs as well.
It's the standard now, people like it and when they come out with a DVD2, I'm sure it will play standard DVD discs - much like 99% of DVD players also play VCDs.
Based on all that, I sincerely doubt DVD will disappear to the point where you won't be able to find a player in 20 years.
Beyond that, remeber - you can still buy LaserDisc(!) players and they REALLY never caught on with the general public.
Other than that, though - great comments! Very interesting.

They mean content/activities that you do after you reach the maximum level... new goals to replace the goal of levelling up.
Indeed : it's not actually a wavebird. WHOOPS!
The wavebird has rumble support.
I recharge the batteries in mine like every 6 months at most.
That's assuming you are still using the same PC in 5 years AND you haven't had a HDD failure or anything like that...
Anyone remember Space Hulk? This reminds me of that... Which is cool, that was a fun game.
I'll consider the PSP's battery life+UMD-shooting a draw with N-Gage's horribly convoluted game changing requirements.
Apparently the newer NGages solved this problem, so you'll mark that as a win for NGage?
The only reason legislation like this is needed is because of the DMCA. Without THAT, aftermarket companies could simply make cheaper cartridges.
Should it be illegal for Apple to _not_ sell their product to someone?

Nintendo is, I believe, the only console where you can play the uncensored, nudity-included version of BMX XXX.

Huh? There are plenty of rated R movies. Matrix Reloaded for one...
Yeah, cos my CD walkman (120 hours from a single set of batteries, never skips, 170g weight) is so unportable. :)
Yeah, and my watch battery lasts over a year, too.
Unless your walkman has an LCD screen, a 3D processor and RAM, it's not really a fair comparison.

Huh? All three Radio Shacks near my house still sell components.
Wil is definitely a geek. He learned HTML & PHP so he could create his web site himself, and has written at least one magazine article about Linux.

Seriously - this is a really good game.

Or if you aren't drawing enough power from your USB hub/dasiychained device.
