Is it possible to use something like an Audigy 2 to emulate MT-32 on some of the older titles? I was never sure if this was possible or not, and I always wanted to play through some Sierra and Lucasarts stuff using that card. Im not very familiar with MIDI, so forgive me if I sound uneducated in this department.
Anyone remember these for the PC? They looked like a answering machine, and connected via parallel cable, IIRC. I know they were meant to work with Disney games such as The Rocketeer and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but I think they had limited availabilty for use with some Sierra Online games too. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Its no better with Verizon. Same greedy bullshit, my Droid data plan is $30 a month and I pay an extra $10 just to have 500 out-of-Verizon text messages to my few friends left on AT&T. Its easier to pay $10 for 500 and use 250 than it is to pay.10 per and need to use 250 and get screwed. Text messsaging is one of the biggest rackets in all of cellular communications.
I think this might be overly hyped, at least in the USAF's case, too much. I seriously have my doubts that Sony PHYSICALLY could not supply them with units to replace their broken machines (meaning fat PS3s). It would be amazing to me that Sony does not have the equipment to, and would not agree to, simply "revert" the OS for replacing and units that are to be supplied as replacements for the military cluster. This isn't Joe Smith from Anytown, USA, that we are talking about here. A major buyer, such as the US government, would surely get special treatment. Granted, I have no proof to back this up, but it seems highly logical.
Ubisoft will pick you idea up immediately, provided you have a long, cumbersome, and complex DRM scheme. That way, they never have to worry about the customer actually experiencing your game.
It seems like an interesting idea anyhow. There are all those gimmicky "dream interpretation" books and whatnot available all over the place that anyone can buy. What credentials make this guy the uber-dream interpreter?
When I was a kid, I thought the young John Connor hacking ATMs and locked keypad doors was the coolest thing ever on that Atari laptop-type thing he had going. They made it seem feasible enough, just seemed to pound away random numbers until it hit the code. However, IIRC, it "locked" numbers into a final code when it hit them correctly. That seemed dubious. Oh wait, the whole movie did!
Does anyone else out there enjoying saying it like "NUMB - THREE - Rs"? My friends and I have done that for so long that when I see it written like that (lame attempt to cash in on L33T speak, I always thought), I don't even think "Numbers" anymore. Off topic, I know, but it came right to mind. I know we can't be alone on this!
Killing the eco-system doesn't have to be whole-sale slaughter. All you have to do is knock over one part of the food-chain. It doens't even have to mean the end of life in the ocean. The wrong algea start to grow out of control, and you have plenty of life, and also death at the same time.
From this post:
On top of the coral reefs already dying, on top of fish stocks already being over fished, on top of the plastic we have been dumping whole sale in to the ocean.
For a word you love to use so much, you sure can't seem to pick a spelling. Wholesale is all one word. Just pointing that out. I honestly don't know why I picked up on that, but it really stuck out to me. Sorry, didn't mean to troll, and not usually a grammar Nazi.
A nice segment of the book Game Over: Press Start To Continue by David Sheff covered this story about the naming of Mario, as well as the naming of Donkey Kong. It's actually quite a good read for anyone into gaming from around 1975-1990. I've read it twice so far myself.
I have yet to see a 3D movie and want to be sure that my first experience with one is "proper". Is there some way to know if a movie was shot for 3D, or only done in post production? Maybe IMDB or something?
Allow me to play Devil's Advocate for a moment here...
They could always only refund or reimburse customers who actually EVER BOTHERED TO USE THE FEATURE. Theres been a ton of complaints on this, and it seems highly unlikely that many those of complaining ever have or ever would use the "Other OS" feature. I'm sure Sony could somehow determine if you had another OS installed at the time of the update that removed said feature, and hence removed your 2nd OS. That way, they would truly be compensating those who lost something they were using.
I understand that all of us, including myself, paid for this feature when I/we bought the units. However, I can't seem to force myself to be upset about this. I don't feel as though I lost anything. It just seems fair to make it right with those who were wronged, and I don't feel as though I'm among them. If this leads to more people, such as Geohot, hacking at the console, maybe it will pay off for everone in the end and be much more open than Sony's "Other OS" option?
Does anyone here on/. have any views or experience with Atlantic BB along these lines? Meaning, have you ever head of caps per month, or received any type of warnings for such? I have to admit, I'm guilty of using torrents on occasions (far from 24/7 basis, more like 2 days a month), but I mostly just game online and browse.
Its becoming a bit of a problem, because I would like to downgrade my service but I don't want to deal with a cap or anything. The prices have been going up and up over the past two years, with nothing new to offer recently than Lifetime and E! in HD, so I would like to offset the cost of my internet cost while keeping all of my HD stations. $190 a month for 2nd tier internet access, HD package with HBO (only $5 extra), and two DVRs (its very necessary in our house to have them, with two girls under 10). Could potentially save a bit going with the basic tier internet, but I don't want to handicap myself without knowing what I'm asking for.
I'd hate to keep throwing money at them if they keep use it to add junk stations. Regardless, its hard to get a real view on their internet access because its quite hard to find someone else that uses Atlantic BB and knows what they're talking about. Most of my friends use Verizon DSL, and other people at work have Atlantic but just take the "Hey, thats what it costs so I pay" mentality. Anyhow, hope theres a fellow Atlantic BB'er out there who can offer a point of view!

Now everyone is following suit. Comcast, and Cox have, and are (Cox in June) dropping Usenet.
Atlantic Broadband dropped them at the end of April, might as well add to the list.

What do you mean? She was the ugliest old white woman I ever saw!

And you have even more extreme versions; for example, Mercenaries 2's multiplayer being turned off after only 1.5 years.
Well that sucks, I was just about to get back into Mercenaries 2 to finish up the trophies. Damn it. Learn something depressing everyday I guess.
Nokia Symbian
This name always bothered me. Its way too close to Sybian.
Sybian
Let me be the first:
Doooooooommmmmmmmmmmmme!

This is Numb3rs' description of how IRC works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2rGTXHvPCQ [youtube.com]

They have to back all that information up somehow. Its all in .arj format stored across MULTIPLE volumes!

A healthy supply of quarters/tokens and FCM (Finger Cramp Management).
All I needed was a quarter.

Is there a list somewhere on the net of some examples of the various games that fit into NP, PSPACE and NP-Hard? It'd be an interesting read.

After I had clicked to read this story, the advertisement on the right is Verizon's "No borders, no boundries" ad. Got a good laugh out of the one.

EMM386!! Origin games were notorious for their requirements when it came to memory management in DOS. Ugh!
