That's nuts if even true. I am in India right now with Kindle iPhone, and it all looks the same price to me...so why would anyone "international" even go that route? None of Amazon's logic makes sense when looked at through the iPhone app...
But apparently they break down. Demonoid has been out of commission for about a month now. If we loose many more, then torrents will be a bear to find/comment on/etc. I think the copyright freaks are winning...
In the old America, institutions like IBM were expected to provide jobs, benefits, and in general, social welfare for all in the community. There used to be a word for it (that had meaning): good corporate citizen. As someone who grew up in Poughkeepsie, I can attest to the fact that during the 50's, 60s, and 70s, IBM was a good corporate citizen. Our high school had a mainframe, and we learned to program using keypunch machines. My dad retired there, and even though he is gone, my mom is still living with the best medical benefits you can imagine, as well as a decent monthly check.
Of course this is "costly and inefficient." But there was a time in America when the relationship between worker and work was not just controlled by the bottom line, but there was a more humane side to capitalism. That system no longer exists, but for those with short memories or are too young to understand, it once did. You can't change the way things were. Today, it seems there are hangers on to the old way, and those just born into the newer one, hence the rub and ill feelings in the Mod Hudson Valley. That area saw a rise in growth and prosperity based on the achievements of IBM workers, and then saw a downturn that never rose up again after IBM management changed to the likes of Robert W. Moffat.
The downtown mall went from being a vibrant shopping and meeting area, to a crack house. The school system went from being one of the best, to the lowest of the low, and people fled in droves once there wasn't a good corporate citizen around to provide what they wanted.
What happened in that one small river valley has happened all over America, and I fear she is now ruined beyond repair. The greed inherent in American society has finally conquered the good that was once more deeply ingrained.
This forum is somewhat unique, in the sense that by reading the posts everyday for several months, I get the impression this is a very nasty place. Slashdot has good pointers to important issues (but not all that original), and the aggregate of comments are conflicting on any given topic. In this case, it seems that there is a general consensus that people oppose organized efforts to enforce copyright on music and movies, but also oppose an individual artist who actually tries to do something about it. Add the "Care and Feeding" post on almost every thread, and the appearance of a nasty place is enforced. Still, I just gotta vistit here everyday:)
What's driving my dog crazy, Krypto, is me NOT having a feature that shuts down the computer when I have sat behind the screen so long that his bladder is about to burst and he needs to go out for a walk - bad. When that proximity detector is available, let us know.
I was not trying to be judgmental, just factual. But living so close to the Chinese border I tend to see more junk then most. iTunes is great if you learn/adjust to it.But I lean towards organized chaos on computers...
That coward is on crack sbrach, it's true u can use finder or explorer to drag files to the ipod/iphone (must be in some form of disk mode), but ur not going to be able to listen to a music file on the iPod/iPhone unless you have iTunes or perhaps another iPhone app if using the Touch or iPhone. These devices are not 'drag and drop raw mp3 files and then listen" like so many cheap Chinese players. But you can use an iPod/iPhone as a thumb drive if you want:)
@whippingboy: that all may be true, but the reality of the people on the ground is that there are drones flying overhead and bombs going off and it's not clear why. The question to where in the world is Osama Bin Laden has not been answered with anything but mayhem and carnage to innocents. "The sooner the troops will be gone" is counted in years, this is what all Americans must realize and is what all others understand. It does not matter if Generals have carte-blance or not, even a little bit blance does a lot of damage, and has done so for the past several decades in the region. Everyone appreciates Obama's message, but the few trust it, and have long ago run out of a wait and see attitude. Now it's just wait and see the bombs burst. Its time for a massive pull-out and a re-think...the current aid package being prepared for Pakistan is not sitting well with the Pakistani people, for good reason. They know what's tied to the aid...and they know what comes next.
Coming from someone who lives too close to Pakistan for comfort, you are stretching here:...the world views the U.S. in a much more positive light. This part of the world is just breathing a bit easier that we are not going to get nuked out of existence during the next 3 years...perhaps. That's some pretty dark admiration for the US Goverment. Now, as far as the American people go, we love 'em, but we think everyone is like they are on the TV that we get here (Star World = Bay Watch, Scrubs, & The Simpsons). On the ground, Obama has lost a lot of credibility right off the bat for his support of troops to Afghanistan & Aid Money to Pakistan. We have all seen the pirated DVD "WHERE IN THE WORLD IS OSAMA BIN LADEN?" and don't see anything happening in the US Congress or White House this term to be anything of an improvement worthy of the Nobel Peace prize. But how about that DREW BREES from New Orleans!
Thank Buddha Comcast is not in Nepal, as they would have to send out a notice daily to every single windows subscriber here. I suspect India, Burma, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives would be the same. It's a one-world multi-botnet internet on this side of the globe. And for the most part, users here could care less. Asians are a very community type (some would say hive-type) people. We'll do our part for the skynet cause. Comcast doesn't have a mantra in the bardo of stopping us.
Maybe a little over 50%? And then within the other 50% there has been testing on less then half of that? And then on those tested, there are numbers of inconclusives? Still seems you have to be one of the lucky few.
Well what's worse, is that even though there has been no testing or there is not status, the routers are still listed in the tables. For example, we are a SMC nation (http://oldwiki.openwrt.org/Hardware%282f%29SMC.html) and there, none (of 10 models) are marked as supported and most status fields are blank. However, it's a valiant effort, just not useful for us.
Really? I thought there was a short list of routers that are open enough to run DD/Open-WRT. The last time I checked, none of routers were compatible. Would be nice however.
I don't know what I am anymore and I've done UI in both Flash and other systems. I don't think Flash is very efficient, that's the problem I have with it. And there are a lot of developers mucking with Flash code that probably should be doing something else:)
Apparently it's another notation altogether, the photo on the linked article (http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/images/mathilde2_s.jpg) shows an asteroid that is at least 40km across or more. So that must be Giants Stadium that they are measuring. Wtf?
Now here is a/. that I could wrap my arms around: pointers to research, tools, and good news. The country I live in comes up no evidence of filtering whatsoever. The Psiphon open source so far only has a windows installer/instructions as far as I can tell, but I guess as a project this may grow into something we can all use for protection...hard to see it right now however...more testing needed.
Main article? All these "articles" on/. are nothing more then rehashes of rehashes of real news articles, and in this case it was broken days before on New Scientist (perhaps even before that on some other rag). Nowadays, I read an interesting article from a reputable feed and wonder when it's going to hit here, all botched and twisted. Oh well...

Exactly! First you write about the Jump-To-Conclusions mat and then some engineer builds it. Isn't that what happened with the escalator and A. Clarke? Sheesh...500 words...any good bullshit artist can do that in less then 30 minutes. Is that too much to ask from the next breed of military industrial complex think tankers?
No need to go back that far, just look at the first IPCC assessment report issued by the UN. Then look at the second, third, and subsequent. The initial report concluded that natural causes are to blame. Then read what Nils-Axel MÃrner, the leading Swedish paleogeophysicist has to say about the UN fudging the numbers in later reports. Then read the recent IPCC report, and note that the #1 concern is cow farts. Thus conclude it's all about bullshit.
Maybe they did plan it...nothing better to get users to another OS then to scare the bejesus out of them re: their PayPal accounts. Thx/., where "who knows if any of it is true."

It's all whinging that passes off as entertainment in the "Office." Quit whining and be your own boss.

The bar has been lowered. You can now win the prize by moving troops out of one destroyed country, and into two others - pending destruction.
