I would speculate whether or not this is because of the cost or the freedom.
I know they have better things to spend money on than client licenses for MS stuff. I do think its a great push for linux worldwide BUT I would just happen to think the free as in speech part is just a plus for not having to pay (as much w/ TCO).
Either way, I wish our own government would use linux. As it would be a great push away from the monopoly that they "punished".
Trust me, shooting over the water isn't the easiest thing in the world. If the water is relatively calm, the signal maybe bounce and give problems.
This situation would be OK because I doubt the ocean is going to become calm enough to cause problems but the seismic activity would throw a huge wrench in the operation. It would be wise to have a motorized mount that automatically calculates the best shot to the other tower recalibrating when signal is lost.
Yeah because there's nothing like running a business that does over a hundred thousand dollars a day in transactions off of some turd who bought a book and now thinks he's god of root.
Crimony folks, you kind of need experience to do these things well. Kinda like plastic surgery; you may get it cheaper, but look at what you're risking. Your poor wife may come out with crooked boobs!;)
I think everyone would be stunned if Bill Gates had sex.
wouldn't you?;)

I'd imagine the suspension is adjustable in the front. Air bags or coil over or something where it would actually bring the front end down and the back end up at least to the same height if not higher than the front.
Either way, when my car hits 130mph and I'm feeling kinda scared, I don't think I could handle going much faster than that. Besides, RWD at 200mph? a little lite in the back end would be DAMN scary/dangerous!
Actually, i find it amusing that people doing something considered illegal (at least the people that file share the pirated software/music) can whine about agreeing to a EULA and it having something they don't like later.
Not that I like it at all, but i noticed a long time ago that this was going on and removed all the contents of their programs and its leftovers.
Very true. I just figured if a lot of people are being told about how WarDriving is great fun, it would be better for them to stick to RFMon so half the people I know don't go to jail after someone starts calling cops. ( yes i know war driving is not illegal but people have been arrested for less )
I like the Cisco because of the -95dBM sensitivity, dual antenna jacks, and 100mW transmit.
It should be known that there are cards that can "just listen" without letting themselves be known.
Cisco makes the AIR-LMC350 which would be a good choice for wardrivers.
Or, not being an idiot administrator and leaving everything open helps too;)

If you want to get Microsoft to fix something, you don't just say it exists. Thats been proven before. Don't you remember them being told that their OS has holes and them denying the holes existed?
If anything this will get their eyes open on the hole.
It would be interesting to see the speed and distance limitations. Considering a fully equipped DSLAM is costing a half a mil or so, serving this might be a cheaper route.
Anyone have an equipment manufacturer name or link?
I switched to the Apple desktop when OS X was in beta and 9 was king.
It worked great for running high end audio programs (thanks to the ppc architecture) but it was hard to get work done on one mouse button and without knowing the guts of the machine. OS X kept me on the Mac for a little bit longer but by then my G4-500 was showing its age.
I've recently ordered a PC (should be here sometime) to run linux on. Its going to cost about 400 less than I paid for my G4-Cube but with a 4" larger monitor, more RAM, hdd etc.
I've been using Ximian-Gnome at work with 8 virtual desktops and now I can't live without that feature. So when the PC comes in, I'll snatch out the OS, and put on RH and get to business!
Sorry Apple but its too expensive and doesn't have the niche features I need!
If they change their IP address blocks then I can change the ones I block. And I personally can't afford a lawyer to fight them. Besides, I don't like drones taking up bandwidth on my network angering my customers.
A way out of this is to have a webcasting radio station that plays only artists that are not involved with the RIAA. I know of a few hundred artists that aren't and I'm sure there would be plenty of content.
I hear all this stuff going on about people bitching but CD sales are still happening. A lot of you guys still buy CDs.
Support the people that make money without the RIAA and the artists will be happy, and the RIAA will not.
shameless plug->
check out my band here: there will be another 8 mp3's posted next week after we record this weekend.

In related news... The U.S. government flunked a computer-security review for the third consecutive year

ahh man life could not get sweeter!!!
hush your mouth. they wouldn't buy anything!

I doubt seriously he got OS X running on his PC...
or a Mac OS X for that matter..
if he did however... that would be a completely different story.
I don't want to hear anyone else bitch about how the users on slashdot don't read the story before they post.
Reason being? The people posting the story don't even read Slashdot stories.
This is yet again another repeat.
actually put together all the money of everyone involved in anyway with open source and/or linux and you'd have a lot of money.
;)
especially with IBM involved
hehe
oh well. most of us code for the love and challenge as opposed to a paycheck from billy boy. thats horrible isn't it?
jesus. next thing you know, there will be people having sex only with the person they love!
DHCP on the AP. It uses its external IP with NAT, and asigns the other addresses with the 10.x.x.x network.
Give it an extremely broad subnet and you could have plenty of people off 1 single access point. With only 1 IP on the internet side being used.
It would not only not require a fan but will keep the laptop offerings from Apple from being lap burning machines.
Plus this could yield higher speeds by not needing the cooling, but adding cooling and cranking the speed up.
Either way, their major focus should be getting the speed up higher.
I hate to bring you the bad news, but, VPN Passwords aren't secure on a wireless LAN or a hubbed network.
It would only take a good cracker about 45 minutes to get the password.
And if RFMon was used, you wouldn't even know it.
-cheers
Thats only if you buy one of the cripled computers in the first place.
I highly doubt everyone is going to rush out and purchase the "latest and greatest" when you have Palladium built into it.
Buy a brand new PC, top of the line, 1 month before they release the technology. Badda-bing!
I have a feeling people are going to break this technology, firewall it, or circumvent it somehow before it hurts us that much.
I already knew you had those cards, and I know what your access point is. I'm sending messages to your refrigerator to never turn off the ice-maker. ;)
j/k

My ISP might be interested...

I work for an ISP also and would like their network information so I could pass it along to the boss to block.
Does anyone have their IP blocks?
Just because they gave the DOJ a handjob doesn't mean we can't get around that.

Fiber or Ethernet?
Token ring FDDI or 1000BaseT?
Would be nice to have a dorm full of fiber.
Ripping session of the latest CD's will now be done at the same place the rice rockets hang out.
...
Not particularly useful unless you could get the data out of the car (firewire HDD or CD-R). Ripping is soooo much faster on a PC anyways.
Not to mention the safety factor of some loser on a cell phone and ripping CD's and tweakin the knobs on the amp all while "driving"
