Innovation on Apple stalled when Steve Jobs died. Now Apple is copying its own products over and over again.
Sadly, most smartphone manufacturers still think Apple as an innovator, and are afraid of breaking out of the rat race of copying everything Apple does.
I quite liked the Windows 3.11 GUI. I hated the 95 GUI. I hated the 98 GUI. I hated the XP GUI. I hated the Vista GUI. I hated the Windows 7 GUI. As for the Windows 8, well, I never used it. But Windows 10... I think this is the first time I actually enjoy using Windows. As for the GUI design goes, Windows 10 is the best Microsoft has ever done. But that is unfortunately only a pretty cover; what is under the cover is still a horrible mess, Microsoft-style.
My dream phone would be one with a Windows (Metro) frontend build on top of an Android backend.
I really think the Metro design was, at least in theory, much better than the IOS/Android basic design ideas. Of course MIcrosoft did make a horrible blunder with the Metro design in Windows 8, which put many people off (me included at the time)
Setting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager\SilentInstalledAppsEnabled to 0 seems to do the same trick at least on Win10 Home
I've already disabled Cortana on Windows 10 and Google Assistant on Android, Alexa is just yet another privacy-invading annoying ass-istant to disable...
Forget Star Trek and such!
Gerry Anderson's "Thunderbirds" and later, "Space:1999" were the defining sci-fi series of my childhood. Martin Landau as John Koenig was, and still is, my hero!
Actually, my first "kludge" for the RAM pack stabilisation was more successful - a piece of 2mm aluminium plate and two 3mm bolts tying the two cases together. In retrospect, should have left it as such instead of trying to solder the ribbon cable...
My first computer was a Sinclair ZX81 back in '82. I still have it in the basement... Unfortunately it didn't work any more after an attempt to solder the infamously wobbly 16k RAM pack in place with a ribbon cable.
Neither do I care. My only windows-using computer is staying at 7. Windows 10 doesn't offer anything I would be interested in. If / when it becomes impossible to continue using Windows7, or possibly much earlier, I'll wipe the hard drive and install Linux instead. The rest of my computers have been already using Linux (Gentoo) since... about year 2000
Building PC's by yourself, for gaming or not, is half the fun. Be thankful that you CAN build those and choose the components for yourself, instead of having to settle for ready-made computers like Apple cr*p!
Charles Babbage's "Difference Engine" created much controversy in its time, but his equally ingenious "Indifference Engine" was received with... "meh".
...and 120 film, too:). I have a bunch of old cameras, both for 35mm film and 6x6. I regularly use them, and develop my own B&W films, and make prints, too. Its much, much, much, MUCH more fun than using digital cameras, although I admittedly take more photos with my digital.
A few years back I was very surprised to find that there wasn't any 'Tape Calculator Emulators' for Linux. I seem to have missed this; thanks for bringing this to attention! (Although it seems to be more-or-less abandoned project... I wonder whether it compiles on modern Gentoo?).
I don't. I never used it. Period.

(silence...)
(silence continues...)
To us Finns, silence is not a lack of conversation, it is an art form. (Yes, I am Finnish, too)
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree.

Just... don't see the why?
Smarphone innovation is already stagnated, because everyone is blindly copying Apple (even Apple itself)

The one and original "Alien" (1979). Nothing comes even close...

I think that might lead us to a conclusion that: "If you have an Instagram feed, you'll develop depression eventually"

Right, that's *exactly* what I'm doing, too. Besides, I still have LP's and a turntable - although I haven't used it for... say, five years.
Facebook is shifting its attention to video - and I am shifting my attention farther and farther away from Facebook.

Slide rule?

I definitely wouldn't switch distros for just to play games via Steam. If Valve chooses that route, I will not use Steam, ever!
I've ALWAYS wanted to paint my car pink and put 'Hello Kitty' stickers on it!!! Now I have a perfect excuse for doing it :)
(Then again, I've wanted to give a similar treatment to my shotgun... Should I be worried???)
What amazes me most is that someone actually buys something protected by hardware dongles...??? I wouldn't. Ever.

The tape calculator I have used for some time is SuperbCalc: http://www.mariottini.net/roberto/superbcalc/. It is java-based, so it will run on all OS'es.
