I had the occasion, several years ago, to meet a slightly deranged maniac named Bob Truax who had built a 40' rocket that supposedly was capable of reaching orbital flight. He had designed it so it was capable of carrying a payload of about 100 kilos into a low orbit but his main problems included access to the nessesary fuels, and finding a "Little Person" who was as deranged as he was. The available cockpit space was less than 30 cubic feet, about the sixe of a medium sized refrigerator. He called his machine the Volksrocket, and it was ready for launch back in 1981 I think. I have wondered what ever happened to this guy....
This is not anything new, I have several of these in a wooden box with spray foam wrapped around them. They are filled with 1,1,1 trichlorethylene and shatter easily when thrown. The chemical acts similiar to halon in that it breaks the O2/fuel/heat triangle that fire needs to burn. These were not very effective in that the fire often overwhelmed the capacity of the glass bomb and it also released the TCE in a gas that was pretty lethal. these bombs were made back in the 1920's for small fires like one would see in a kitchen and were very common. They were outlawed in the 1950's because of the fume factor and the general incompetence of the users rendered them ineffective. Funny they are coming back. The Thai are going to learn a hard lesson with these....

People, I made a continuous firing rubber band gun that held 1000 rubber bands and was fired by turning a little crank. It took about an hour to load and would empty in about 30 seconds. This is the general trend in automated manufaturing systems anyway, the ever increasing rate of production and the need to reduce overhead costs have always conflicted. To still be able to telemeterize whole systems to minimize downtime could use a small self contained unit such as this.
I have always been interested in a CNC machine tool control system that would run on linux. as the current systems all run on purely propriatary operating sysyems or even (gag) M$ win98 or some such, it would be nice to run an open source control as the current controls are bulky and often designed by engineers or computer software companies with no concept of real world necessities or possibilities. A completly open-source, compact control would be a blessing to every real machinist out there.

Young male humans have a desperate need to assert themselves and establish their place in their society. Be that the "stoners" "punks" "Jocks" "gangstas" etc. What is missing is meanginful leadership in their own little society. This had traditionally come from Teachers, Parents AND POLITICAL LEADERS. The Office of the President had once been an office of, at the very least, begrudging respect coupled with a healthy dose of skeptisism on the part of the citizenry. Psychpaths like Nixon and Reagan made it into and office of prostitution, spreading it's economy to the highest bidder. The children see the actions of the adults around them, how their parents and parents freinds talk about the state of government, and the allegedly elected officials that swindled their way into they're respective offices. The feeling of helplessness that constant bullying brings about is similar to what a larger part of the populace is feeling right now. The absolute knowledge that THEY ARE NOT IN CONTROL. Knowing the bully is all sweetness in front of an authority figure, and will likely not be sanctioned for his/her actions. This is a common view that adults are holding on the Federal Government. Children are naturally very empathetic, and sense the moods of the society they live in. The lack of real substance in the education system is a direct reflection of the Feds unwillingness to support a system that really educates. And this lack of substance is what permits bullying, and permits victimezation of weaker members of society.
A truly democratic education system would not permit this. When I was a kid, firearms in the older kids cars and trucks was common. Rifles, AR-15's were common, and nobody even blinked. When a when a human feels really trapped, he/she will fight, and remove the source of fear. Nobody used a gun in anger when I was in school, and back then, schools were adequatly funded and lead by educators, not corporate need.

Hasn't anyone thought about the fact that burning all that carrion might be contributing to the spread of the outbreak? Wotta joke. All I wanna know is will it run slakware? Can I play Halflife on it? Will it be used to do anything but add another tens of billions of dollars to some corporations bottom line?
