" If something can flow then its liquid NOT a solid. I'm not arguing the physics, I'm arguing the definition of the english words."
I think your missing the point. The point is it defies the definition. If they said they created a fluid that flows that would be a big who cares. Also if they created a solid that doesn't flow no one would care. The whole fact it defies the definition is what makes this interesting. It means we have to change the definition of a fluid now.
But then again it really isn't differant. I can dump a load of gravel with a dumptruck, the gravel is flowing, but it's still a solid and not a liquid. It's more of which the level it defies the definition.
"Mission Control notified astronaut Michael Foale "
They have a leak and they bring in Mike Foale? Why do they need a motivational speaker? Or are things that bad. Further more what kind of rockets have we developed to get Cris Farley up there? Or did he go up by himself in a soyuz?
Didn't your mother ever teach you that you look like more of a fool trying to put words in a persons mouth then they could ever look like with their own words?
I am very open to differant things, what you tried to say I was saying was completely wrong. I could co through and translate what you translated of me, but I won't since I'm not childish.
You are simply upset because someone didn't think your anime was the most super perfect greatest thing ever. There is no way you can challenge that more people dislike/don't carefor anime in the US then people like anime. Otherwise you would see anime all over and all major release cartoon films would be of anime style.
In another 70 years, classic WB cartoons will still be going strong. I highly doubt anime from today will be nearly as strong.
You missed it completely! Good animation is not about detail!! It's about the story, the charators and overall entertainment. The extreme detail of some anime is what makes it such a turn off, just hire freaking actors. Looneytoons is still going strong today because they are what cartoons are ment to be. Animal based charators with non stop comedy. Use of humans in cartoons is going away from the point of cartoons. Hense why most classic cartoons only used humans where needed, or they are part of a storyline with animals. There are some exceptions, but not to many.
In more moderntimes shows like simpsons, futurame, family guy continue traditional cartoons. They may be full of humans but they would not be what they are without the cartoon format. The detail of them doesn't matter, its all the content. Also only the simpsons could even remotely be done with actors, and it would long since be off the air if it was.
If what your are going for is detail, I sugest you check out movies and tv shows with real live actors, the detail of a human being in just great.
Please take that stuff back! Sure it may appeal to a portion of geeks and small children, but by far the majority of the US despises Anime with a passion. Anime is the lowest level of cartooning, it either uses crappy animation, or uses animation that is so far away from traditional animation that it shouldn't be considered as such. Fortently traditional cartoons seam to be making a come back on networks like cartoon network, I think Adult swim only has 2 anime's, still to many.
Mod me down all you want, but someone had to say it. I'm sure I'm not the only person who comes here and see's something on anime on slashdot and ask why oh why is that on here, it just re-enforces stereotypes.
your correct, this isn't new at all. Heavy equipment, trains and ships use the same concept. Its simply a series hybrid. Though many designs like trains don't have battery packs (yet). For vehicles this is nothing new as well. I've worked on a university project that used the same design in a SUV. The only differance being the electric motors were not in the wheels. This was for the reasons you mentioned, the handling will suck. Also I'm guessing their design increases the amount of rotational mass a great deal, also bad.
Aside from putting the motors in the wheels this is nothing new. This is how fuel cell cars work, only they have a differant power source. They have taken a current design and changed it by doing the one thing it was obvious you should not do.
I'm sure a few people where hoping for framed images of Goatse.cx and tubgirl. I thought about giving out a few but I'm more down with tacky and untasteful gifts. Those were just to normal. Maybe thinkgeek will have them on special some day.
honestly how do you expect them to do this. It's the same problem for any commercial app. How are they going to produce a binary that will work on all distros just fine? I'm sure they could produce a gnome GTK version, but I doubt people would be happy about that.
They know they will never make people happy in the linux world with no matter what they do. And really what is going to have a version out there for so few people going to gain them.
"..I pay $50 a month for satellite and I cant even record any TV. Thats bullshit."
You pay to get access to watch it. Nothing about paying that 50 bucks per month is about you being able to record it. What are you complaining about? If you want a copy of it buy it on tape or dvd.........oh, I get it, your made because you can't steal something. Gotcha, I understand now.
You are the reason DRM is coming into existance. If people just paid for things through the proper channels there wouldn't be the pressure for DRM.
They arn't DRMing things that you should be able to copy and do what you want with. They are DRMing things that are ment for people to buy or have limited use of. Now there for sure will be examples to counter this, but thats not the rule. With all things comes some bad apples.
But hey, if all else fails, I doubt they will put DRM on air, water, basic food, shacks in the woods and tinfoil hats.
eh, for cost broadband is pretty cheap when you factor in a phone line and how much you pay for acces. I'm trying to get my parents to get a cable modem because it cost less then their current dial up setup. And they live in the middle of no where and can get a cable modem (granted thats probably more of a rare odity). But at the same time there is very limited dial up service there so they pay over 20 dollars a month for just that.
I currently pay 29 bucks a month for a cable modem. When i consider the cost of a phone line and access it would be silly to go dial up. But then you also need ot be in a area where this is offered. And as we all know internet access varies greatly.
But I think the bulk of people anymore could get broadband for similar price to dialup.
Your correct, it's not a big deal for them to charge that much money. But the problem lies in people who just want to make small apps and sell them for a few bucks. For them QT is not it.
thats part of my desk. I bought a Kitchen table from K-mart, nice big simple one, then got one of those plastic bins underneath. Best computer desk ever. 5x3 feet top, solid, looks nice
I now have 5 rubbermade bins that are about 24x18 inches and 8 inches deep stacked up with stuff. Works good and looks clean. The trick is when you need more being able to find the same ones and the same colors. Damn wal-mart will change the lid cover or something every other week.
These bins are solid and have nice locking handle. They are slightly tinted so stuff doesn't stand out, but you can still see stuff. Then inside i have stuff in smaller bins. Down to pill jars of screws. The main reason for it all is for moving. All the crap just goes with no issue.
I think the other thing for most people is as time goes on they realize they are just hanging on a lot of crap. If you need something just buy it for a few bucks instead of storing it for years and having it be outdated when you need it. I had a bunch of computers, now i'm working towards one. There is more important things then bunches of computers. I think thats how the more adult bit comes into play, once your out of college and get married and stuff you tend to just use a computer as a computer, not mess with it all the time, hense you get rid of all the crap. Unless you got a good place for it.
You ever watch Saturday Night Live with Goatboy and "hey remember the 80's"
Thats about where you were going. Server and dumb terminals just arn't fun. It's easier and cheaper to just have plain boxes around with everything they need. If one breaks no big deal. With the other way one little fuckus can grow quick.
I'm not a chemist, but since I've heard most all chemist say the same thing I'll say basicly what they said.
Mercury vapors are bad, but liquid or solid mercury isn't that big of a deal. As children most everyone who is say 40 years old or younger probably played with mercury in a science class. People would break thermometers on desks and play with the mercury. With so many touching it you would have seen something if it was a problem. Yes if you get enough of it on you for long anough time it can cause a burn, but it doesn't absorb into a person as easy as some make it seam. The problem is when you get the mercury vapor since it will get in your lungs.
I've played with it some myself in school, there really wasn't an issue, just don't eat the stuff or swim in it.
Personaly I think people make mercury out to be bad since it's so much fun to play with, and anything fun is bad for you.
those charts are simply beautiful. The whole webpage and the pages made by those people are beautiful. I very much want to know what was used in making them. I see the group that made them makes web pages for a business so i doubt to many secrets will be revealed. But damn, the look of everything on those pages blew me away. Simply beautiful.
I need to make graphs all the time, i would love to see what they used. Definitly not excel, GP3, matlab. Some how i want to think some special graphics tool was used in conjunture with normal graphing tools. Like they made the curves then imported them into photoshop or something. I just want to find out. They arn't the most useful graphs but are visualy stunning. The look like something that would be used for text books.
you are correct, they are nothing new at all. They have only seen use in plane jane bike like you rent at the beach and so forth. The design is heavy and not very versital. Same as bikes with automatic gearboxes, they just arn't going to take off
I just like to envision Bender from Futurama flying the plane. Robot flying it, Versital, drinking when flying is good, doesn't take shit from passengers.
" Yeah, the taxpayers also help pay for Nittany Lions football (which not everyone watches), concerts at the stadium (which not everyone attends), etc. etc. " No tax payer money goes to fund the football team. In fact in the 6-7 home games each year the profits from ticket sales and so forth pay for all PSU athletics and then some. The university makes money off the football program. No state money is used. In fact you pay less in state taxes because of the football team.
Also there are no concerts at Beaver Stadium, concerts are at the Bryce Jordan Center, which once again makes money for the school.

Mike's parents bad! fuck me! I'm so stupid! I get my own corrections wrong. My life is a waste and will be spent in a van down by the river.
Foale , Foley crap! my bad
Matt , Mike double crap! Matt's parents bad
Them pulling that off might be more impressive then getting is ass into space.

" Aren't most COBOL applications deployed on big iron?"
Yes, but it's old big Iron. So in many , if not most cases, that mainframe can be replaced by a small server or even a desktop.
