To take this even further, why not learn something completely unrelated? Like, say, playing an instrument or painting? Or spend the time you were going to learn to write a novel instead.
Just do something you would never normally do, something that gets your thoughts away from the day job and anything related.
Yes, but cooking at home is time in which you can do very little else simultaneously. At a restaurant, you have much more freedom to do other activities, either socially or through a smartphone/tablet.
I find that it's quite the opposite.
If I'm at a restaurant and waiting for food, what I do is social things like talking, browsing Facebook, reading mail. And that's all. If I cook at home, I can do lots of other stuff besides the social things. For example, I put some thing in the oven, and while it's there I can do lots more than browsing Facebook, like cleaning, go out with trash, and be social with my family and/or Facebook. Heck, I could even watch some TV if I wanted.
The point is, the options of things to do at a restaurant is pretty limited, while there are basically unlimited number of things to do while waiting for food at home.
Some allergies don't depend on environmental factors.
Take me, for example. A couple of years of my childhood I spent some time after school each day on a farm. That included the occasional playing and jumping in the hay. It didn't happen every day, week, or even every month, but it happened and it was damn fun (but really dangerous). Then comes puberty and figuratively from one day to another I developed "hay-fever" and pollen allergies (mainly for grass).
Anecdotal and small sample size and all that, but I really don't think overexposure to grass was the reason, because I wasn't really exposed to it that much. But the exposure I had certainly didn't help me, I developed allergies to it anyway.
What I'm trying to say is that environmental factors, like having a dog, doesn't always play a roll, sometimes there are other factors that makes you develop allergies (genetics, mostly). While having a dog may help, I would get one (or rather, a couple of cats) more for reason that it's good for my kid for other reasons (learning empathy, the natural cycle of life, not hitting people or animals in the head with a spoon, and a damn good company).
An old story arc of the Piranha Club comic involved Ernie Floyd having chimpanzees as maids or drivers. When the maid chimpanzee got pregnant by the driver chimpanzee, it went to court (with Sid Fernwilter as the only licensed monkey lawyer) and Ernie was ordered to pay alimony.
I have an OCZ RevoDrive, bought early 2011, and it works like a charm. The only problems I have with it is when installing a Linux distribution from scratch, but after figuring it out once it works very well.
Maybe I'm one of the lucky few who haven't had a problem with reliability?
Yes I want a car with a spontaneous combustion engine! It might not take me to my destination when I want it to, but it will be very exciting to drive.
If we in Europe would have "thanksgiving" holidays for each good thing that's worth giving thanks for throughout history, some countries would have holiday around 50 weeks of the year.
Though to be honest, that seems to be what some countries do anyway, I mean work only two weeks a year (see e.g. Greece).
As for consoles, fuck those joystick monkey idiots.
It wasn't that many years ago (at least it feels like that, now get off my lawn!) that you needed a joystick to play almost any game on a computer, even PCs.
What really got me was the word "may". So they simply start sending out threats left and right without even bothering to even check if there's any base to the accusations? If a site they threaten is actually licensed, will the organization issue an equally public apology? I don't think so.
And that, dear folks, is the "entertainment industry" for you!
About the backward compatibility thing, since the Xbox One now is basically a specially designed PC, shouldn't it be (in theory at least) possible to make it backward compatible with the first Xbox?
Just to nitpick, but all digital formats are lossy, as you loose data between the samples. You can lessen the "lossyness" by increasing the sample-rate, but it's still not completely loss-less. Only analog is properly loss-less.
It took some time for this old myth appeared. There are many countries with much lower population density that have both cheaper and better broadband in the middle of nowhere, than you have in the middle of NYC.
Reading the Ars Technica review it seems that LG desperately wanted it to be a copy of the Samsung Galaxy S4.
Personally I don't like Samsung (or probably this LG phone) because they change too much from the stock Android version. But I am happy with my Sony Xperia Z1. Very happy in fact, even though there's still some software problems (got update last night though, hopefully it's even better now).
You mean like North Korea just did?

But doesn't e.g. FEDEX "throttle" packages by default? You have to pay extra to get express delivery.
I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening,
All over this land.
I find that it's quite the opposite.

Most, if not all, western European countries have very strong labor laws that largely prohibits both these behaviors.
And if Amazon tries anything like that in France, the workers will throw all boxes into the streets and cause general mayhem.
In any sane country, the customer. In the USA? The wealthiest company even marginally involved (see e.g. this for inspiration).
Traffic tickets in India? Have you seen how they drive there?
Now not paying taxes, on the other hand, that will sure make the authorities wake up and take action.

So does that mean that the Wii U is the only console of this generation that will do 1080p gaming well?

Well MIPS still seems to live strong, at least in the embedded world.

I installed XBMC on mine, and been using it exclusively as a HTPC.
Been thinking about installing MAME or something similar though, but so far I haven't played a single game on mine.
Oh and by the way, even with good ventilation, it gets hot!
