CB and Single Side Band(aka dial-up and DSL) is a relative low quality, extremely cheap, but usable media. However since it's so cheap everyone can join in.
Ever listen to channel 14 on a CB around 8:00pm? You'll hear stuff that would make some of these porn producers blush:). There's little regulation and controls and everyone knows it. If you don't know it, you'll find out soon.
HAM and Shortwave Radio This a licenced media on a seperate frequency. This is probly where Internet 2 will be going. Internet 1 has reached it limit. Internet 1 will soon be written off as reaching it's point of limited return. In other words we're very close to the point that it costs more to get more out of Internet 1 then it is to move to Internet 2.
To get on the 'real' pipe you will have get licenced. If you violate the regulations your licence and IP will be pulled and you'll be dead in the water. Thats where you get the real control on copyright material control.
Cell Phone Finally came a useable Peer2Peer media, cell phone. Cell phone is a simplified communication system; flip and talk. It's a cheap, resonably good quality, well maintained communication media.
Cell now allows you to filter calls based on the name(phone number) of the caller via a universal ID system.
Internet 1 will always have it's dark underside. It will not get better. They, goverment and corperate enities, will let it get worse to force you to new mediums.
Internet 2 will be a closely controlled network but the need for regulations will keep many people off.
A middle ground will be a moderately regulated and controlled peer to peer medium. This new medium will grow for the rest of the world.
The only short-term way around heat in the chip itself is thinner fabs and lower voltages. Long-term you have to use new materials like copper and 4 state transisters.
AMD's 2.1ghz running better and faster then Intel's 2.5ghz. I wonder how Intel's marketing department is going to spin this?
Running at 2.13 GHz, the Athlon XP 2600+ is reviewed at Amdmb.com. The benchmarks show that the new Athlon on a 'revision B' Thoroughbred core with the frequency increase is able to beat out the Pentium 4 2.53 GHz processor on almost every test.
Today's Internet is a poor respecter of national boundaries, as many repressive governments have found to their cost. The idea of the modern internet is to erase boundaries and share ideas. Don't you like to learn and share?
Unfortunately this freedom has been so extensively abused by the United States and its politicians, lawyers and programmers that it has become a serious threat to the continued survival of the network as a global communications medium. So put up some decent sites and unique 'net tools. Do something constructive and make us go ooh and ahh, look at the EuroNet. Sounds more like envy so far, not facts.
If the price of being online is to swallow US values, then many may think twice about using the Net at all, and if the only game online follows US rules, then many may decide not to play. Um, I pay Ameritech by coin every month for my DSL. Don't you dare say I don't pay for my internet. The country BUILT the internet. What the heck have you done?
We have already seen US law, in the form of Digital Millennium Copyright Act, used to persuade hosts in other countries to pull material or limit its availability. They stole stuff! Stealing is stealing. Shut up unless your country doesn't have any copyright laws.
US-promoted 'anti-censor' software is routinely provided to enable citizens of other countries to break local laws; and US companies like Yahoo! disregard the judgements of foreign courts at will. If they're breaking the law, through them in jail. Otherwise get a life, and move on.
Congressman Howard Berman's ridiculous proposal to give copyright holders immunity from prosecution if they hack into P2P networks is the latest attempt by the US Congress to pass laws that will directly affect every Internet user, because no US court would allow prosecution of a company in another jurisdiction when immunity is granted by US law. Okay, I agree with him on this one point. If I break into your house, poke a hole in your ceiling, and watch you from the attic I will be arrested. The same thing here.
Unless we can take back the Net from the libertarians, constitutional lawyers and rapacious corporations currently recreating the worst excesses of US political and commercial culture online, we will end up with an Internet which serves the imperial ambitions of only one country instead of the legitimate aspirations of the whole world. Imperial ambitions? Anybody seen a king here in the US? I know we have a pope, Hi Kurt, but not a king or a queen.
This guy has, to use a term, penis envy. He hates the idea that we are faster, better, and having more fun implimenting our ideas on the internet. This... person, if you call this unthinking Euro Neo-nazi like creature that, wants things his way.
Well guess what, the 'net is big ocean. You can put up your little dikes to keep ideas out. Even if you set up your little lake of information for Europe someone will open a few gateway because you want the freedoms we have.

Now if that was true then all we would have to do is scan everything at 72 DPI. We wouldn't have to scan at higher resolutions for print.
But thats not true. The human eye picks up far more detail from a 9x11 cell then you ever realize. If you don't believe print something a Tektronics printer at a 300 DPI scan, then rescan and print it at 72 DPI.
"and that Microsoft be audited by a third-party to assure compliance - perhaps it will be TrustE, since Passport's privacy policy remains approved by TrustE."
I remember this big stink a few years ago about Microsoft having the majority stake when TrustE was founded.
Heck just look at the Privacy Statment at WebTV/MSNTV.
Mobilepro Corp., with its subsidiary, Neoreach, Inc., a developer of semiconductor chips for third generation (3G) wireless communication services, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the RF Microelectronics Lab (RFIC) at the Information and Communications University in South Korea to co-develop a new semiconductor chip.
Under the agreement, engineering teams from Neoreach and RFIC will devote joint research and design expertise, staffing, facilities resources, project management, and testing for the development of an RF CMOS, a radio frequency chipset.
Anyone else notice that in the last couple of days Microsoft's ad for Visual Studio.Net keeps coming up in the rotation when ever there is Linux story.
Wonder how much that cost them to buy those keywords? Could C. Taco be enjoying a quiet vacation on an island somewhere?
Will the signal strength be any good, especially in rural areas, with these disposable phones? I'd expect that with sub-standard components, they might not be able to perform as well. We'll see though.

"Because the network is intended for streaming, near-real-time traffic and does not have to use LAN contention methods, developers of such systems will not have to worry about packet collisions with home networks based on 802.11."
Am I misreading this? Could this be the begining of something bigger and better the current LAN and 802.11 standards?
The internet is a case of CB vs HAM vs Cell.

Yeah, but how much of that profit will be restated in 6 months?

If they really want to track people mandate a chip in their hands. That way they know exactly who is in the car and when.
