The lack of dimming (and appearance for visible lights) is an an noyance on CF's. But again, moving DST is too, and with the advent od AC may not even help things. If we were serious about saving power as a government florecent bulds would appear to be the quickest way to save energy.
What I do to "dim" my dining room lights (in the ceiling fan) is unscrew 1 or 2 of them (since they are cold to the touch), not a great solution, but workable.
Things that I don't approve of the are harmful to me are generally illegal for you to do.
When the economic incentive is their for the tech it will come. It is the governments job to create that incentive so that the market will figure it out.
Your use of high-wattage ineficient bulbs hurts me tangibly (brownouts, increased energy costs), and intagibly (global warming).
All that said, if you actually do use the dimming frequently on your dimmable bulbs and CFs in other places it's all the same. But if the incandesent weren't legal, you would have your small dimmable bulbs already.
The warming period is a lot more than 30 seconds (not a plus) but 30 seconds gets decent light output. I really think you should look at a full spectrum bulb though; It is much better quality than an incandesent. Now it is different and takes a day or two to get used to, but you will wonder why the color turns off in other peoples houses after you adjust.
It is great that you don't care about the wasted energy being traded for quicker turn on (and alleged better quality), but you probably don't care about the damage you do in other ways either. If people would persoanly make the effort we could easily reduce energy dependancy without regulation, but since it is not being done volentarly we need a kick start to get people going (with better tech and cheaper manufacturing, like what happened with toilets).
If I'm willing to kick puppies for better lighting, it doesn'tmean I should be allowed to.
I am suprised that incandesent bulbs are even legal to sell (I will probably get crap for this). The percentage of electricity saved for a gas house is huge. I do admit that in my bathroom the slower turn on and lower brightness/size ratio causes a mild annoyance, but even if I left them on all the time I would be saving overall in my house (I don't it just takes about 30 seconds to get decent brightness in the bathroom at night).
The only places I still use incandesent are the dimmed kitchen lights (am buying a new switch soon) and 2 3-way lamps that use current reduction on standard bulbs (but they are rarley used above low).
The floresent change truly seems much more a no-brainer than moving DST or selling crappy low-flush toilets (though the new ones are pretty good).
But baseball bats don't have straps and weigh a lot more than Wiimotes, it is not hard to not let go of something.
Also, I am very sceptical that anyone truly did this, and it's not just people looking for attention. Has anyone anylized how strong the strap is and how much force it would realy take to break it by pretending to pitch?
To get HDTV I paid $25.00 for some rabbit ears. I get perfect reception on all network stations now and have access to a weather station and an all music station that is actually videos all day.
Digital cable in my area sucked (never tried the HD) with terrible compression and frequent outings (esp of on demand). I now watch less TV and have the money saved to buy a season of TV every month (maybe every other). I also could buy quite a supernews account with the money saved if I needed more/quicker (illegal) access to cable TV shows.
Channels that were barly watchable before I got a TV with digital tuner are now crisper than my cable was, even when I pick a sub channel in 480i.
If you are further from an urban center (I am 5 miles from most stations) a rooftop antenna pointed at the nearest city can get you a lot of station for not too much money (or fuss) (you should be able to cover an urban area 30 miles away without re-aiming between stations).
Enjoyment helps hasten and improve the odds of recovery, but is also a very easy thing to cut out of the budget.
Toys and games are exactly the type of thing hospitals need to be donated, since otherwise they may end of with none (of course I don't recomend just giving them whatever, but the wish list should help).
My system was older than a year and not top of the line when I bought it (but was a very strong middle). It played Oblivion fine.
I also have >2 year old laptop that plays it poorly, but playable on lowest settings. The laptop had a GeForce Go card and needed a set of hacked drivers (to get the real drivers on and not Dells). When I read a guide for tuning Oblivion their was a setting that when turned on improved quality, allowed me to increase draw distance, and made it faster. The track pad became the limiter of my enjoyment (and vampyrism).
My Wii costs at most $10.00/month more than one purchased a year from now (more likely $5.00 or $0.00, also it cost 3 hours or so in line).
It will definitivly be worth it for me when all is said and done (with Rayman, Wii Sports, Zelda, Smash Bros, Chrystal Cronicals, and Virtual Console). I think that if you want a Wii you are stupid to wait a year personally. Of course if it dies just out of warrenty it will cost me $20.00/month extra to have it for a year, and that would be a little high.
The other two consoles it is probably worth waiting and seeing which gets what exclusives. But we already now that the Wii won't be getting any cutting edge 3rd party exclusives.
You could use something such as the acceleration of gravity to know which way is up. Pressing buttons 1 and 2 simulteniously to recalibrate which way is up if that becomes a problem.
Mice without sensor bars have existed in the past and work.
I bet games where accuracy is a requirement (no crosshare) will let you adjust like older light gun games.
When there is a crosshare it doesn't really matter (as you stated), also where is it supposed to aim from. I don't want it to sight along the "barrel" because I naturaly hold the Wii-Mote slightly up when sitting, and my TV is fairly low. Aiming along the length of the Wii-mote would be awkward at best.
Lining up with the sensor bar helped by game, but not because of the bar itself.
The car is centered on my TV, when I played not dead center I would move the Wiimote towards the screen adding a curve to towards the screen (left) to all my shots.
AIDS is a great example of an educational problem.
And if the laptop is truly as robust as advertised it could come pre-loaded with $100.00 worth of text books. Its primary use is as an education tool, and even without the mesh-network it can be that.
I will buy a blu-ray for my computer as soon as they are under $200.00 (with burning). HD-DVD is just not too much bigger. I wish everyone went with blu-ray so it would get bigger economies of scale quicker. I will not buy a PS3 though, but I may buy a PS2 this holiday season, there are a few exclusives I really want to play (also a Wii if they arn't sold out).
My little brother plays wall ball and they don't play with pegging or spread eagle. And if you "accidentally" hit someone YOU are out, not them. Dodgeball has been out for a few years too.

I agree.

I am willing to bet humans spend a lot more "time, money, and effort" feeing children than they did on this project though.
If we were to spend the same amount of resources feeding people as we did on this (and similar) projects things would be far worse.
That is so true.
<uch better than the vgcats that I keep seeing.

GC cables are out unfortunatly.
3rd party cables are out till dec. 12th (local Best Buy) and the local gamestop says mid December.
look here.
Not a simple thing to just pick up.
I havn't been to a single store in my area that has received a single one of them at all.
I saw closed auction for over $150.00 at one point.

I bet your wrong.
I don't know anybody in the general population that had set their iTunes to rip to MP3.
I just modded you all off topic.
You forgot the Xbox360 though.
It is a more obvious substitution for the $500-$600 PS3 than the $250 Wii.

I hope you don't need to shop for functional private parts in real life.
Don't be a fool.
Everyone knows that it is the vaccines that cause rapidly spreading Aspergers.
With a Republican govener?
Yeah it's really sad now.
